    Double Cheese Burger
    Matthew E.

Our first time eating here. It was ok but not worth the money or worth going back. The drive thru menu board was clean and clear. Easy to read. Ordering was a snap. Very friendly staff. Service was pretty good. They made my food quick so it was hot and fresh. I was let down by the quality of the burgers. The buns were very thin, maybe they smashed them but way too fragile and I couldn't pick up my burger without it falling apart. Flavor was decent, nothing to set it apart from any other burger place. Honestly, for the amount this meal cost me, I could've gotten better food at a much better price at McDonald's. It was "ok" but. It worth the price tag. Won't be back.

A random stop for us on a road trip. Had never heard of it and didn't know what to expect...but you usually can't go wrong with burgers! There was a line of about 5 customers when we arrived, but the cashier was fast and efficient. We received our order quickly and all was accurate. Definitely a fast food restaurant vibe with booth seating inside. They have the original menu on the wall...interesting to see how prices have changed. Great food! Burgers were tasty and filling. But the onion rings were definitely the most talked about item!! The grilled chicken sandwich was good, as well as the French fries. We enjoyed our quick stop while passing through!

What can I say about this place: it's classic American style cheeseburgers and rings with a shake. Then you throw in the convenience of fast food-it's awesome!! Today I ordered a side of Big Boy sauce and decided to use it with both my double cheeseburger and onion rings. Well dang, now I gotta cut my calories rest of the week. But it's so worth it! If you want one of the best cheeseburgers in KC (and the best onion rings I've ever had) you came to the right place. Well done Big Boy! Big Boy also hosts car shows and has a great desert menu. Their staff have always been friendly and helpful when I've worked with them. You can't go wrong here!

I love the orings here they are some of the best in the country and that is a small order. I am a fan of the pork tenderloin and their shakes . I try to limit myself to only once a month here as they provide plently of calories in their meals . I hope they comtinue to thrive and were busy when I was there . You can order inside which is faster if there is a long line at the drive through

Big Boy's Restaurant has been at the same location since 1962. It's served Independence as a great stopping spot to grab a cheeseburger and also a shake. I'm vegetarian, but I love this place...which makes me not much of a faithful vegetarian. The sandwiches are large, with an over-sized hamburger, (I order my cheeseburgers plain). The French fries are crunchy, and one receives an ample amount. What totally nips it in the bug are the onion rings. OMG...my favorite item on the entire menu. They are not frozen, but made from scratch, and are large, and I can't rave on them enough. You can smell the onion rings outside. The other menu items are tenderloins, hot dogs, fish sandwich (another of my favorite, as I try to stay away from beef as often as I can). They have the best tarter tots ever. They have a children's menu, and Jr. sized sandwiches. The shakes are so good. They are one of the best shakes in the Independence area. The cyclone shakes with Butterfingers or Oreos beg to be ordered. The shakes come in a variety of flavors. The restaurant also serves ice cream sundaes and ice cream cones. Let's talk about the cherry limeaides! Perfectly mixed, and you know when you order a cherry lime aide, and you drink it to the bottom , and there's no cherry or lime in it? Not so with Big Boy's cherry limeaides. The half of a lime is in the bottom of the glass. The cherries are also in the bottom of the glass. When ordering, you order, and wait for the meal. They have a drive through that, every single day at noon is backed up clear to 40. highway. But don't let this cause you to go somewhere else. The staff are efficient, and the line moves quick. The bathrooms are clean, and the restaurant is bright. The food is a bit higher priced than fast food chains. It is worth it.

The PB & J Burger sounds wild on paper, but it absolutely works. The peanut butter brings that rich, savory creaminess, and paired with the jalapeño jelly, it hits this perfect sweet-with-a-kick balance that keeps every bite interesting. It's one of those burgers that makes you stop after the first bite like, "okay... this is legit." The Sweet Heat Burger leans even more into that flavor combo. The sweetness comes through first, then the heat builds, and that jalapeño jelly really ties it all together, adding both sweetness and a subtle spice that doesn't overpower the burger itself. It's bold, messy in the best way, and just really well executed. Neither of these quite cracked my personal #1 burger of all time, but they're not far off. Both were seriously delicious, packed with flavor, and easily worth trying if you're in the area.

We met at Café Cà Phê's four-year anniversary…read more I came around the corner and there they were. We locked eyes. I couldn't believe they were staring right at me. For a brief moment, I thought I heard music. There was a DJ, actually. But that's not how I remember it. I remember the bus. Yellow and black, impossible not to notice. Anime artwork stretched across the side. Go Chew Burger. At the window, someone was waiting who was every bit as inviting as the aroma coming out of that heavenly little bus. I started looking over the menu, and there, winking at me, was the GOCHEW Burger. They mentioned the double patty. I hesitated. "We won't tell anybody." Two patties it was. They also talked me through the kimchi: fresh or charred. They gave me enough information to make me feel like I was making all the decisions. Double patty. Charred kimchi. Loaded fries. I was all in. While I waited, I did what anyone with an infatuation does: research. I learned about Joohae "Chewy" Yoon and what she's trying to do with GOCHEW--take Korean flavors and put them into foods people already know. Burgers. Fries. Familiar food carrying something new. Then the buzzer went off. Time for our first date. No chairs. No tables. Things were getting a little awkward, so we went back to the car. The fries had lost their crispness to the sauces and steam, but I didn't care. The Korean BBQ sauce was sweet and savory, the gochujang brought mild heat, the creamy lime sauce cut through it all, and the bright green chives pulled everything together. Incredible. But the burger? Perfectly crisped edges. Juicy, hot beef. Melted cheese. Charred kimchi bringing sweetness and acidity. Three sauces that somehow never fought for attention. And the bun had a serious responsibility. Two patties. Cheese. Kimchi. Three sauces. Everything depended on it. Spider-Man protects New York and everyone who depends on him. This bun had the same problem. With great power comes great responsibility. And it held. Mostly. The attraction was still there. The infatuation was still there. But they had become something else entirely. Love. This wasn't just a good burger. This is the best smash burger I've had in Kansas City. Chewy set out to make people fall in love with Korean food by putting those flavors into things they already know. I think she got me.

The carhops came right up to our window to take our order and were incredibly friendly and welcoming. The menu is surprisingly large for such a small place. We ordered the Wiz Burger, chicken nuggets, tots, onion rings, fries, and Brown Cow root beer floats. Prices were very reasonable, which was a nice bonus. One thing I really loved was the option to order their homemade root beer in an ice-cold glass mug (which you return when you're done). It definitely adds to the nostalgic experience. Our favorite items were the crispy tater tots, the chicken nuggets (which were more like mini chicken strips), and the root beer floats. The Wiz Burger was definitely unique, but it wasn't a crowd-pleaser in our car. It's made with loose meat mixed with onions, pickles, and cheese, which may appeal to some but wasn't our favorite. I'd definitely go back to try the chicken sandwich, pork tenderloin, or spicy buffalo dog. The food itself might be closer to 3 stars, but the unique throwback nostalgia of the carhop era bumps the overall experience into 4-star territory. It's a must-try-at-least-once kind of place.

The old larger bun, not biscuit size, grilled burger meat, mine seemed losely patted and steamed and more than pickle, onion and mustard. Maybe thats just the way its always been and others love it. Everyone was friendly, welcoming, and our food came out quickly. I ordered a turkey club while my dad got one as well, and unfortunately we both had the same issue. The turkey was on the dry side, and it was sliced much thicker than I personally prefer. I tend to like a thinner deli-style sliced turkey, so it just wasn't my favorite sandwich. My mom ordered one of the salads though, and honestly it looked better than my sandwich. It was loaded with fresh toppings, and she said the ranch was excellent. If I come back, I'd probably skip the sandwich altogether and give one of the salads a try. Overall, I can definitely appreciate what they're going for. The prices are fantastic, honestly unheard of in present day, and that's the main reason I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 3.
