My mother died in 1999. We had limited funds and we were treated very unprofessionally. My mother's hair was combed straight back like a mans. This was upsetting enough. It was Moms request that she be covered in a blanket. Before she was taken to the cemetery I took the blanket and placed it over her top half. As I tried to open the bottom of the casket I was stopped by one of the parties who work there. I insisted on opening the bottom half in honor of my mother's request. He continued to dissuade me. I was insistent and he relented. When the bottom of the casket was opened I was horrified to see my Mother's stockings pulled only half way to her calf. I was completely overwhelmed and distraught by the treatment Marine Park Funeral Home displayed toward my Mother. I believe it was because our funds were limited. The facilities at Marine Park were nice, certainly not what I expected in a funeral home of this size. It was a homely, clean, and spacious despite it's medium sized exterior. There is a large lounge in the front for all to sit and relax, and various rooms for wakes alphabetically segmented (Rooms A, B, C, etc). Bathrooms are located on the main level and bottom floor, both are spotless. The staff was very polite and courteous, eager to direct parking out in the lot, helping folks get around the place, and were helpful in answering questions about their business. For every wake or funeral gathering I've attended, it has always been a somber, if not morbid experience especially witnessing their loved ones dealing with their lose. Having come here to pay my final respects to a former colleague, I never expected the scene to look like a wedding reception. People were loud, boisterous, smiling, laughing, and almost convivial. I had apparently showed up at an Irish wake, where I'm told little crying goes on and the people get together to share their joy / stories instead. They certainly did just that. I don't know any of the costs here or much less the process. I just know they did a tasteful job of presenting the deceased and a stellar job in organizing the family's arrangements. When I pass, I'll be sure to have a party .... maybe even here at the Marine Park Funeral Home. read more

After having my father's funeral service here 15 years ago, we recently had my mother's wake at MPFH. This was her wish, so I relied on her excellent judgment, and she, again, was right. Kourtney and the entire staff performed in a professional manner with respect and sympathy. The interior was welcoming, cozy and clean. It was a lovely service. The floral arrangements were beautiful. The artistry, for both of my parents, was simple and understated. Both would have been very pleased. Never thought I would write a review for a funeral home, but alas here I am. I have attended many funerals here, but never actually used them until now. I recently lost my father & if it weren't for the wonderful people at Marine Park Funeral Home, I don't know how we would have gotten through it all. They did everything for us from beginning to end. They walked us through everything. I am so grateful to them for all they have done It is a very clean, comfortable & large enough to accompany everyone. Everything was handle with class & style. Don't know what the going rate for funerals are these days, but my father's insurance covered everything. MPFH handled all of the paperwork. We didn't have to worry about a thing. By the end of my uncle's funeral, I wanted to punch these people in the face. They clearly care about one thing: getting paid. They were in a rush; they were disrespectful; they showed a remarkable lack of concern for my family. I don't know how the planning aspect of this funeral went, because my cousins handled that part, but as an attendee of the funeral, I would say with complete confidence that I would NEVER IN A MILLION YEARS hire this funeral home to do a funeral again. After the funeral, my sister and I pinkie-swore that neither of our funerals would ever involve a funeral home, period. This was just the last straw. We have had bad experiences with funeral homes before (and a couple of good experiences as well), but we were so appalled by the attitude on the part of the funeral home employees that we decided right then that we didn't even want our funerals done by a funeral home. It's just too risky. The chance of anyone treating our loved ones, during our funerals, the way we and the rest of our family were treated by Marine Park Funeral Home this week, is just too great a risk. During a funeral, the family wants to be able to focus on one another, on supporting one another, on grieving their dead loved one. They should NEVER be put in a position where their focus is on wondering why the hell the funeral home guys are making life so difficult. I just started trying to write out all the various indignities, but I just don't have it in me to get into the details right now. I am still grieving, and reliving the frustrations of these funeral home fools will just make me too upset. Also, I honestly don't even want these people to learn from their mistakes, by reading this review and making adjustments in the future. I would rather just condemn them utterly and hope that anyone who reads this review will choose a different funeral home. Because the underlying problem is the important thing. In other words -- it's not that they made the procession from the church to the cemetery such a nightmare in so many ways, or that they sort of ruined the last song of the funeral, or that even their attire was disrespectful around the edges, or how rushed and perfunctory the burial was, how bad their timing was, etc. -- the problem is that their basic priority was to get the funeral done as quickly as humanly possible, get paid, and get out. And that priority was patently obvious in the ways they neglected to take even the most basic actions to make the funeral proceed smoothly. Really, even to call the trip from the church to the cemetery a "funeral procession" is giving the funeral home way too much credit. They just basically took off with the body and everybody had to scramble to follow them or catch up later. When they left, people were still inside the church! And still had to scrape snow and ice off the cars. They provided No flags for the cars, no funeral home person picking up the rear, no organization of any kind -- and they were rushing to get to a cemetery that was, I kid you not, closed for lunch (so why were we in such a damn rush???) ARGH I said I didn't want to relive these details, so I will stop here. In a nutshell: I try never to use profanity in my yelp reviews, but in this case, I am sorely tempted. F--- these people. They clearly didn't give a sh-- about my family, they just wanted their money. AVOID!!! read more

Surprised to read some negative ratings, and certainly not questioning the validity of those who had a bad experience, but often good expereinces are not documented, so compelled to send acolades here. We buried our Dad thru MPFH eight years ago, and Mom this month. We were treated with solemn dignity and compassion, and all was taken care of by our manager (Kourteney). Even when an issue arose (the parish priest failed to arrive for final prayers), the night shift manager sought out a prayer book for us to use and it worked out fine. This manager was actually upset, which I found impressive. Most impressive though was the final day, morning of Mass & burial. We were blessed with a wonderful funeral director (Gerard L.) who was simply a professional. As a retired NYPD Sgt., I know that though an incident or loss is tragic to a family, the repetition for those working can make it seem mundane, and how important it is to make sure any family or victim feels the care that they deserve. Gerard did just that. Wonderful, calm words at final prayers at the parlor, the church and the cemetary; he stopped as requested at two homes and personally lay flowers on their stoops. The drive to church and cemetary, not an easy traverse as it was mostly streets with traffic lights and turns, was remarkable, the 20 cars in line never lost the line, and when a red light interrupted, they stopped to the side and insured those cars caught up and we remained a family entroute, stress free. I used MPFH this week after the sudden death of my husband. Michael is an angel, did not pressure us whatsoever and showed real empathy and compassion. The intern he was teaching is learning well too. We had a beautiful service from beginning to end, could not asked for a better limo driver than Jerry, Richie Fischetti (who drove the hearse) turned out to be an old friend of mine, crazy coincidence that, and drove past a place that was very special to my husband and me. The entire staff was beyond terrific, I would recommend this place and would give ten stars if I could. May God bless you all Marine Park staff. When my wife recently passed away I used Marine Park Funeral Home, the director who worked with me was Courtney; she was polite, knowledgeable, helpful and not pushy. All my questions were respectfully and fully answered despite me being a mess. When I wanted a poem for the mass card which would remind people to be happy when they were remembering my wife and not sad, she was able to pick one out for me that said what I wanted to say but could not find the words for. The place itself was clean, comfortable and pleasant for what it was designed for. There was plenty of parking and we were not rushed. I found Marine Park Funeral home to be impeccably clean, stylish, peaceful & very spacious. The staff were all courteous, sympathetic, and helpful in every way. They took care of all the paperwork, scheduling and making sure our preferences were honored. The facilities had ample parking, and room in the large lounge for family & friends to relax, talk and console each other. The long ride to the cemetery @ calverton went very smooth. The driver was very pleasant & friendly. The only complaint I had was the limo was smaller by 1 seat than they advertised. I am at a loss for words as to how to describe how badly we were treated here. We were originally due to meet with Cortney (?) but had to meet with Michael because she was not there. We were from out of state and making the original arrangements by phone. This place was recommended by a family member. Had we read any of the reviews we would NOT have used this place. I would suggest you go elsewhere as the directors are NOT professional in their behavior. I don't care how bad a day the directors are having, they should be above personal feelings. When Michael starting yelling at my sister, who had just lost her husband, and telling us he will show respect when it is given to him, I lost it. My sister was at her end, after having dealt with her husband's declining health for 2 years and then his sudden death. You would expect a little consideration. I expected better behavior and professionalism from them. When my sister started questioning the bill, Michael got snippy. I called him on it and he stated he would use courtesy and respect when it was shown to him. My sister lost it then, she started crying and yelling that she had just lost her husband. and Michael said "We have all lost someone!" "I lost my parents to a drunk driver." Unfortunately, my family has known quite a few funerals in the past 15 years, several of them in Brooklyn. This funeral home displayed horrible insensitivity during the church service, leaving in the middle of a sung tribute by a family member. They did not make even the most minimal effort to ensure all family members made it from the church service into the funeral procession drive to the cemetery, that the entire procession made it to the cemetery, nor did they pass out directions or even the name of the cemetery. The woman at the funeral home gave misinformation, saying that the burial would not be until 1, when in fact it was at 12:20. There is more I could say, such as their terrible website and lack of information, but honestly, I don't have the energy to wade through all the emotions it would evoke to relive the shoddy way they handled this funeral. I do not like funeral homes in general, because they seem sleazy - interested in a slick performance and getting their money rather than sensitive to the grief of families. But this one was far more incompetent and insensitive than usual, and I urge people who want to use funeral homes to go somewhere else. read more
