Big Bob's is always a hit for family pizza night. We recently decided to step out of our comfort zone and try other menu items. We LOVED it! The burritos were amazing and ginormous, and the turkey sandwich is my husband's new food obsession. We have also used them many times for delivery and recently for a large company party. Never a disappointment with the food. In addition to consistently having great food, we love the owners and staff. They are so kind and they always treat my child like he's the only person in the room. This is always my indicator for great service. So we were trying to find a rally good Chicago style pizza, and after much searching we discovered Big Bob and the Briazza. We placed a take out order then drive across town. When we picked it up, staff was super friendly, he showed us the pizza and said it would best to cut it at home because all the toppings would ooze out. The pizza was huge and weighted a ton. We drove home in anticipation, it weighed almost 7 pounds. We cut into it and it did not disappoint. It was filled to the brim, super cheesy, stuffed with meat and veggies just like we ordered. It was delicious with plenty left over for lunch tomorrow. We also ordered breadsticks and marinara sauce, also delicious. Can't wait to go back again. read more

Ok, so I was invited back to give Big Bob's another try after our not-so-great first impression. As the place bills itself as a family restaurant as well as a bar, I did bring the wife and kids. I will say our second visit was during a much less-busy time. On this visit, I found the staff much more friendly and both the waitress and the bartender were great. That being said, the service is definitely not very fast. We were one of only 4 tables of patrons and it still took us about 45 minutes to get our food. The kids got a mac-n-cheese and a personal pizza and we asked those to be brought out as soon as they were ready, which was about 35 minutes, the same as our boneless buffalo wings app. Our entrees came about about 10 minutes after that. The pizza is decent, but the sauce is a bit too sweet for my taste. I was expecting a bit more based on the reviews, but I admit it was just a plain black olive pizza. The mac-n-cheese is identical to Kraft mac and cheese. My wife got the Chicken Fajita Salad and I got the Chicken Pesto pasta special. Our entrees were decent, but at a very reasonable price point. I do love that they have Blue Point Toasted Lager on tap, and that helped the time pass a bit more easily. All in all, I would say this place is good. The food is not spectacular by any means but the prices are more than reasonable and I feel there is actually pretty good value for the money. My wife and I agreed this would be a better place for adults to meet, but the wait times can make it a bit hard on the little ones. read more

Friday evening dinner with the family looking forward to some pizza. Restaurant was about half full. Staff was welcoming. Bottom line: Family enjoyed warm chicken sandwiches and chicken tenders. Consensus was 4 or 5 stars on these items. A few of us shared the Big Bob Deluxe pizza. Went with the thin crust. Came away a little disappointed. Pizza seemed undercooked. Crust was a bit soft/soggy. I am a mushroom lover and couldn't find very many on the pie. I'll give the pizza a 3.5 out of 5. Restaurant was neat with good service. Didn't wait too long for the meals. Enjoyed our first trip. Will return for another pizza try. read more

Big Bob's is the absolute gem of East Grand Rapids. Here you'll be greeted by a smiling face (usually the owner), a well cultivated tap list, top notch pizza, and a solid burrito, but the real star of the show is a sandwich. Trust me. Enter the Portabello Mushroom Sandwich: a sliced portabello cap on toasted ciabatta bread topped with melted mozzarella and provolone cheese, dressed with lettuce, tomato, red onion, and a chipotle mayo. I add an extra side of chipotle mayo myself, not because the sandwich needs it, but because it's too delicious not to. The menu has an icon designating it a Big Bob's Specialty, so I should've known how great it would be, but here I am unable to order anything else on the menu. It's that good. Hopefully I'll wear myself out someday and be able to experience the rest of menu, but for now I'm content just loving this sandwich! They also have a pretty nice patio too! This place has gone down hill. Selection of adult beverages is limited, which is just weird since the person who owns this place owns two other bars with really good specialty drinks. Two, there are NO gluten free options. You can order a dressing soaked salad though. Yum. It's 2018. People have food issues due to all the harmful crap in our food system so instead of acting like we don't matter, get with the program and order some gluten free pizza dough and some bread. Three, Service was bad and she acted like it was a burden that we were there. We ordered pizza and toppings weren't right but server couldn't do anything about it because she was smoking out back thinking about how much she hates this restaurant. Seventeen, the bathroom door was caked on dirty on the inside and out and that is just gross. Two stars because I'm generous. read more

We enjoy coming here, and are never disappointed. It has a bright casually comfortable interior (help yourself to popcorn), and service is prompt & friendly. We enjoy the pizza but most recently came in for sandwiches. My wife had the turkey club sub (6" size) with sw potato fries, and I got the full size French dip with au jus. They were very good and sizable, so we needed a box to take the rest home. We probably would've preferred their onion rings or fries since the spf were not so flavorful. Had nothing but great food and awesome service since I moved to the SE side of town. Too bad that when you were clearly too busy to provide the expected level of service you don't just tell customers. After we were told thirty minutes the food finally arrived 1:47 minutes later. 2.1 miles away none the less with the calzone and cheese bread so dried out and cold if was basically inedible. In the future please just let people know if you are unable to provide the level of service we have come to expect. At least then I would give you another chance. read more

Came here for my niece's birthday last night. It's a nice little pizza joint with good parking in the gas light district of EGR. It's very loud inside due to echos from the high ceilings in the sitting area. For pizzas, \wWe ordered the BBQ Hawaiian, Pepperoni and their combo/deluxe. Overall the pizza was just okay. The sauce was decent but found the texture of the pizza to be too doughy. We also ordered a Caesar salad and a sausage Briazzo. Caesar salad was good. Briazzo looks like someone smashed together a personal Chicago pizza with a bread soup bowl. It was messy but tasty. read more

Their pizza is so damn good! Also Big Bad Baptist on tap. Just wish he could have told me which batch. That's important. Atmosphere and beer selection are better than average. Lots of tvs for a small area. The waitress was top notch. Service was quick. The food was not good. My pulled pork sandwich had more slaw than pork. The brioche bun was still very cold, almost as if it was still thawing out. The cheese was cold as well. Definitely not a $10 sandwich. What a mess! First off, let me say that I was staying at a Grand Rapids hotel, and my choices were Olive Garden & delivery. So I stopped by Yelp and there were some pretty decent reviews so I thought that I would give Big Bob's a shot. So my experience was based solely on delivery. I have to also throw out the fact that I ordered their "Chicago style" pizza, the Briazzo. I loaded it up with veggies, no meat. It arrived within the window that they told me to expect, and it was piping hot! I was impressed, but a bit nervous when the delivery person told me that the pie was not pre-cut as they handed me some plastic silverware, paper plates, & napkins. But like a trooper I carried forward. The crust is above average. It was obviously made on-site, and had a sort of earthy texture with a rich flavor. The veggies were really tasty and fresh, though diced a bit smaller than my preference would allow. The problem that I had with the pie had to do with the sauce. It was obviously constructed from canned diced tomatoes, and it was MESSY!! I don't know if they were exceptionally busy and didn't have time to properly drain the tomatoes or what, but it was everywhere and mediocre in flavor at best. If I end up back in Grand Rapids, I'll probably give this one a pass. I'm not bummed that I experienced Big Bob's, but for me once is enough. If you want to check it out, I don't want to dissuade you. Just stay away from the Briazzo. read more

Tried this little joint for the first time this evening. Was immediately welcomed upon entry, and seated right away. Found an excellent beer selection both on draft and bottled. Elected to try the 10" Briazza. If you've had the deep dish at Frankie V's, it's like that but better. It's twice baked, so the crust stays crispy, with loads of gooey toppings in the middle and sealed off with a healthy helping of cheese on top. Our server was Rob, he was very attentive, super friendly, and took time to learn our names and a little about us. It was truly a throwback to "old school" service. Couldn't have been more pleased with the experience, will definitely be back, and will recommend to friends! read more

okay, so we joked about going here for several months because the name is like big bobs beepers, like in hey arnold! we did not actually decide to go until we heard they had a greenbush tap takeover. we missed it but we're down for trying all sorts of pizza so figured we'd just run in get a drink and a pizza and run out. however, when we got there were immediately impressed with the atmosphere. it was like a bar, a family owned olive garden, and a diner all in one. the decor is very streamline, black trimmed and clean, yet obviously not too fancy to wear jeans and a tshirt. the staff was AMAZING! we were given samples of all sorts of things on tap, since our waiter was obviously a beer geek and we are obviously beer geeks it was pretty awesome to be so welcomed, and to find out they did several pretty awesome things on tap. aside from the awesome service, since i never rate a place on service but rather its food, the pizza was AWESOME. in fact, still holds the place of our favorite pizza in grand rapids. it was so good and they gave us so many better topping options such as spinach, feta and basil. I'm a big fan of fresh greens on my pizza so that they offered both was nice. like i said, we consider this to be the best pizza we've had in grand rapids. after living here for almost six months and trying almost a dozen pizza places this one is by far far far the best. we also got bread sticks that were pretty good. we saw other people being served personal pizzas that looked great, not to thin or too thick but like an actual, filling, mini pizza. we also saw someone order the chicago style pizza and it looked really good, we plan to go back and try it. i'm only sad we don't live closer to this place, it's so great! Cute pizza place, no wait on a Sunday evening for a group of four. They have some of their own parking, but aren't far from the Gaslight Village parking ramp either. Two of our group created their own pizza sampler with three 7" pizzas (they said the Chicken BBQ was the best), & my husband & I split a Briazzo, which is basically their take on a deep-dish Chicago-style pizza. We split the smallest size, and still had a bit left over. The garlic toast that came with it was pretty boring, but the Briazzo was stuffed full of cheese, ham, sauce, and more cheese, and was more than enough to keep us happy! The free popcorn while you're waiting for your pizza is a nice touch too. read more

I'm surprised no one has reviewed this place yet, but I'm also surprised at how long it took me to go here. I don't know how long they've been in this location, but friends have been telling me about how much they like it for a good while. Anyway, the wife and I wanted to do dinner with some friends that live in EGR and we all wanted a kid friendly place. A pizza joint seemed like a good idea. (Since the ladies shot down going to Yesterdog..) Big Bobs did not disappoint. It was a busy place at 6:15 on a Saturday. They have their own lot plus there is some street parking. Parking is in front and the building sits in back. If you're coming from the north it sneaks up on you because you can't see it until you are right there because of a big fence. Its pretty much across the street from Jersey Junction. Anyway, we had cheesy breadsticks and a couple of pizzas, pretty basic really, but the quality was good. Way better than the chains. My only caveat is that the sausage is the same kind that you see in a lot of pizza places that always reminds me of dog food. You know, pretty perfectly spherical stuff that doesn't taste bad, but doesn't really taste great. We saw lots of pasta dishes getting served around us and they looked quite large and tasty. This place gets tons of foot traffic picking up food. If I lived in the area I would definitely go hear a lot. In fact, while we were sitting there another friend came in to pick up some food. Smaller inside without a bazillion tables, but it was all good. Worked well with the kids. Oberon was on tap, so the dads were happy. Wil be back. read more

Stopped for lunch to give it a try after hearing good things about it. Not crowded, only 3 other tables seated. Drink arrived in a timely manner and order was taken. 45 minutes later my sub arrived. I only saw one person working (I believe the owner) at the time of my visit. The food was good, but not that good to wait that long. I thought I would give it another try around dinner time a few weeks later. Saturday evening around 5:30pm my wife and I arrived, crowded but open tables. We were seated right away. Waitress arrived and took our drink order. 20 minutes later our drinks arrived at our table. I witnessed another table walk up to the bar and asked if anyone was going to take their order. There was plenty of wait staff on duty that evening. So, when our drinks arrived the waitress didn't even ask if we were ready to order which we were after waiting 20 minutes for out drinks. Another 20 minutes go by and she asks if we would like to order. I politely declined and asked for our check. Slow service. You really need to work on that. read more

We visited during our honeymoon and really enjoyed this place. The pizza and brews were excellent. The bartender was very nice and so helpful in recommending other places to see during our journey across Michigan. We will absolutely be going back during our next stop in Grand Rapids. Great selection of craft beers and ciders on tap and excellent selection of quality bottle beers not to mention the top shelf liquor. I have a new favorite beer now from Blue Point Brewery in Long Island! Their Toasted Ale is unbelievably smooth and tasty! Oh and did I mention that our food was amazing too! I had a Big Bob's deluxe pizza minus the onions and green peppers and swapped in black and green olives in their place. Without blinking this swap was cheerfully received and accommodated! My husband had a buffalo Chicken wrap and loved it too! We originally went to Big Bob's tonight to support the JDRF fundraiser but we will go back for the food and the service! The restaurant was very cute with nice outside seating. Free popcorn if you get the munchies while waiting on your food and tvs with sports to help keep you distracted. The Briazzo we had was great! Loved the sweet sauce they used in the pizza. I would definitely recommend it to anyone and would love to go back someday. The only downside was the service by our waitress was a little slow in getting us a box and taking the check but everyone was super friendly so that and the food made it more than worth it! read more

Good to be back at home and within walking distance of this SE side staple. Though they moved a few blocks it's well worth it as they have a great selection of beers and the food is second to none. Great staff that are always personable and friendly. We wanted to do something different last night, so I started scrolling around the map in Yelp with the "Good for kids" filter turned on. Reviews for Big Bob's seemed pretty good, and we'd never been there before, so we decided to give it a shot. Overall, it was a winner. Definitely hopping (especially since it's pretty small), but the staff was attentive. The food was really good, the atmosphere was definitely good for families, and the prices were decent. I'd give 5 stars except for one thing--the noise. I travel a decent amount, and I've been in a lot of restaurants, and this is a pretty common complaint for me. Quaint, inviting rooms with hard surfaces everywhere and sharp angles on walls and ceilings. Rooms that act like echo chambers. A few strategically placed sound absorption panels on the ceiling and walls would make a world of difference. read more

Ordered the 14 inch bizarro( half way stuffed pizza)I believe it was called. First of all the SAUSE was the worse ive ever tasted. Thinking it was ragu out the can. Undercooked, all cheese no toppings when I ordered 3, meatball, bacon, jalapeno. Service is no star. If you love pizza dont go here. I brought a friend he also told me worse pizza ever. The veggie pizza is awesome! Would prefer thin crust but the crust is just too thin to handle all the toppings. So we just stick with regular. Still good. Not a lot of pizza shops still put broccoli on pizza. It's a nice place if your looking for a change rather than the boring old Pizza Hut. read more
