Wow First time here, place is seemed like it would be great. Monica was the cashier girl and she was so sweet! But I waited for 10 min for 1 slice after they told me 1 min but that's not why I'm writing this. The guy puting the orders together grabbed my pizza with his bare hands and put it in the oven, after I watched him deal with 100 other items for other ppl, I politely asked for another slice && he had the audacity to justify his actions by telling me "the oven kills the germs" that shows me that he must do that often and he feels better by telling himself that the "oven kills the germs" I literally came in just for that. I don't like he tried to tell me that like it was ok. I'm so disappointed because I'm a nurse (I was in scrubs) u can't tell me 30seconds in an oven is going to kill all the germs. A longtime staple in the Westfield area, a mom and pop restaurant that has a comfortable feel and where the staff cares about the food and people they serve. Casual spot with a modest area to dine in, this is mostly a take out or delivery type of pizzeria. The Pizza is consistently good, a nice thicker sauce on the pizzas full of flavor. The dough is fresh and has a good chew. Quality cheese as expected. Dinners are a nice portion and the sauces are well made. They may be a tad pricey on their items but not horrible and (I feel) worth the money. read more

I was in the area for a client visit, and stopped by here for a couple of slices as it was lunch time. Buona serves above par pizza. The positives and there are a lot of them. First off, they are in a strip mall with ample parking. Upon entry, there are multiple specialty slices out on display, including chicken bacon ranch, meat lovers, grandma's and many more. If you walk through the display cases, there are multiple 2 and 4 person tables in the back. I ordered 2 pepperoni slices to enjoy and the helpful person working the counter asked if it was for here or to go, I mentioned for here and he directed me to the seating area in the back and said someone will bring my food to me table, which was a nice perk. I grabbed a 20-ounce diet coke from their soda fridge and went back to the seating area. Within 2 minutes, I had two slices of pepperoni pizza in front of me. There was a seasoning set on the table, and I first took a bite and decided to add garlic powder and crushed red pepper flakes as it needed a little flavor boost. The slices never limp and always had a good chew to it. The crust was a little too crunchy for my liking, which is why this is a 4 instead of a 5-star rating. The other minor downer was the pizza was a little greasy. I did have to blot it with a few napkins. The entire bill was 10.50, and I will be back next time I am in town. Good job guys. read more

I've been eating at Buona for 22 years now (I'm 32 yo) and they have been consistently the ABSOLUTE BEST pizza in the area for at least that long. Once a week since I was 10, it's tradition. I've had all the other pizza spots in Westfield, Cranford, Scotch Plains, Fanwood, and none of them are as good. Don't get me wrong, there's a few other places in Westfield that have quality pizza as well. There's actually a couple places I'll go to because I like their specialty pies. If you really want a traditional plain pizza that'll make you salivate on sight alone though, look no further. I've been dieting recently and for "cheat meal" my plan of action was to eat an entire pizza, it did not disappoint. It was like magic, magic I tell you! Anything below 4 star rating on here are either one of two options: 1: They are a Karen 2: They are a competitor using a fake profile P.S. Don't let the crusts not being eaten in my photos fool you. So first time there I had a half plain half pepperoni and the pizza was pretty standard, not anything that popped, but it wasn't bad by any means. Second visit I had had high expectations for salad pizza... but at the same time Im súper picky so I tried my best to also temper expectations as well.... Well let me say this salad pizza is prob top 5 of pizzas I've ever eaten and I've had some good pizzas growing up in jersey all my life and traveling all over the states as well. The pizza here is good and fairly priced, but you will not come away raving about it. The interior is basic. What's with the plates at this place??. Every time we go there this one server always gives us a single paper plate for the salad. When we first requested a regular plate we were told "No, we're running low on plates". So no plates for us, then who? We shouldn't have put up with it all this time. It is just that one server at the place. Other times when she wasn't there we would be given a regular plate. So since plates have a low inventory as frequent paying customers we are not entitled to eat our salad on a regular plate versus a soggy paper plate!, This is truly unbelievable as this past visit she gave us the paper plates again. A soggy mess resorting to eat out of the salad bowl. But wait there were other patrons who did get a real plate, Does she charge extra for the real plates? wow what is with the discrimination and what is her problem?? My son calls to place an order for pick up and when he requested a particular wrap the lady replied, "we do not have it, call back later." And she hung up. We have gone to Buona Pizza many times before but never had an experience like today. We ordered 2 grandma slices and when we got home they were burnt and inedible. Growing up in Queens and Brooklyn, you get used to a particular format of pizza joint. You go in, there's generally a glass case of some sort showing you different pies, you pick a slice and you're off to the races. In New Jersey however, you have places like this but other places that are more like a Domino's. Whenever I find a more "old skool" pizza place, I always make it a point to try their slice. Buona pizza is located in a strip mall that includes other stores like a Shop Rite liquor market, Harmonn's and a sushi restaurant. It's not a bad place to get some shopping and snacking done, so it has that going for it. When you enter you're greeted with the aforementioned pies and a counter. To get to the seating area you have to go through an old swinging door that comes up to about your waist. Odd, but it does separate one part from the other. I had a regular cheese slice and I thought it was good. It wasn't anything mind blowing, but for a quick bite it would do. The staff was okay and my slice came out fast. I do intend to go back to try some of their other slices one day. read more

I live in Plainfield, but I grew up in Brooklyn, NY. So naturally I think all pizza in my area is garbage. And by and large it is garbage. We're talking swill pizza that would make a pizza lover turn to eating frozen pizza, Domino's fake pizza or just going without until you get to work Monday - Friday in the City, where you can hop a quick train ride down to Union Square to get a slice at Joe's Pizza. Which is my gold standard by the slice pizza. That said when I say pizza in my area, I usually mean Plainfield, Fanwood, Scotch Plains, Watchung, North Plainfield. Pizza by and large in these towns are pathetic. If I kicked out the geography, to Westfield, still, I would rather chew on a sweaty sport sock than eat NJ pizza. As most suburban pizza falls short of traditional NYC by the slice pizza that has some semblance to the original forefather's of pizza. That is to say NYC pizza used to all taste like Grimaldi's, Totonno's, Patsy's Lombardi's, Arturo's, John's, Joe's and the list goes on. Then we have Buona Pizza who keeps it real. An honest to goodness real slice of NY pizza in NJ that is better than 85%-90% of all the pizzerias in NYC . I know. I'm rambling. And not really talking about Buona Pizza. That's because hands down it's the best pizza within 5 miles of where I live and much of NYC. If that isn't an endorsement than I don't know what it is. The sauce is tomatoey, a little sweet with a nice touch of acid and the cheese looks as if its a nice combination of mozzerallas rather than all skim milk mozzarella which makes the cheese tastes like cardboard. If you live close by this is the place to go for pizza. read more
