A neighborhood favorite! This place is always crowded, and that's a good thing! Weekdays or weekends this is a convenient one stop shop for bagels, breakfast sandwiches, muffins and coffee. There is a nice sized dining area that is clean, and it's easy to get in and out of. Service is fast, bagels are always fresh and the coffee selection is nice as well! I like to make this my first stop when I head out for work in the mornings, or to grab a bite on the weekend mornings. The business also seems pretty active in the community with lots of information about the high school teams that are local and there are quite a few high schoolers (I believe) working there as well. If I could give zero stars, I would. I'm not from here and my friend took me here for breakfast. I am thoroughly disgusted, as we sat down to eat at a dirty table-which every single table in the restaurant was dirty, we noticed there was dirt, grease, and shit everywhere. I looked at the wall across from where we were sitting, there was dried up crusty milk splattered everywhere, the jug of milk was left outside on the counter to spoil, and NOTHING was wiped down. With 6 people behind the counter and an empty restaurant, you'd think someone would at least wipe down the tables for customers to have a clean place to sit. The girl at the register that helped us was nasty to us. She never smiled, was extremely rude with every response, and looked like she had just rolled out of bed. She wore grey sweats, a grey sweatshirt and Ugg's. Who allows their employees to come into work like that?? Let alone serve paying customers with such a stale attitude. From the dirty disgusting windows, to the horrible customer service, to everything being filthy- this place doesn't deserve a single customer. When they say Big Apple Bagels they aren't kidding! Big Apple Bagels has the biggest Apple Bagels in town as far as I'm concerned. To be completely honest my foodie friends I've had trouble finding Apple Bagels in Cincinnati. I used to pick them up at the market when I lived over on the West Coast, and every once in awhile I'll stumble into them at the Eastgate Jungle Jim's in the markdown meat section (weird right?) but other than that I'm at a loss. They also have normal bagels, gluten free bagels, candy bagels for the young and young at heart, a wonderful craft beer selection and live music on weekends. My friend Tim told me they have a KILLER karaoke and happy hour between 4-7 but I've never been able to make it in time. Love their Bagel Apples and their Corn Beef Hash Pipe kids meal. Tech Decks were a big part of my little brother's childhood and I'm happy to see kids playing with their food again. The only thing I didn't like about Big Apple Bagels were the 30+ photos of Steve Jobs and Ashton Kutchner as Steve Jobs framed and covering most of the wall space. It was unsettling. read more

Oh gosh...where do I start? For one, I've been going here since I was a little girl. I'm now 34 years old. The place is FILTHY. Literally so dirty that in baffled. I made a phone order and the employee answered the phone with "can I help you?" I said thank you after and she hung up on me. I was greeted very rudely when I picked up my order. Didn't say hi, asked me what I ordered and handed it to me after looking confused as to the fact I even had a phone order. I asked the name of the manager and the girl's response was "which one?" If I knew "which one", I wouldn't ask for their name. Didn't tell me to have a good day or thank you after paying. This is only one visit I am discussing though. I have experienced TERRIBLY unfriendly service every time I have come in for the past few years. I looked at my bagel and it was falling apart. Salmon was halfway on the bagel, barely any cream cheese, and just tasted so bad quality. The service is still the biggest turn off though. I will drive the 30 minutes to Bruegger's from now on. Their bagels are very good, but the sandwiches have little variety, way overpriced, and take too long for what they are. The coffee options are nice, and if you sit there all day refilling your cup I'm sure they'd be worth the cost, but as a take-out they're more than I'd like to spend. I was excited to try a blended coffee drink for the first time today, I've heard they are good here. When I asked the gal behind the counter how they are made (dairy? Sweetener?) she seemed annoyed and uncertain and finally said, it's made with a latte mix, it's sweet. I said, is the mix made with dairy, and do you know how it's sweetened? Dirtiest eatery I've eaten at in recent memory. Dust everywhere. Vents on ceiling disgusting. Only person sitting, about an hour after opening on Labor Day, and every table full of crumbs, food, greasy smudges. Bakery case glass was so dirty that it was difficult to see product. 6 employees working - besides cook! Gabbing and eating! Waiting for huge influx of customers, I guess. I ordered a sausage/egg/cheese sandwich on a toasted plain bagel. The bagel was doughy/undercooked in middle, sausage was tasteless and bagel was barely warm, with not a single browned spot on the bagel! When I told employees they might want to check toaster settings - that my bagel had NO toasted spots on it at all and was barely even warm...I was told that next time I should ask for 'double toasted'. Okay, so I'm pretty sure the good people that run Big Apple Bagels are pulling some Harry Potter voodoo type malarkey in the kitchen because their bagels are as good as it gets! I've never been a huge fan of bagels in the past. I've always had a love connection with the bagel's fried and glazed cousin, the donut. Bagels are just too thick and dense and boring for my liking. I don't want to mention any names but Bruegger's Bagels is a prime example of this. Big Apple Bagels, however, makes their bagels true to a New York style recipe which results in a lighter airier bagel which results in my tummy being as happy as a lark. Their bagels and muffins are so ridiculously tasty and their cream cheese spreads are jamtastic too! The only drawback to Big Apple is they have one location in Anderson. But if I have to drive 20 minutes to get the best bagel in the city then so be it. read more

My favorite place to get bagels and muffins. I would literally go here every day if I could. Even the cold blended coffees are better than Starbucks -- and it's cheap, too! They have the widest variety of bagels and cream cheeses, and even have multiple muffins to choose from. I have been a huge fan of bagels since I was a little kid, and that was just the small frozen ones from the grocery store. So you can imagine my reaction to the giant delicious bagels that are Big Apple Bagels. Big Apple Bagels are rather large, but that fits nicely to my large appetite. You can get 'em in the standard varieties (poppy, sesame, everything) and some other not so standard (strawberry, blueberry, chocolate chip, jalapeno). And you can get pretty much anything on 'em too. Deli meats, cheeses, breakfast meats and eggs or cream cheese (lots of types here too). They also have a nice assortment of muffins that are large enough to match the large bagels. Chocolate chip, Chocolate cheesecake, and cherry coffeecake are just some of the types of muffins you can get. They also have a full coffee shop with assortment of coffee blends and premium espresso drinks. If you love bagels as much as I do, or even just like them, then you should definitely try Big Apple! read more

I was in Anderson and really wanted a bagel sandwich for lunch so of course I consulted Yelp and it lead me here. What a pleasant surprise. The location is quite visible from the road but it is easy to miss the driveway to enter. The staff was absolutely pleasant, the restaurant was clean and it looks like they have all kinds of coffee and pastries for the AM in addition to the breakfast bagel sandwiches. They offer lots of bagel and cream cheese options. I had the Turkey and Havarti on an everything bagel which came with the onion and chive cream cheese, baked chips and a drink for like $7. I visited Big Apple Bagels for the first time while meeting my mom, who works just down the street, for a quick lunch on her lunch break. Growing up on the east side, I have driven by Big Apple numerous times and had always been curious as to just how delicious or not delicious their bagels actually were. Alas! They were pretty dang good and I am sorry I didn't eat here more when I lived closer than I do now. To be completely honesty, I actually had a bagel sandwich and not just a traditional bagel itself. Unsure of what to order, I stuck with a BLT type of bagel sandwich and was pleasantly surprised with how good it was. I also enjoyed the small patio seating they had in front of the store while I relaxed and read a book while waiting for my mom to meet me. I want to start by saying that I have gone here for years. It's convenient for us which is why we've continued to support the establishment. What I don't understand is why they refuse to clean this place up. It's always filthy when I go in. Cream cheese smeared and dried on glass cases, garbage that lines the parking lot/entry, bathrooms are beyond gross and flies all over. Their prices are high for what you get. Got 3 Big Apple Clubs not too long ago and couldn't believe how little meat was on it, especially bacon. I am posting a pic of the ridiculously small amount of bacon on the sandwich. I heard great things..... Visited around 10am on a Saturday morning and it was very crowded. When it was our turn the lady at the cash registered said hello and asked what we wanted. As I was saying my order she turned her back to me so I stopped and looked at my husband. She turned and said "I'm listening" and so I concluded my order and so did my husband. It took entirely too long for our 2 bagels and 1 latte.... About 10 minutes. After receiving our order and waiting so long we were both eager to eat up. Was looking for a place to eat so I stopped back in at Big Apple bagels today. Unfortunately I was quite disappointed with the experience. I ordered a plain bagel and cream cheese and got the coffee again. The bagel was not good. The texture was to airy and chewy and the cream cheese was messy not like cream cheese should be. The last time I stopped through I had just gotten over being sick so maybe I was a little bit delirious. The coffee was OK at best. If you're looking for a cup of coffee this place would probably be OK but other than that I don't think I'll be returning as the bagels are just lacking and they don't taste the way I think they should. About the employees it's pretty much a bunch of kids and the girl that took my order had a little bit of a snippy attitude. She was a little huffy as she walked off to fix my bagel and didn't seem too happy about that. Don't think I'll be back as the place was dirty as well. read more

I am always looking for a good bagel in Cincinnati as I feel that it's slim pickins around here. Marx Hot Bagels have been the only bagels I've had in the Cincinnati area that have really impressed me, but I drove by this place on my way to Anderson recently and it caught my eye. Of course, I promptly read its Yelp reviews and they were all glowing. On my way back to my hood, I stopped in to grab a bagel. They were closing in a few minutes but the staff was nice and accommodated me. I went for the everything bagel with lite veggie cream cheese (less than $3). The bagel was fresh, even though it was the end of the day, and the lite veggie cream cheese didn't taste "lite" at all! Big Apple Bagels is the only place in Cincinnati I have thus far seen with the cream cheese set up like the delis in NYC. Not sure if there is a technical word or name for it, but the cream cheese is in a display case similar to an ice cream shop and there are huge, cream cheese filled containers inside. The cream cheese is "scooped" similarly to ice cream as well. Does this make a different in how the cream cheese tastes? I have no idea, but it reminds me of a place I love so I'll take it! read more

Love the apple cinnamon crisp and the assortment of cheese bagels. Spreads are also very good. These folks are dear to my heart for the way they "pay it forward." Stopped in for some coffee today... Really bummed with what I spent money on. Got the flavor of the month, Michigan Cherry (which Mejier sells in bags, and it's fabulous), and it was watered down, not very good at all. I also got a caramel icepresso drink which I'm not convinced had any coffee in, and it, too was extremely watered down. Took two drinks and tossed it. I live in Philly but I visit my bf a lot in Cincinnati and have yet to find a better bagel place. Everyone there is so nice, the bagels are fresh and the cream cheese flavors are so unique. The breakfast BLT is unbelievable. I've been there countless times and no matter who makes me my sandwich, it's consistently good. I even called ahead one morning and asked them to freeze some jalapeño cheddar cream cheese for me so that I could swing by and pick it up before I went to the airport and they did it.
