Walked in and was immediately greeted with a smile by a man who knew EVERYTHING!!! (I don't remember his name...I wasn't the one talking to him) My friend had a ton of questions about a specific knife and the man in the store knew EXACTLY what my friend was looking for! They talked about the fishing out there, gave us recommendations for breakfast and lunch. Showed me what type of bear repellent I could carry around to scare off coyotes (when I walk my dog) etc. this was a wealth of information!!! We took his advice for breakfast and OMG...so deco lions, hole in the wall place! Came here twice during our three day stay at BBL. First time we came in looking for ping pong balls (yay for BP!) we found them, and upon checkout, we noticed a selection of knives; folding, hunting, etc. We didn't stay to buy one but Stephen, the manager, rang us up, and was probably one of the nicest people I've ever met. On our last day, we were sitting around our cabin, trying to think of something to do. All of a sudden, I reached enlightenment, and yelled "LETS GO KNIFE SHOPPING!" So we mobbed up in two cars, and 7 of us went to pick out knives. The ship was relatively busy and it didn't seem like there was anyone else working except for Stephen again. He was able to help all of us while also making sure the other customers got his attention if they needed anything. He never made us feel rushed and he took a lot of time explaining each knife we were interested in. Super professional but personable at the same time. We all walked out with awesome souvenirs, and we all agreed that this was some of the best customer service we have ever received. Wish we could take him back to LA with us. Overall, awesome freaking experience here! If you need BP balls, knives, or anything in between hit them up!!! read more

A beautiful 5 day holiday at Big Bear. Jeffery (the brocolli lover) brought his fishing pole, but Shelly and I know next to nothing about fishing. We stopped in to this great place, hoping for some male intervention. Steve was just the best guy! He basically took Jeff under his wing and showed him how to set everything up. He was just so wonderful! Didn't catch any fish this time, but still really enjoyed the experience. Highly recommend this place for getting outfitted for fishing in the area. We were in town for a long weekend, and I wanted to take my two young sons fishing for the first time. I called and Steve, the manager, was so friendly and helpful and invited me in. He got us outfitted with exactly what we needed, didn't 'sell' us on what we didn't need, he was really nice to my son, and even highlighted that the next day was national fishing day, so we could save a little money by waiting until the next day to go out. I totally recommend this place! This one employee in particular was awesome! Chris Powell is an outstanding employee to have on there team. He knows what he's doing and talks about what lure works best for the type of fishing I was doing. He recommended me a pair of sunglasses that are great for fishing and sense that day I have been wearing them and I can actually see the fish so I can catch them better. Got great tips on where to catch trout on the lake. Cory advised us to go to the north side between the observatory and fawnskin harbor. We drifted and found a spot where we caught 12 trout in an hour. Couple of 2lbs and many smaller. Best fishing of the year for us. read more

The shop is full of quality gear and tackle at fair prices and we find most of the basics for fishing Big Bear Lake all in one stop. The owner, manager and all the guys treat us right and are always helpful. You can rent gear, buy a complete new setup or add some great lures/bait to your collection. If you want to save time and money and be productive it's best to stop in the shop and get some expert advice whether you're fishing for trout, bass, crappie, bluegill or catfish. We focus on fishing but they have a nice variety of other great sporting goods too. Came to big bear to see snow in early spring only to find no snow on the mountain. Heard about fishing in big bear so decided to give it a try in below freezing weather... Not knowing anything about fishing, we came here after looking at positive reviews on Yelp. Yelp was right! Stephen at the shop is the best! He helped us to set up the rod, taught us to how to throw and gave us tips and places to fish nearby, and even threw in a free bait or two, all with so much patience.....He really wants you to catch something We gave our best in freezing temperature, had a lot of fun but caught nothing.
