Thanks to Big Blue, my timid non-swimmer is now a confident little fish that will stay in the pool all afternoon without any complaint. I love the low ratio of students to teachers which means each child has extra 1:1 time as compared to community center classes where it can be a free for all. The water is nice and warm and the facilities are clean. Their generous makeup lesson policy is a godsend for busy families and allows us to miss classes without feeling guilty. I like booking a double lesson for extra practice time and to minimize driving back and forth. We have been here for nearly two years and have a rolling roster of instructors. Everyone we have met has been extremely fun, nurturing, and overall just wonderful. It is true that teachers will change frequently but my daughter has never questioned it and we feel like the quality is consistent throughout. Their classes are decent. However, their customer service could use improvement. I wanted to inquire about something so made a call, but requested a call back since there were 6 people ahead of me. I received the call back, but I had to switch my headphones, so asked the caller to hold a sec. By the time I switched from speaker to my car audio, they had hung up - less than 5 seconds. And no, I didn't accidentally hang up - did everything through the car audio. No call back whatsoever! read more

Instructors are good, but frustrating customer service due to repeated IT issues (these are all things that have happened to me): 1) Missed lesson vouchers mysteriously disappear from your account. 2) lesson time gets switched without notice. 3) usually difficult to get make up lessons scheduled--no availability at desired time, and they don't open the schedule until 7 days prior to the desired make up day. 4) swim school closed due to emergency or other mechanical issue--no email or text message to customer as a heads up. I've shown up 4 times this year only to find the school is closed. I've reported the issue of not getting communication but the problem hasn't been fixed. 4) at least they give me a make up voucher when like an idiot, I do show up to the closed school--but see #1 and #3 above. My kids (6 and 9) have taken lessons at a couple of other places and have enjoyed their experiences at those facilities. Here, however, they LOVE it! Instructors: We started coming here a couple of months ago. They have had lessons from a few different instructors and all of them have been great. They make sure the kids are engaged throughout the lesson, provide skill-appropriate activities, and are good with re-directing if the kids get distracted. They always leave with smiles on their faces. In addition to having a great time, they have really improved in their techniques and have so much more confidence in the water. I couldn't be happier. Management: Danae and her team are welcoming and inviting. The facility is well-maintained. There is always something new to keep the kids engaged even while they are waiting for their lesson. It's these details that really make Big Blue in Fairfax stand out from other facilities. I can't say enough good things about how well things are run. Our kids started coming to the school from day 1 of their opening. We are generally happy with the school. We can say all the instructors they had for my kids were very good. However, I just have one big complaint about the administration. Sometimes, they do not take immediate action on an ongoing class that a child is destructive and the other kids are just standing there and wasting our precious 30 minutes. Usually, the staff just gives you "one free class" for future use however, my main thing is that we do not want the free class-we want quality class when we are there!!! We do not want to keep coming back for a make up session when the classes that we are attending isn't 100%! I appreciate the gesture of free class, but that is just a waste of our time and the young kids interest for the class. read more

Love the user-friendly facility and proximity to our house, however, can't say the same about some instructors. They found my toddler boy too hyper to handle. One even had the guts to ask me whether I can give my son a pill to calm down. The boy is a healthy energetic 3-year old who still needs to learn how to follow instructions. Prior to coming to this school, he attended swimming lessons in Germany and the coach was able to "handle" him along with another 5 toddlers by himself! We have been going to big blue swim school for a few month now with our three kids (5,3,1.5). All of our kids have made considerable progress in being more comfortable and competent in the water. All the instructors we have had so far have been exceptional. My 18 month old always lights up when she see Eclipse is our instructor for the day. My daughter whose 4 started here Saturday of last week and we got lucky to have the same coach twice J. My daughter had a scary water accident over the summer and had been scared of the water since, nothing she couldn't stand in was terrifying. I finally decided to start my daughter on swim lessons here when my daughter turned five last year; best idea ever! We started with a free trial, then bought the promotion when they offered $15 for 30 minute lessons for the first four lessons and then $29 for the next six months before it goes back to normal price. Before coming here my daughter could not swim at all and was even afraid of being in water, but after her trial lesson she immediately wanted to come back EVERYDAY. We are keeping her here for weekly lessons until she hits all the levels. She absolutely loves coming here and she's been improving so much. It's the one thing that she looks forward to every week. Seeing her excitement and big smile when she's in the water makes me a happy mommy. The instructors here are all nice and friendly and knows exactly how to deal with kids and how to teach them. I wish they had a 45 minute lesson option as 30 minutes is barely enough for my daughter to enjoy her time in the water, but it seems like 30 minute is the norm everywhere. The community center lessons are cheaper but the teacher to student ratio is like 1:5 or so which doesn't leave each kid with that much time. The ratio here is on average is 1:2 and I feel like we hit the jackpot when it's 1:1 on a few occasions. The app is also very user friendly; you can track progress and schedule/change/cancel lessons directly on there. We have been able to cancel last minute and schedule makes ups last minute with no issues. The convenience and flexibility is great for busy families. read more

Worst customer service ever.... Their app is not aptly equipped, i.e. no option is available to book an individual/private lesson for drop ins.... On repeated occasions, I flagged it.... Even then no necessary modifications introduced...rather they tell me drop in private lessons must be done in person or over phone!!! Now here comes a newer twist.... For the last one week or so I have been trying to set up new drop in sessions for my son.... The phone rings, automated menu system takes you through, then without any exception you are waiting in queue for 30 minutes (I called at least 7-8 times in the past week), then the system says maximum waiting time is up and they will call back.... They did call back twice...both times I talked to the same lady.... Wait for it...during our first conversation she kept repeating the same lines...for individual/private lessons I must contact the center directly as she is 'not authorized' to set up such appointments.... And I kept mentioning that I had been calling at the center's number, but nobody picks up and then she calls back...and also in the past, I had set up appointments over phone but I don't know with 'who'.... But rather than offering any solution or way around she just kept repeating the same.... Subsequently I requested her to contact and ask the center staff to call me.... She agreed...more than a day go by, nobody contacts...so, I call again...same in queue waiting, time's up, and then the call back...same lady on the other side.... I inform her nobody called... again, rather than offering any solution, she downloads the same nonsense.... Again I request her to contact the center and request them for a call back.... That was last Friday... I am still waiting.... Now these clearly demonstrate this organization's incompetency at various levels.... One , why would you have an app where all the service options are not available? And then, despite repeated feedback, why would you not rectify? Two, why would you have call center support without necessary authorization mandate and procedures to execute customer requests? Three, why would you not effectuate necessary work culture of flexibility and solution centric mindset to be able to offer effective and prompt customer solutions.... Absence of all these lead to loss of business, loss of reputation and image.... Please if you are going to run a business, run it like a business.... After I posted this review at google, a day later I got a template response which goes like this "Shuvashish Barua, thank you for your feedback. Your experience is important to us, and we would appreciate hearing more about it in order to improve our services. Management from the Fairfax location will be reaching out to you directly in order to learn more about your experience." It's been nearly 48 hrs now; I am still waiting!!! This has been the worst experience we've ever encountered with a children's lesson. We booked a trial swim class with a friend. Big Blue Swim sent out a cancellation on us a few hours before the class was supposed to start and then the only way we could rebook it was as a makeup lesson (because they put it in the system that we had canceled the original class). I wrote to customer service and got no response from them on how to otherwise book the lesson. With the makeup lesson, you can't actually book a class together with another child. They just slot you wherever they have space. We didn't discover this until we were literally trying to get into the pool and it was upsetting to my daughter, who was afraid of the water, that she didn't know anyone in the class and the instructor never bothered to introduce herself. I want to note that this is for a four year old, who didn't know how to swim and needs a little more introduction than just getting into the pool and waiting for an unfamiliar adult to eventually come by. By this time, classes had started and we were not allowed to switch. Unfortunately, and even more the manager told me there wasn't much they could do because of course we had a makeup class. Apparently when you are making up a class (through no fault of your own), you are treated like a second class citizen. We will never return here. read more
