This is the first time we rented bikes in Venice. We've heard that the trail was beautiful and wanted to check it out. I talked to Pam, the owner, and she was very helpful and told me exactly how to book this online. Once we got to their shop, it was so easy. She went over her rules and regulations as far as the bike and bike trails go. She gave us a map with all the places that we couple ride. The bikes looked in excellent shape and brand new. Pam explained how they worked as we had a couple in our group that did not know how to write them. We couldn't have had a more wonderful time on this beautiful trail. Walked in and asked if could rent a couple ebikes, they said no. We were able to rent after they explained we missed some sort of official start time and we would have to pay for the entire 4 hours. We rented e bikes from another place in Sarasota and rode to Venice. Unfortunately we were sent bikes with horrible battery life and ran out of juice right by Big Bams. These guys were GREAT! Let us charge our bikes back up (the batteries on lasted halfway back, just up to Clark. Bams is an awesome establishment, all kinds of new e-bikes, which have longer battery life. Also a nice little coffee shop and super informative about the area and especially e bikes. We will definitely rent bikes there the next time we are in the area ! read more

Purchased an electric bike in Michigan that needed some warranty work completed while spending winter months in Venice. The bike shop in Michigan ordered the parts and recommended that we use Big Bam Bikes in Venice. Parts were shipped and we waited for the call from Big Bam to bring the bike in for repairs. Understandably this is a busy bike shop and they forgot to call us when the parts arrived. We called them and scheduled an appointment within 2 days of the call. Very friendly owner and staff when we dropped the bike off on a Thursday afternoon. They said the bike would be repaired by Friday afternoon or Saturday morning. I even commented to my wife that when it comes time to purchase another E-bike that we would purchase from Big Bam. Received a phone call from Big Bam Friday afternoon and we explained to them that we were out of town and that we would pick the bike up at 10:00 am when they open on Saturday. This is when the great attitude of the store spiraled downhill. Comment about that they don't have room to store an extra bike was not necessary but we blew it off considering they are very busy. When we arrived at 10:00 am on Saturday to get the bike out of their way is when we experienced some very negative vibes. The 1st staff member greeted us with the universal signal of "BACK OFF". He said this is a very busy time as they have rental bikes going out. We understood this and said take your time and we are here to pick up a repaired bike and test ride a different electric bike that my wife was interested in. Another staff member wheeled the bike out to my car while my wife stayed inside to pay for the warranty work, A simple offer of possibly can I help you load this 60lb bike into the back of your SUV would of been appreciated. Because of the way we were greeted when entering the store we decided this was not the time to test ride a bike. We'll do that when we return to Michigan. The bike shop charged us a $25.00 extra fee to install the warranty parts because they charge more per hour than the manufacture pays them. I have no problem with this because the original bike shop in Michigan said that they would cover any extra expenses that Big Bam charges and they would pay Big Bam directly. At this point we couldn't wait to get out of the store. We paid the $25.00 and were on our way. We will get reimbursed when we return to Michigan. Amazing how what started as a great experience turned into such a bad experience with customer service within a 2 day period. On a positive note the bike was repaired correctly and the problem solved. read more
