Everyone - from the valet to the owners - stepped up to make my father's recent wake and funeral the beautiful, organized, and solace-filled celebration it was meant to be. The upstairs room is decorated beautifully and tastefully. And every detail was tended to with care. 10+ stars. Seamless and high quality, in every way. I received many words of praise from our family and friends who have attended wakes held with the competition in Bay Ridge. Before the wake, they questioned my choice. After the wake, they commended me for making the right decision. They wondered if I had paid double the price when, in fact, Clavin was comparable or slightly lower for better service. The two words that come to mind as I reflect on my dealings with Stephen and Matthew Clavin over the last few months, as I prepared for my Dad's death, are 1. PATIENCE, and 2. INTEGRITY. From minute one, I felt at ease. I knew that I was dealing with honest people. During the proceedings last week, I was shown great understanding and patience. There were 20+ revisions to our father's obituary, plus some last minute requests by family members. Stephen simply kept updating the website and delivering immediately, with great patience and kindness. Throughout the whole week, Stephen and Matthew were available, responsive, and above all, calm with me, my mother, and my sister. Starting with the 3AM phone call to retrieve my father's body from home hospice, to the post-funeral questions I had about social security, I felt great respect and compassion. The Clavins clearly operate with high integrity in all dealings. Finally, I'd like to say that Stephen's professional style is especially soothing. As he directed my guests from the burial site to the repast launch, addressing mourners, and as he dealt with our priest, I took a deep breath and just smiled. My father's passing was, understandably, a very difficult process for me and my family. Clavin did a wonderful job of helping me through that process. Matthew and Steven Clavin handled us with tremendous kindness, and they provided a level individualized care that I didn't find with other funeral homes. Their practiced patience, attention to detail, and expert communication skills helped me to memorialize my father in a way that suited his style and individuality. The funeral home itself is bright, open, and airy. The visitation rooms are well kept, with styles that can be adapted to your personal tastes. For my father we chose to use the white visitation rooms upstairs, which had a beautiful morning light. There were plenty of places to set up photographs, keepsakes, memorial cards, guestbooks, et cetera. I was able to choose music appropriate to my father and his tastes, and was provided with a television to display slideshow of photos of his life. The elevator was helpful for my older, and less-mobile attendees. And the valet parking relieved a great source of stress for my out of town guests. Clavin hosted a wonderful celebration of my father's life. I was listened to, well-advised, and very much cared for. read more

My father passed away and I thought that Clavin was beautiful on the outside so I decided to have my father's wake here. The family is very kind and respectful. I always felt comfortable with them around. I felt an aura of respect and sympathy although they did not know my family.They are professional and detailed. I never had to ask for anything. read more

I didn't take part in planning the funeral so I can't tell you about that. But, from my point of view, the directors are very understanding, sensitive, organized, and very helpful. Some examples. - I needed a music stand, and it took him 2 hours, but he found me a music stand. - We requested family names to be placed in a specific part of the casket - they delivered. - They are always available - if the T.V. didn't work, they were there to fix the problem. - They made sure that if we needed anything, the would always do their best to make it happen the way we requested. If it isn't to our liking, they will do it again until we are satisfied. The rooms are home-like, comfortable and can adjust the temperature as needed. Our loved one in the casket, was groomed well and we were so happy that his appearance was very clean. The flowers are well organized and well made. Through them, you can also arrange limos and cars to transport the immediate family to the sites. The staff was present at every stage, from the planning, to the actual days that we were there, to the church mass and through the gravesite. Overall, the 3 day experience was very smooth and we didn't have to worry about anything. You can focus on your loved ones. Thank you Calvin! read more

I wanted to thank Stephen Clavin, and everyone else at Clavin who worked with us when my Mom passed away in September, for the highest quality of service that they provided. All the arrangements have been handled with great respect, sensitivity, and care. Every detail was impeccable. At Stephen's suggestion we brought many personal items and photographs which made this experience very memorable for everyone. The following day Stephen brought white roses to the chapel prior to cremation, and gave one rose to each of us, so that we could give this one final gift to my Mom. the funeral representative or who ever answers the phone is so disgustingly rude!! during such a hard time, you expect people to have more compassion because of the situation and he has no respect. its sad that they'd have such a rude person picking up the phone.
