There were a lot of cars waiting to be repaired, but I had an important appointment I needed to get to so they accommodated me and took me basically right away, and my husband has had his work done on our 10-year-old vehicle at this location as well previously and was very satisfied. The lobby is big and clean and they do work on all kinds of the vehicle brakes suspension alignment, oil, diagnostic, etc. I had a screw in my back tire which just needed to be plugged up so I can get on the road and get to where I needed to go, and that was done Efficiently. Everyone seems very professional and knowledgeable. Chris helped me at the front counter and got my vehicle taken into a bay quickly. I gave two stars for trying. I took my vehicle in because the driver side shook when turning left. Big Chief took it three times for a test drive and said they could not find anything wrong that it was safe to drive. I left got on the highway and it shook like crazy when the wheel went left at all. So I went home and searched for Charles who used to manage this place years ago. I found his number and went to see him because he's just an amazing guy. He drove my car and felt the horrible shaking and in 8 min diagnosed that the rack and pinion was going bad. Not sure why Mike or the others couldn't diagnose but I do appreciate Charles expertise in finally figuring it out. They told me that my fairly new tire could not be patched and I needed to buy one of their tires (which would not match my other three). I am sad to know that Steve, who was the Manager for more than twenty years is now stepped down and semi-retired now. He is helping out with the paperwork at Normandy location. Ian helped me today. He was top Notch and knew what he was doing. All of the entire staff are top notch. I had my brakes done last weekend and I was told I needed two tires. Metal was coming out of one tire and the other was bald. They had me in and out of the door within 45 minutes. I feel so much better now. I did but the roadside protection for only $10.00 extra per tires. It is good up to 3500 miles. They will rotate all of my tires for no charge, since I have all Big Chief tires. I have been coming here for more than twenty years and every visit, I am pleasantly surprised with their Professionalism and kindness towards others and myself. There are at least three locations. Went to have my tires rotated and balanced in my new dually truck several months ago and althouhh they did the job, they completely marked up the wheel of my new truck. Unfortunately it was raining when they finished and I did not see this immediately but noticed when I pulled I exit the truck as soon as I got home. After informing the manager and gm that I would t be able to come back for them to see it for a several weeks due to work, they agreed that would be ok but that they would take care of the damage (even sent and posted pictures in another review at that time). Well low and behold when I take it there several weeks later, they say they don't see how they could have done it and to keep me happy they'll pay for half a wheel... this ship damaged a $400 truck wheel on a brand new truck and then wanted to act like they were doing me a favor by paying for half of it. I make it a point to tell everyone about my experience now. I won't go broke over a $400 replacement wheel, but I will make sure I cost them more in lost business with how many people I tell about my experience and their lack of willing to completely correct their employees error and damage to my truck they refuse to fix. read more

This place was hoppin when I got here at 7:30 this morning, thank goodness I made an appointment! There have been a few who walked out due to a wait of about 45 mins to an hour, with an appointment you skip to the front of the line. Came in for four new tires. Did some searching and big chief had some of the best prices for tires/alignment. Of course this is for what I wanted but I looked in Jax and in Gainesville because I am heading that way in a few days. Bald tires are never good to drive on, but the staff here at big chief made the fix quick and as affordable as I could find for a whole new set of tires. So much for writing my review ahead of time. It took an hour and a half to get my tires on. I've never had to wait that long, especially when I have had an appointment and showed up on time. I think that was mainly because whoever was doing them cracked two of the caps on my wheels. One had at least a three inch piece broken off. They claim there was nothing they could do, that they were already cracked. Not sure, seemed kind of fishy. Maybe had it not taken so long I would have been inclined to believe them. But after the amount of time I waited... I wasn't happy. They cracked two caps... I would have liked to be told that when it happened instead of after two were damaged... doesn't seem like the best business practice. read more

I and my auto mechanic have been bringing my vehicles to Phillips Hwy Big Chief Tire for years; I've been a satisfied customer until today. My TPMS system was not working properly and I previously had brought the vehicle in to be diagnosed. Today was the scheduled appointment to repair my vehicle. I dropped it off on time and decided to wait on the vehicle since it was to be a 60-90 minute job. 3 hours later the office tells me that they've diagnosed the problem and wanted to know if I wanted repairs made to the TPMS system. I reminded them that was the reason the car was in the shop. At the fourth hour, I asked the front office what the status of my vehicle was; they told me that it was being worked on and would be ready in about 15 minutes. I responded that I had physically been observing my vehicle hanging out of the bay for the past 30 minutes and that no one was working on the vehicle. The office man then called the manager who was in the work bays for an update. The manager had to be reminded that I had been waiting on-site for my vehicle to be repaired which based on what I overheard was "news" to the manager. Finally, just before the fifth hour, the manager let's me know that the vehicle would be ready in fifteen minutes and that he was waving the repair fee. The "no charge due to customer satisfaction" on the receipt is welcomed and I do appreciate it. But the lack of an explanation or apology, added to the aggravation of poor communication and out right misleading communication - repeatedly, pretty much dissolved any trust that I had built up in this business. read more

Came here due to a low tire notification on both my front tires and to get my brakes checked out because they had been squeaking a bit when I apply them. I made a reservation online first thing in the morning and apparently that's when everyone goes. I was in no hurry so I didn't mind. The place was bright and open and not dark and scary as some service shops can be. The service advisors are friendly and welcoming. I was in and out of there in about an hour. My advisor said that they could find nothing wrong with my brakes and suspected that it was just dust and moisture causing it to squeal. The tech cleaned them up and inflated my front tires to the recommendation free of charge. I was very grateful and impressed. I would definitely consider them again if there's a problem. read more

No freebie here just ripped off. Not the same integrity as before. I would go some where else. They left my car in an unsafe condition and told me I needed services that I did not need. Thank GOD I went for second opinion. I went to have my tires balanced and rotated. After 3 plus hours they finally give me an estimate of the problems with my car. I called twice before picking up my car. Never did they say anything was wrong. When they were finally finished they game me an almost $700 estimate of what needed to be fixed. When I took my car for a second opinion, I found out that they had in fact actually lied to me based on the age of my car, not on the condition. Much less didn't tighten all the bolts. I Was looking for good inexpensive tires for My Benz I called and spoke to Joe and informed him I had an online quote he looked it up and said that he does not have the rear tires the rears on Mercedes are bigger than the front so I said I really did not want to mix and match , so he said give me a few hours to shop around for you I said fine but I would like to stay in the ball park of the quote . He said ok. So less than 24 hours he called me back and said he found 4 cheaper tires than the quote. Same quality tire cheaper price $55.00 cheaper are you friggin kidding me WHO DOES THAT ! Big Chief on Philips Highway = terrible terrible experience. I've been a customer of Big Chief Tire Company since 1985. I enjoyed dealing with the manager Steve Bennett who recently retired. Since Steve retired I guess I'm going to have to look for another business that is competent enough not to waste my time or money. Recently the brakes went out on my 2003 Suburban 1500. I called ahead to see if Big Chief could perform repairs because I had to have the vehicle towed since it had no brakes. I was told that they could do the repairs so I had the vehicle towed at my expense to Big Chief Tire. After they kept the vehicle overnight they told me that they could not perform the repairs because they would not be able to do something with the ABS brake system. They should have told me that in the beginning and save me the towing bill. I called a second repair shop to make sure they were capable of doing the repairs and then incurred the expense of a second toe to get to the next shop. The second repair shop was actually competent (a character quality that apparently Big Chief has lost). The second company completed the repairs and the brakes are now working good. It's very sad to see a business deteriorate that has been good in the past,... but I'm planning on purchasing future tires from one of the competitors after they pulled this boneheaded stunt. read more

I discovered that Steve has stepped down as the Manager which was disappointing although the staff seems to know what they were doing based on my observation of other customer's needs. I would recommend to schedule an appointment since they are very busy. I have been a customer for many years and find them to be very honest and are fair in their prices. A good shop is often based on the number of repeat customers which I encountered these many years of getting service done. I highly recommend this shop for all your tire needs. This company is A+++! They are a class act. Don't go to the corporate tire places that only want your money. Big chief tires wants to give you the best product that will last. They have amazing service. Make sure to get their protection plan- it is worth the money! If you bring the receipt in, they will fix any problem you have with the tire! I like this place better than Costco too! I always found that I waited forever with Costco and they didn't have a very good selection. I visited Big Chief Tire on June 30. I scheduled a 9am appointment for a brake inspection and was seen promptly. Upon handing over my keys, I was asked if I was dropping my car off or waiting. I very clearly stated I'd be waiting and sat in the lobby. Two and a half hours later, I was consulted that I would need brake pads and rotors and given the price. When I was asked how long this process would take, I was told an hour and a half to two hours. I ended up waiting four more hours. I was never once approached by any of the staff or given an update. I understand that businesses get busy and unforeseen situations arise, but after waiting three hours without even been approached, I asked for an update. Both staff members at the desk said they didn't even see me waiting in the lobby (again, I'd been sitting in there right in front of the desk since 9am) and that there was miscommunication because the shop didn't realize I was waiting on site for my vehicle. When I was finally called back to the desk upon completion of the brake service, I was offered no apology for the delay in service or having to wait for six and a half hours. In fact, I wasn't spoken to at all; I was simply told the price, paid it, and was silently handed my receipt. When I did get back to my vehicle, I had the pleasure of having to remove the dirty paper mats left by the mechanics. Overall, the brake service so far seems to have solved the problem I came in with. But, the lack of customer service or ownership of the time issue will keep me from returning to Big Chief Tire. read more

We purchased a set of tires about a year ago for my husbands Chevy 2500HD. We paid for the warranty and the road hazard. My husband has had to make multiple trips back because of leaking tires and was told they were fixed only to have to return days later with the same issue. One tire had to be replaced due to an unrepairable damage. Well this past Friday my husband had vibration start so he dropped the truck off. Per a text message he was informed that 3 out of the 4 tires were separating. This is occurring due to the fact that we were sold tires that are not rated for a heavy duty truck (all in text). Per the text message they offered to replace all 4 and charge us for the mount and balance $70 plus tax and we pay for the protection plan for new tires $95.04. My husband spoke to the gentleman at Chief this morning and he informed him that it will be $423 in addition the the $80. So at this point they will be charging us around $500. Confused as to how this could be since they recommended the brand new tires and they placed the tires on the truck and we paid for the warranty about a year ago that the total could be that much. The gentleman Charlie at the Phillips hwy location didn't want to take responsibility that his company made a mistake. We don't work in the tire industry and we rely on the "professionals" at a tire store to direct us in the purchasing of the correct tires. They even warrantied them. Come to find out they are trying to charge us $50 per tire since they drove for 30,000 miles. They recommended the tires that could have killed my family if they did separate on the highway. Not for nothing but my husband made a trip over 200 miles this past weekend pulling an over 9,000 pound trailer. Luckily he was borrowing a friends truck since ours was at the tire shop - blessing that my husband didn't chalk up the vibration as a balance issue and took it in. read more
