In my opinion I wouldn't let this shop work on my car or anything. They failed to resolve my problem and went off on a wild tangent replacing the wrong part. And charged $1,000 approximately over what they paid for it. My car broke down on the way home. read more

If you live in the Jacksonville area, please give Maxi Auto Repair in Hodges your business. This is a review for work that they did NOT perform on my car. I was in town for one day, and I needed some work done. I took it to Maxi because of their high rating. When I described my problem and the mechanic took a look, he couldn't guarantee same-day service. He suggested that, for what I needed, I would be more likely to get same-day service at another shop just down the road. You simply cannot put a price on that kind of integrity. Unfortunately, it is very unlikely that I would ever need auto service in Hodges again. So please do me a favor and give Maxi's some business. When we just moved here my husband and I could not get my license plate off- we drove by Maxis and asked them to help- at first a guy in the front said no, but on of the mechanics happened to be walking by and he said he had time and easily removed it- which we greatly appreciated. Shortly after I was informed by Vavoline there was a leak in my oil line- we took it to Maxis to have it checked out. They were super professional and helpful. Turned out I did not have a leak Vavoline just spilled oil. Pulling out I hit the curb and knocked something off the underneath of my car- they had me pull around and fixed it on the spot. The whole service took less than a day and they communicated super efficiently providing me numerous updates and text messages. They clearly explained the problem and or issues and the solution... Even though there was none they did not charge me an arm and a leg. The whole Service was $100 I was able to drop my car off at night as well. They texted me the following day to ensure I had great service. Will be back for all of my car needs. read more

I've owned by 2005 Madza MPV for many years. Mazda discontinued this van but we love its size and functionality. We took it to Maxi for a COMPLETE overhaul realizing that it would be pricey but cheaper than buying a new vehicle. We plan on keeping it for another 5+ years. It's our HOME DEPOT pick up mulch, haul dirt, plants and lumber vehicle. Because we had successfully used this facility multiple times before when it was STEWARTS on this same van, we decided to use MAXI. The estimate was pricey, but we expected that and was prepared for that for an A-Z overhaul. After a major delay in completing the repairs, we finally retrieved our van; it was running a bit rough as if the timing was not set properly. Nevertheless, we took it home, put it on the road hoping that it would smooth out. It drove horribly rough and vibrated. You could feel it while sitting in the car seat. Major disappointment. Returned it right away. Maxi asked for additional dollars to replace the radiator and other repairs they found. There was no issue with the radiator before and they did a root to toot overhaul. Did they not notice these "needed" repairs during the inspection? Asked them to replace the radiator at their cost; I had already spent well over $4000. NO GO!! Disputed it on our credit card but that was unsuccessful. We now have a car that is not safe or comfortable to drive. I wish I could give no stars. Neice took her car in also. WE WARNED HER NOT TO DO IT! After $2500 repair, her engine blew up, left her stranded on the side of the road, stowed to Maxi. They asked for $6000 in additional repair cost to replace the engine. Thursday afternoon I went it to this shops asking for a fuel filter change and explained that my car was accelerating slowly In first gear at high rpm then drives well after first gear. Earl asks why I'm changing the fuel filter and says they should look at it but says that he has no availability for that day and to come back tomorrow morning at 8. I come in and he says a diagnostic of the problem is 50 for 30 min and I agree and start to wait. He test drives it and comes back I hear him talking saying it's accelerating slow and the scans come up clean but that it could be a EGR VALVE. He also says he's never heard of that being the problem but processeds to say they are going to changge it and it will cost me 268.35 He stated it had to be ordered so I waited for 4 hours for the part to show up. I ask if it's here yet and he said yes they are starting now. Within 30 min I hear and see my car take off earl says they are driving it to see if it works and I wait maybe 20 more minutes. (After I was told it takes an hour too change part) .. The mechanic comes back and earl says the transmission is slipping in first and they DO NOT TOUCH TRANSMISSIONS!!!!! Put a receipt in my face, took my payment, and told me good luck. DIDNT TELL ME UNTIL AFTER I PAID that it was slipping but that's what I went in there for. I test drive the car back and the problem is still there nothing changed on my car!! Bad business to tell me after words that my car needs work that you don't do and you knew the issue all along! Did a service you didn't think would fix it. And you should have said you didn't touch it the entire time. I overall feel scammed and like I paid for something they knew they weren't fixing. read more

I came from out of state for the Thanksgiving holiday and my car failed me on the last few minutes of my drive. I feared the worst this far from my mechanic. I don't live around here and Stewards would not likely benefit from my return. Despite this, they treated me like family, with fairness and respect. We had an air-conditioning issue with our 27' RV. Steward Automotive agreed to take a look at it. Within an hour, they had charged the AC and found the problem why the AC compressor had failed to work. They were fast, courteous, and reasonably priced.
