Big Bobs pizza makes me think of a local watering hole. Tucked away in Gaslight village, you can sometimes miss it! However the locals know where to go and are treated like family by all the staff. I am part of a local running community and we have gone to Big Bobs after our Thursday night runs almost every week. The servers know everyone's orders and do an excellent jobs serving our large group. Cheesey bread sticks and root beer floats are the crowd favorites amongst the group and there is even free popcorn for a snack while you wait. As for drinks, they have most on tap options and also serve Athleta if you want an N/an option other than pop. In terms of ambiance or space, I'd say it's small but mighty. If you are looking for a last minute, casual dinner option in Gaslight villages I'd recommend this spot. The only exception would be on a game day because it will get BUSY! Always enjoy coming to Big Bobs! Know that if you come on a Friday or Saturday waiting for a table is part of the experience. We have come so many times. It's a great local place, that "outsiders" like myself enjoy going to as well. Service is always fast, but not in a way that makes you feel rushed to leave. They know people are waiting so they make sure to get the food and drinks out quick. During the summer when the patio is open it helps open up space and gives a little extra seating so it's not as crowded. However, the crowded part is also kind of fun too, because you know you are in a good place. The food has always been good. We have never had a problem with our order. We're normally big fans of this place. But our recent visit has made us dock a star (we'd dock two, but we're feeling generous). Prices have skyrocketed. Portions have been demolished. Our "pick three" appetizer was literally twice the price that a single appetizer used to be, and we got *less food*. Read that last sentence again. Whatever COVID did, it doesn't justify doubling the price and reducing the portions. I also ordered jalepeno bottlecaps, but they gave me poppers instead. Because they don't have bottlecaps anymore. So maybe the guy taking my order should have said as much? The menu linked on a Google search is the old menu, so as far as I knew, options and prices were still the old options and prices. The fried food seems to have changed in general. Normally, even leftover appetizers are good. Tonight, it was tough and not good within a couple of hours of getting our food. I think the cheesy broccoli bites are also different from what they used to be? So basically, prices up, portions WAY down, quality down. I, sadly, cannot confidently recommend this place anymore. It's not like it's terrible, but I was just at Pera Pizzeria nearby, and they're now the best pizza place in East Grand Rapids, and for less money. I'm sad. And angry that the food costs way more than it used to. Seriously, just take a quick peek at the photo I uploaded of the "pick three" appetizer option. It wasn't busy , a couple of people were out on the deck . Unfortunately, we had a bad experience with the staff and their negligence. She never returned to ask if my hubby wanted a refill on his water, or I with another tea. My Chicken Fajita salad was delicious and wonderful. Now my Hubby's Deluxe Ham & Cheese sub was not, it was burnt inside and the bread was hard . They don't tell you what type of bread they use for their subs ( you know like Subway , Vitale's or Jimmy Johns ) So your Assuming that it's going to be similar? Ugggh -no ! It was very chaotic as unsupervised children were sprinting in and out of the restaurant making it difficult to have a social conversation. Can't really comment on the food as we waited for 45 minutes without receiving our order. No, it wasn't busy! First time diners. Went for lunch with another couple. The waitress was great. The owner came and chatted. The restaurant is clean as well as the restrooms. My friend ordered their wet chicken burrito. When he took his first bite, the inside of the burrito was cold? The waitress took it back and brought it warmed up. One person had a salad, it was okay. What a cute place it is. It's fairly small. Right when you walk in, a hostess immediately asks "how many." The waiting area is very very small! We were told a 30 minute wait, but ended up waiting 10 minutes. We started off with the fried green beans. They were good. Could've been better if seasoned with salt and pepper. They also have a popcorn machine for free popcorn while waiting :) Service was mediocre. But I give the server props. On a busy Friday night, there were only 2 servers on the floor she forgot my lemon with my water, but at towards the end of our meal, profusely was apologizing and gave me a lemon. No biggie. The pizza is phenomenal. My fiancé and I ordered the "Briazzo" pizza with pineapple, Bacon, and ham. Dough was cooked perfectly. Sauce was so delicious I could've drank the side cup of marinara we got with it. It was lacking sauce, which was disappointing, but the side was perfect to go with it. I would bring my family and friends from out of state to this establishment to show it off. One note to share- we ordered a 10" pizza. We could barely finish one slice each. I've heard about Big Bob's Pizza in East Grand Rapids for years but I never even really knew where it is. That changed last night when my boyfriend and I stopped in for dinner and had a really awesome experience! We had to Google map it since neither of us knew where it was - hint, it's a bit off the beaten path and kitty corner to Jersey Junction. The space and parking lot are both pretty small, so you may have to find street parking, but it's totally worth it. We were greeted right away when we stepped inside, so there was no awkward "do we seat ourselves or do we wait to be seated" hovering. One of the first things I noticed when we sat down is that they have free popcorn! If there's one thing I love about an establishment, it's when they have free popcorn, so I was excited about that. The menu at Big Bob's is pretty typical with pizza, sandwiches, subs, salads, and pasta. They do have a specialty item that I have never seen anywhere else called the briazza which is a deep dish stuffed pizza! We ordered the fried green beans to start and the meat lovers pizza on regular crust (you can also choose thin or thick crust). The green beans came out and were super hot and fresh, and it was a large portion - definitely enough for up to four people to share as an appetizer. The beans themselves were tender-crisp and the batter was perfection - crispy and not at all soggy or too bready. The wasabi ranch was an awesome accompaniment. My boyfriend and I both loved these! Then came the pizza - holy cow! So Big Bob's is known for pizza and it's easy to see why. The regular crust was perfect - not too thick, and not too thin. The toppings were piled on and every single piece was covered. My boyfriend commented that usually he gives me the piece with the most sausage (my favorite), but this time he didn't have to do that, because every piece had an even amount of sausage (and a lot of it). My one and only small negative about the pizza is that I found the sauce to be too sweet, but that's pretty typical for me at most pizza places as I don't like any sweetness in pizza sauce. It also got quite loud in the restaurant as it's really tiny with a lot of echoing going on. We paid about $35 including tip for the 17" pizza and the fried green beans, which was well worth it for the amount of food and the quality of the ingredients. They also serve beer and wine! The owner, Rob, stopped by twice during our meal to check on us and ask us how everything was, which I always think is such a great customer service gesture. Then, as we were leaving, he wished us happy holidays and thanked us for coming in so we introduced ourselves and said it was our first time stopping in. He asked for our names and asked how we heard about Big Bob's. Super nice guy and I was impressed with his genuine attention to us even though it was getting pretty busy with a large party coming in. We've lived about 5 minutes from Big Bob's for about 6 years and never tried it until last night. Their menu had a lot of different options, both healthy, and not so much, but definitely specialize in pizza, hence their name. I was impressed by the service and quality of food (we ordered pizza, sub and onion rings) and cleanliness of the restaurant/bar. It's one of those places you can feel comfortable going to in your workout clothes; it's a pretty casual place. We also liked that they have their own parking, so getting in/out was no issue. The one big negative was their lighting. Wow, it's bright, even in the evening. Due to that, I feel it's more of a lunch place, take-out or delivery option for us in the future. read more

This place is such a gem and I feel lucky to have it in my back yard! It's in an adorable house right by Rite aid and D&W in East GR. We ordered a 14 inch briazzo with ham and pepperoni (for take out, in the middle of COVID-19) and it came to 23.84. the guy working instructed my boyfriend to keep it flat on the ride home and warned us that it would be messy. We are glad we followed his instructions! We used the biggest knife we had to cut it, they don't cut it so the toppings don't ooze out of it. We appreciated the heads up, and ended up eating it with a fork! The cheese was generous (awesome cheese pull!) and the sauce had hints of sweetness but NOT too sweet. The price might seem like a lot for a pizza but once we ate it we thought it was 100% worth it, not to mention very unique to the area. We each had one piece and were full - so excited for leftovers for the upcoming weekend. Can't wait to go back and have a beer once quarantine is over. read more

I love their wide selection of beer that is offered, along with their extensive menu. We have frequented this place over the last 4 years and every time I'm there, I'm never disappointed with the service and quality of food. Everything from the pizzas (Briazzos are crazy amazing) to the appetizers (our go to is their cheesy breadsticks) are tasteful and timely. I particularly love that this restaurant is fully stocked with stuff for the kids - complimentary popcorn, books, games, and a sense of flexibility despite the relatively tight quarters inside. We've been in here a few times, and it's a favorite of the kids for one simple reason: Free popcorn. There's a popcorn machine right next to the front door that guests are free to get popcorn out of on their own - and it's usually pretty tasty. The kids ate 2 bowls each, and didn't end up eating a ton of their dinner because of that. They have a pretty good selection of beer on tap/available, including Samuel Smith's Organic Chocolate Stout which my wife loves. The food is good but not great, typical pizza place food - sandwiches, pizza, and salads. I went for a Buffalo Chicken salad, which was pretty tasty - nice and spicy, and good amount of bleu cheese dressing with it. It also had nacho chips mixed in with it, which I thought was weird at first but gave the salad a nice crunch. The service here is pretty great - they greet you as soon as you come in the door, have nice banter with you while at the table, and are prompt. To sum up - a nice local pizza place, good for kids and adults alike. During the summer it'd be a good double header to have dinner here and then walk across the street to Jersey Junciton to have dessert. read more

(They don't have gluten-free crust, so I stay away but just recently learned they serve up a pizza on corn chips - like pizza nachos - for those that want to go the gluten-free route.) I personally like to come for the customer service, I have always had such a great time dining at Big Bob's. It is owner by a brother and sister. They really know what it means to offer great customer service. My wife and I discovered Big Bob,s a few years ago and have been coming here almost every week since. It is a family run business and the owners make you feel welcome the moment you step in the door. They have a great menu with delicious food and a large selection of drinks. But the best part is the atmosphere. Rob and Jen always go out of their way to make sure you enjoy your visit . Very disappointed! Tried going back after a year. Ordered two wet burritos and when got home discovered they were cold, unheated and no sauce or cheese. Contacted manager who was willing to give me credit, apologetic. Today ordered 3 pizzas for a birthday party, went to pay and there was no credit on my account. Met by less than courteous worker who became frustrated. To make it worse, one pizza had a very soggy crust. Let's start with hamburger meat, add a special siracha ketchup, and finely diced pickles. It was awesome! I went with the small but could have easily destroyed the next size up.
