Its tough reviewing a place that has such a big selection to choose from. I liked their regular cheese pizza but I thought it lacked a bit on taste and could probably use a bit more sauce. I really enjoyed the Vodka sauce pizza which was interesting but good. It is a good choice for the area but after having some of the best Pizza on Staten Island its hard to settle. I had an event at Two Ton Brewing and the organizers brought over some Big Apple pizza on the side. (Turns out it was for dinner - they way over-ordered 6 pies for just 11 people.) So first of all, this is classic Jersey pie. Large, super-thin slices, flavors a bit muted but all blend well together. Plain slices taste as stereotypically NJ as you can imagine - perfect! On to pepperoni slices - well, this is one of those places that stacks the pepperoni 2 or 3 slices at a time! They use the thin-cut, probably from a package type, but they give you SO MUCH of it that if there's any square millimeter of your slice without pepperoni, you have it. It's there, between the oil and the cheese and crust etc. There was a third type of pie, margherita, where the ingredients are more whole instead of spread - large slices of mozzarella (or better) cheese atop marinara sauce and basil, but the marinara sauce was clustered so that you went cheese-sauce-cheese all over the slice. Wonderful slices, btw. All of them were. So between the taste and the pizza being on time and a good price - full 5 stars! Go get your Jersey pie there and fuhgeddaboudit. read more

UPDATE: i decided to give them another try as they are the only one who does a proper Grandmas Pie in the area. I have been pleasantly surprised and have order from them about 10 times since. I ordered the Freddy's Alfredo Pan Pie as it's one of my favorites. 40 mins later, the pizza gets delivered and the pizza was destroyed...Alfredo sauce was everywhere in the box...I called up and spoke with the manager who said i will have another pizza at my door in 15...i explained to him that I hate to complain but I can't eat this...I heard silence on the phone...literally, no background noise or anything...I said hello?? And he unmuted me and said like I said I'm sorry but I will have another pizza at your door and just give that pizza to the delivery guy so I can see if it was his fault or not...ummm, ok...I have never been asked to give a product that was wrong back and thought this was very unprofessional but hey, what the heck am I going to do with it anyway? So fast forward another 45 minutes, the delivery guy brought me a new pizza and took the old one. I open the pizza up and it isn't a pan pie but regular crust...really?!?! So I call up again and spoke with the manager and he told me that I must have ordered it wrong bc the ticket says regular crust. I told him, on the menu, the Freddy's Alfredo is under the pan pie so why would I do that? I have a strong feeling Big Apple Pizza and I were a one night stand...but, you know...a good one. So It's a Friday afternoon and I need to get my daughter from Northern, NJ to Towson Maryland in 3 1/2 hours...but my daughter is starving and needs to eat. Not hungry...she's HANGRY. She punches "pizza" into Yelp and she yells "get off at this exit-Kenilworth!" Now, the last time I had pizza in Kenilworth was probably 25 years ago...and it was awful...so I walked into Big Apple with some skepticism. We had no time to waste so my daughter ordered penne vodka with chicken and I ordered a plain and a sausage slice all to go...and told them I was in a hurry. The pretty girl behind the counter smiled and says 'I'll take care of you'. And she did, she hurried the cooks to get the pasta out quick and we were on our way. I know none of you have seen my daughter eat when she's hungry so picture Bluto in Animal House stuffing his face. I mean she wolfed down her meal like she hadn't eaten in days and I swear she was licking the side of the container it was so good. The pizza was a good solid Jersey effort. Crust was a little thicker than I prefer, but it was delicious. Unfortunately, that's where the love fest probably ends because I'm never in Kenilworth anymore so unless I'm on another trip down the Parkway I don't know if I'll enjoy another Big Apple slice...but at least I KNOW if I happen to venture into that little town again I can get a great slice of pizza. read more

Really can't believe how these guys treat their regular customers! We normally order from here at least 4 times a week. We've spent over $15,000.00 there last year alone. We regularly have issues with the order regarding mistakes and never complain. This one single time, we order a chicken wrap and the wrap arrives without chicken. We call up to let them know and they said it was our fault. We asked for a refund and they said it was childish for us to request this and say we'd never order again. Really????? So now.... Today we ordered from here and I ordered the tortellini Alfredo. About half way through I found a piece of plastic wrap in my food wrapped up in between the pasta.Needless to say I was grossed out. I called and spoke to the manager and he pretty much told me I could either get my food remade for me or nothing. He could not give me a refund because they had already charged my credit card. When I asked to speak to the owner I got the run around that he's not around. Since I have moved this has been our go to place for a quick bite. I will never order from here again. They have other specialty pies as well, including sicilian and pan-pizza type pies. Having lived in Brooklyn, Staten Island, and Manhattan, I have to say that NJ is more hit or miss for good pizza than I am used to. I had a nice visit the other night at Big Apple Pizza. The veggie slice is quite tasty and the buffalo chicken slice is heavenly (just don't think about the calories tho). Very small seating area, though pretty clean and tidy. No high chairs available. My family and I have been very loyal Big Apple Pizza supporters at the Kenilworth location and it's been our "go to" place for several years. Over the years we really enjoyed their pizza and various pasta dishes they offered. Pick up and/or delivery had always been on time and we never had a problem....until now. Strike One: We called to order a large pizza with broccoli and black olives and an Italiano salad. The coupon they offered was a free 2 liter soda when you ordered a large pizza with 1 topping. We ordered a large pizza with 2 toppings. Wouldn't you think we should get the free soda? We're spending more money. They said no, its only for 1 topping. So we didn't buy the soda. Strike Two: I picked up the pizza and when we got home realized they gave us a raw onion and broccoli pizza. Our name and phone number was on a receipt taped to the box and they clearly made the wrong pizza for us. Strike Three: We called to correct the situation. They apologized for the mix-up and had a new large broccoli and black olive pizza delivered to us. Can you believe they asked for the onion and broccoli pizza back? Seriously! They told us to swap out the wrong pizza with the delivery person. Let's think about this. What were they planning on doing with that pizza? Reselling it? Putting it for sale by the slice in their glass display case? Wait for a call from someone who wanted an onion and broccoli pizza order and give it to them? I don't want to know the answer. We hadn't touched the pizza other than to open the box. Basic customer service would've told us to keep the pizza. We knew our neighbor loved onions and we were going to call him to ask if he wanted this pizza. Who knows? He could've become a customer of Big Apple Pizza. Unfortunately, we'll never know. Is there a pizza scam going on that I don't know about. Their records will show we were regular customers for several years and never returned anything. Where do I begin? First, let me start by saying I'm a long time customer that has continued to order from here, despite some previous issues I've always given the restaurant the benefit of the doubt. However enough is enough. If I was able to give them a negative amount of stars I would. Now, let me start by saying, the customer service is absolutely terrible. You will always be wrong. The helpfulness and "customer first" mentality ends at the girl who answers the phone. Who I feel terrible for, because their management gives them a terrible name. These girls always try to do their best, but when an issues arises that they are unable to settle you're placed on hold and transferred to Fred, or some other equally as rude individual who I can only assume is the manager or owner, and can't seem to be bothered by their own mistakes. There is always some excuse as to why it's not Big Apple's fault. At the end of the conversation expect nothing but added frustration and no resolution. Secondly, they nickel and dime you. I have no problem paying a bit extra for items, but they seem to take pleasure in adding extra to your bill for every little item. Items that come standard at other establishments expect to be charged for. So be warned by extra prices that will be on your bill. That side of dipping sauce that normally comes standard. Wrong. Up-charge. Oh and if you forget to mention you want some sauce to dip your calzone in don't expect it to be in the box. Cause Fred needs his money for that tiny container of sauce on the side. So revises your plans and eat that calzone dry. I mean who eats a calzone dry!! Might as well eat the box the crappy calzone comes in at that point! Finally, when they do mess up your order and actually decide to do something for their customers do not under any circumstances expect to get you're new food without first turning in your old food to the delivery driver. Not sure what they expect you to do with the food you don't want. Resell it? Open your own pizza place? Who knows but you won't get what you actually ordered without making a trade with the driver. And naming your first born child after the owners of Big Apple. Maybe they resell the food you returned guess we'll never know. There are plenty of other pizzerias in the area, and although Big Apple has been my go to for quite some time. Enough is enough, and I will be ordering elsewhere from now on. You're loss Big Apple, have Fred take some classes on customer service. And stop nickel and dimming your long time customers. read more

So my wife wanted to order from here as she heard they were serving heart-shaped pizzas on Valentine's Day. So we ordered one and a two subs. Pizza - You know when you get a pizza delivery and then you open the box and you see the nice gooey steamy mozzarella and it's so hot that you have to let it sit for a minute before you can cut into it and you can't wait with anticipation for it to cool and bite into its awesomeness -well that's not what I got with the pizza. Instead I got the you know towards the end of a kids birthday party and there's leftover pizza in the boxes and all the cheese is just sealed together into a plastic like tarp - yep it was that bad - and I live right down the block from the place - guessing it was pre-made for the valentine's day rush? Subs- Well I was thinking to myself At least we Got two subs as back up. Specifically we order two salami and cheese subs. I open the subs and I don't see any salami. So I picked through the lettuce and tomatoes And didn't see anything until I got to the the inch strip Along the back of the sub where the one piece of salami was folded over. I kid you not about 4/5ths of the sub Had no meat all. Check out the pictures. What did that old lady say from Wendy's say "Where's the beef" That's what I was thinking to myself when I saw the sandwich. Anyway so one of us tries to stomach through the vegetarian delight until we bight into a hard Object in the sandwich. We pull it out only to find a large Lettuce core In the sub. Check out the pic. First of all it's a choking hazard secondly there is zero reason for there to be a lettuce core in a sandwich-possibly maybe in a salad I guess but as a dressing to a sub sandwich this appears to be total carelessness by the staff. Needless to say we didn't finish the pizza or come close to eating much of the subs. OK so I'm a little annoyed but having been in the food business myself I realize sometimes people have bad days. So I called not looking for a Free meal Or anything but just to tell him that the person who made the subs made a mistake and he Did not put much of any salami in and I was going to tell them about the lettuce core in the sub. So after I tell them politely about the The lack of meat the lady puts me on hold and And then says because I got a salami and cheese instead of a salami ham and cheese sandwich that is the reason why there was so little meat. I was stunned after I heard that- why do I get less meat when I Order a salami and cheese? I certainly didn't pay less . And after that I didn't yell or holler or respond just said oh OK yes How could anyone Argue with that logic. It just seemed rather than them admitting there was a mistake that they were standing firm by their veggie delight sandwich that I received and that is Was good by their standards and it was my fault For not adding ham to the sandwich.
