I had an outstanding experience with Alex and Big Apple Funeral Home. It was in the immediate aftermath of unexpectedly and suddenly losing my son, and so I was in great need of responsive, organized and kind vendors and business people. I live in Seattle, thus had to plan everything long distance: services, gravesite, renting a venue, hiring a caterer, finding a private dining room/restaurant, planning travel for eight persons, and much more. Looking back at these weeks, I feel most businesses I dealt with need to be taught lessons in customer service from Alex. What I valued most was feeling that he genuinely wanted to be of service; to be generous with his time and flexible (and a fast responder!) What I'm about to write will be harsh but true. The way this funeral home handled my friend Juan's end of life/attempted ashes transport, after he passed, being an immigrant with no next of kin in this country, was disgraceful. It took an entire year for his mother to get him back to his home country of Chile. AN ENTIRE YEAR WITHOUT BEING ABLE TO HAVE CLOSURE FOR HER SON, after they claimed they'd get his ashes back to Chile because she couldn't wait for them due to logistics of travel! She couldn't get her son to his final resting place for an entire year. Not only was her son's passing sudden and tragic but this mess of a funeral home made the situation 10 times worse, with their hemming and hawing and passing the buck. It was always someone else's fault but their own, that things weren't getting done.... the Chilean consulate (which after we contacted them directly, they were pretty responsive), the translator's taking 8 to 9 months to get the translation done, blah, blah, blah... Finally, she had to fly in and basically collect his ashes and take him home because these folks couldn't get their act together and deliver on what they claimed they'd do. They weren't even good at something so simple as staying in touch to keep Juan's loved ones abreast. It was almost as if they'd never lost someone, themselves. Today 7/29/23 was when his family was finally able to have his end of life celebration. Disgraceful. Utterly disgraceful. I see a lot of great reviews for this place but I will have to vehemently disagree. Dealing with this outfit was a nightmare. read more

My father passed tragically and unexpectedly this year and it was very difficult finding a responsive and respectful funeral home. Alex was extremely responsive, kind and respectful. He always answered my emails and calls and made sure that everything I requested was taken care of with care. It's hard to know what to look for when choosing a funeral home over the internet. When my father passed, my husband researched a few places based on location, price, legitimacy of website, etc., and gave me his top 4 choices. I called each place and was most impressed with Big Apple Funeral Home by far. Their responsiveness and professionalism were exactly what I needed to feel comfortable in my decision, and Alex was very caring in acknowledging how difficult a time it was personally. Due to COVID-19, we held a Zoom memorial and only used Big Apple for the cremation and death certificates, but I was very happy with how everything went. It took a bit of time to get the remains - but COVID is slowing a lot of things down these days, and I'm sure overwhelming all funeral homes. If you are looking for peace of mind and an appropriate price, Big Apple Funeral Home is a great choice. While I hope not to have to use them again for a very long time, I am incredibly happy with my decision to choose them. read more
