It's a really small place but it's cute! There were 10 of us who were in desperate need of some soul food so we decided to give this place a try! They were very nice but they were out of several items. They were out of greens lobster tails, and the seafood rice. I was a little disappointed because I really wanted the fried lobster tail and the greens. I ordered the catfish and it was not that good. Hence the four stars. They fried the fish very hard to the point where it was dry. Also I don't like only cornmeal for a breading. I think it needed a little flour in there. But even if it was just the corn meal. It was fried too hard and it dried out the fish. The shrimp were very good and the mac & cheese was on point. They do not serve alcohol so it's BYOB. We ran down the street to the CVS and got some beer and coolers. Parking might be a problem, so be prepared to park in the alley. Overall, we all enjoyed ourselves and everyone else enjoyed their meals. I just did not care for my catfish. My brother loved the pot roast and my other Girlfriend really enjoyed the cabbage and the string beans.

The food was really tasty! Got the catfish, green beans and Mac and cheese ( a little too cheesy for me). But I had to give three stars due to wait time and customer service. when you place an order at 1:00pm and told it will be ready in 45 mins and you are waiting an additional 65 mins after your time that's insane. So two hours for 4 entrees. Cannot give a quote on when the food will be ready. The young lady working the front was sweet but I cannot return based on that alone. If you do plan on attending be prepared for the long wait.

Big Bacon's Soul Food was an absolute 10/10 experience from start to finish. The service was beyond exceptional -- attentive, welcoming, and genuinely warm. You can tell they care about their customers. The food? Incredible. Every bite was seasoned perfectly and made with real soul. You can taste the love in it. And the dessert... mind-blowing doesn't even begin to cover it. It was hands down one of the best desserts I've ever had. I have never felt this sure about a restaurant recommendation in my life -- Big Bacon's is the real deal. I will absolutely be back.

As a fellow former Chicagoan, I came in hoping for the flavors I grew up with. Unfortunately, Big Bacons missed the mark for me. They do get a point for cooking to order, which I appreciate. I ordered the fried chicken wings with double mac and cheese as my sides. But let's talk about those wings... Every Chicagoan knows fried chicken wings = whole wings. What I got were party wings, and while I'll own that I should've asked to confirm, I did check Yelp photos beforehand and saw at least one showing whole wings. That wasn't the worst part, though. The wings looked like they were those pre-breaded and pre-frozen, and the breading was way too heavy. It was also either the heavy breading or they were jumbo-sized. Either way, I didn't enjoy them, I couldn't even eat them. Now for the bright spot: the mac and cheese was creamy, cheesy, and comforting, this side dish actually reminded me of home. That's where Big Bacons earns its second star. If I return, it'll be for the mac and cheese. But if you're looking for true Chicago-style wings, this might not be the spot.

Food was great... I like my mac n cheese a lil loose goosy... Yams whr on point... Instead of mac & cheese next time, I'll probably just try the cornbread ... 25 bucks a plate...wud of liked more food... maybe I'm being greedy? 7$- banana pudding...wud of liked more...I think it was tooo small... Server was nice but brought the digital (pay thing) a lil early... just started eating.... Didn't even finish our food yet....that was a first?? Lol ...no biggie.... Server was very young...was very nice...just needs a lil more experience.... :) Overall....2 pple=$77....$23$-tip...wud of liked a "thnx u" but by 5pm place was PACKED n she was busy...so I wasn't trippin... :) Wud luv to come bck but was pretty expensive...... Probly be back! Need to support our PEEPS

We waited one hour and fifteen minutes for our meal. Inconsistent pricing: The Seafood Rice was listed as $14.99 on the menu, but the digital payment machine showed a price of $15.99. Similarly, the whole wings were listed as $24.99, which I asked although it's unclear I received 6 party wings, I would not have ordered party wings at that price Lack of staff knowledge: While friendly, the server wasn't adequately familiar with the menu, potentially leading to the pricing inconsistencies and impacting overall experience.

I think this place was good. I loveddd the cabbage it was so good and flavorful! The sweet potatoes weren't my favorite but my cousin enjoyed them. The catfish was good and fried hard like I like it. I really wished they had tartar sauce because that's mandatory for fish lol but the food was good. The music was really good and the vibes were super chill. The only thing that's weird to me is that they come to your table and take your order, but you pay as soon as you order. Thats a different considering we ate in, but I'd come back when I come to town again.

First time going to this place! My dad asked me to come and try it because he saw a video on Instagram so I came, the service was great they informed me about everything in the menu even the things they did not have in that moment. The wait time was pretty long but it was definitely worth it. The food tasted absolutely phenomenal and i would gladly come here again. The environment inside the restaurant is a bit small but it give a home like environment which makes you feel comfortable.

Pros: The service was really good. The team was kind. Food was delicious, ambience and renovation of the house is cute. Very seasoned. Apple Pay, cash and card accepted. Parking is meh, but our car was safe. Next time I'll sit outside. Bathrooms were clean. Cons: HOWEVER...the wait was excruciating and long. Over two hours for two plates. Then they ran out of items we ordered. I appreciate the running out, for real, that means things are good. Kool Aid-wow, sweet, cut with water. Next time we will sit outside. They take payments before they bring your food. Suggestion: order ahead even if you're dining in. Don't go hungry. Enjoy yourself and be kind. They are working as fast as they can in the back. Be gracious. Tip in cash to reduce the electronic fees.

Only downside is that…read morefor some reason Apple maps was not accurate to finding the location and parking was a challenge as it is right on Roosevelt Row. However as soon as I found it and immediately after entering Pretty Penny I was transformed to the cutest little restaurant. I was greeted immediately and had made a reservation so even though my friend hadn't arrived yet, they sat me down. They instantly offered water and menus (food and cocktail). I noticed that the menu seemed very small and the dishes were shareable -- I don't eat meat so I was hoping my friend wouldn't mind sticking with fish and seafood (which she didn't). As soon as I got to my table there was the cutest sign that said welcome to Sarah Sherman and guest -- it was such an adorable and personal touch, I loved that! As soon as my friend got there we immediately both ordered the cold brew old fashioned -- we thought about the espresso martini but this just sounded too good to pass up -- and we were not disappointed! This drink was so tasty and strong. We immediately ordered the bread (sourdough boule) to soak up some of the alcohol as well as some oysters and the salsa. The oysters were so well spiced and were absolutely delicious. But the bread, the bread, the bread -- the server mentioned that it took almost 9 months to develop the bread recipe and it served. It was the best bread and butter that I think I have ever had! The salsa was good but probably was my least favorite of everything and it was still super yummy. We then moved on to the octopus tostadas. Sometimes octopus is not my fav -- it can be too chewy but this was so amazing and incredibly flavorful. It was starting to be my favorite dish until we ordered the Hamachi -- OMG!! Talk about a mouth orgasm-- both my friend and I were yummming it up -- but seriously this bite was so complex with different flavors coming up with every chew -- it has coriander candied peanuts, fermented pineapple, avocado, pickled fresno, toasted coconut and aji amarillo yogurt -- The server mentioned that this was the chef's least favorite dish which I totally do not understand because this was off the charts in my book. We also tried the earl gray whiskey sour, which was light and delicious, and ended with the shrimp toast and the espresso martini. By the way the toast on the shrimp toast was like a little fried dough triangle -- sooooo gooood! The martini was good but the cold brew old fashioned really stole the spotlight for me. Other details I loved that just elevated the experience: Purse hook (very important to me), the little trays for your utensils, metal coasters, incredibly attentive servers, fantastic music, great ambiance and the cutest was the penny they put on top of your check. So cute -- was not expecting such an enjoyable all around experience!! Will be back 1000%!!!

To start, the menu is a bit puzzling. It's kind of like a handful of Asian-inspired dishes, a handful of Mexican/South American, and a handful of French or New American. But there's not enough of each to chart a course through one type of cuisine. So, basically you're gonna have a cultural melange meal. Hamachi crudo was really good and fairly unique. The halibut was excellently prepared but not particularly innovative in any way I could tell. Zucchini had goat cheese, which wasn't immediately clear from the description, so I didn't enjoy the rude surprise I got when I took my first bite, and didn't eat anymore, as I really despise the stuff. So that was a waste. Not a dig on the dish, just a personal thing I wish I had more notice of. There were other issues though. The wine list was exceptionally small, They were out of the bread, which is supposedly a must-try. And then we were going to get the steak but the folks next to us advised against it, showing their cut that had zero fat. They said it was leather. On that point, the tables are SUPER CLOSE. Like, a couple inches apart. You hear everything and almost can't avoid getting entwined into others' conversation. We liked the people we were next to, but be aware that it's an unintentionally awkward communal experience that's not well-suited to a date night. The service was pretty good, they put out a nice printed greeting with the reservation name, and give you a sparkling wine toast. But considering the price and overall experience we had, I'd pass and not come back.

The bartenders were knowledgeable enough to suggest excellent off-menu creations and kept the drinks--including the water--flowing with effortless style and hospitality. The wedge salad was crisp and bright, elevated by thoughtful ingredients like jalapeño bacon and balsamic onions. The crab dip was a standout: packed generously with crab and complemented by just the right amount of cheese, finely chopped red onions, and crispy breadcrumbs. We ended the evening with St. George Absinthe, an absolute gem of an offering. Jake, Brad, and Stormy were kind, attentive, and full of great recommendations without ever feeling pushy or intrusive. We did the summer special which was the best special I've ever seen. $60 per person and you get a generous glass of wine, app, entree, and dessert. We both got the curried corn bisque for the app and my oh my I greatly enjoyed this even on a hotter day. The Smokey popcorn was a nice textural addition and the soup was so flavorful, the curry definitely shined through! We also both got the fried chicken for entrees; how could I not order the gluten free fried chicken!? Yes, naturally gluten free! This was outstanding. I'm not sure what the coating is, but it was so so flavorful and so crispy, and the chicken still so juicy. I could eat that on its own. The pepper jems were a cute touch! The mashed potatoes were so creamy. The chicken was placed on top of them so the bottom of the chicken did get soggy so my one suggestion is to place the chicken to the side, but the coating did rub into the potatoes which added some more flavor. The green beans were also tasty, nothing special, but the pistachio butter elevated it (nothing else needed the pistachio butter, not sure what else you use it for). I had a chocolate cake for dessert, the only gluten free dessert they offered me, but I still appreciate the option. It was just okay. The cake was dense and a little dry and didn't scream rich chocolate. There was a chocolate mousse layered in which helped. My boyfriend had some sort of strawberry cake mousse thing with layers of many different things - he thought it okay, I tried the mousse part and really liked it. We had red wine and it was delicious! The service was great, very attentive and they packed some ice in a cup for me because we weren't going home after!
