Great price, great people, great service!! My move was done on a Tuesday in August and was completed between the hours of 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM moving from a one bedroom third floor with no elevator to a 2 bedroom 3rd floor with an elevator. I must say moving is one of the most stressful experiences, but Big City really came through and made it a breeze for me. Starting with obtaining the street/parking permits for me AND posting the signs 2 days in advance of the move, these guys didn't miss anything. I was a bit concerned as I lived in a third floor apartment in Boston with no elevator and twisting stairs on the way out. Now I don't have a LOT of stuff, but I did have 4 pieces of furniture that were (a) bulky (b) heavy and (c) extremely fragile, probably 35 boxes of stuff, 6 suitcases, and lots of random other crap. There was NO way I was going to be able to move all of this on my own, and had some sincere doubts about the ability to get those huge pieces out of the apartment without substantial damage (all were delivered to me with factory padding/protection still on). These guys did an AWESOME job wrapping them up and, even with the one hutch that must weigh at least 350 pounds of solid wood and glass that is 6 feet tall, these guys rocked! My entire move was completed in 6 hours from arrival including travel time between locations, and was entirely painless for me. NOTHING was broken, NOTHING was damaged, they came in UNDER their quote and they were nothing but pleasant the entire time. And all this at HALF of what was quoted to me by another local competitor. --- TIPS IF YOU USE THEM: Make sure you give them an ACCURATE listing of items in your apartment. It's really important so they get the staffing right; I was given this advice by a friend who had used them, and it turned out phenomenally. Make sure you mark boxes as fragile if there are fragile items. These guys really take extra care with such items to make sure nothing breaks. That isn't to say they're NOT careful with other items, but they made sure to go one box at a time with the fragile items. If you have a lot of large (2-man) items, it may be helpful to request a 4th person on your job. Though it may be a bit more expensive per hour, it can get slow when these items are being moved at the end and only two can be working at a time. Definitely worth mentioning upon booking (probably could have taken another hour off of my already-quick job). --- Let them know what your concerns are. There were a couple items I was particularly worried about, and all three of them worked to make sure the utmost care was taken. I did however forget to tell them that my poker chip case was broken and, I'm happy to say, the worst thing that happened the entire move was that all the poker chips spilled on the floor of my new place. Simply put, the best experience I have ever had with a moving company. I have always hated and dreaded moving. I have moved over 25 times in my life and most moves have been miserable. I have hired movers several times and most always have been disappointed or worse. I found Big City Moving through a co-worker of mine who had used them. She said that the service was excellent and the price was very fair. I was hesitant still, but I called for an estimate. I also called a few other companies. They were not the cheapest, but definitely one of the most affordable. Their website looked good and the guy on the phone, Phil was very helpful and thorough. He made me feel at ease, so I booked it. Move day arreived and I the crew showed up on time and ready to play. The worked very well as a team and took extra special care of my fragile and breakable stuff. They were joking with each other while they worked and seemed to actually be enjoying their job! Their positive attitude put us all in a good mood and before we knew it, it was over. They were very fast and efficient, yet they didn't rush or break anything. Everything made it up into my new place without a scratch and it took even less time than they had estimated. These guys didn't even stop for a break! The bill came and I was surprised because it was less than I had expected to pay. So I tipped them all well and told them I would recommend them to anyone. These guys moved me yesterday from andover to north andover. This is my first yelp review and i figured that since i found them on yelp i might as well write a review considering all the comments about them and other companies i checked out helped form my decision. I got quotes from other companies that were less but it took them forever to call me back. All i wanted was to speak to a live person and not wait for someone to read my online quote request and then get back to me. I think i spoke to a guy named matt and he was courteous and professional on the phone and explained what i would be paying. The one thing that helped i believe is i tried to be as accurate as possible to them about what i was moving as i read in some other reviews about people (and the moving companies) having horror show experiences because what they were moving was actually more than what they told the moving company. On moving day, someone from their company called me and said they would be an hour late. I was initaly a little put off and was foreseeing issues to come. But they showed up when they said they would and were quick to pack and go. I had my dad supervising as i couldn't get out of work and he was very pleased with the 3 workers skills and work ethic. Overall, i'm glad i chose big city moving and will definitely recommend them to anyone i know that is moving. read more

I hired Big City Moving to help me with my local move from Brookline to Somerville. After shopping around for prices online, I was a bit amazed at what some of these companies were charging. This lead me to ask around at work to see if anyone could recommend a mover. A co-worker referred me to where Big City Moving. I looked them up and called the number on the website. A friendly gentleman named Phil answered the phone and gave me a an estimate. He took the time to explain everything in detail and answered all of my (silly) questions. Move day came and the movers were right on time. They moved very swiftly. Wrapping up all of my nice pieces and working quite well with one another. They completed the job in less time than I could have thought possible. Which made me VERY happy ;) The price was very fair. I eagerly tipped the guys for there excellent service. I hate moving, but Big City Moving made it pretty painless this time. I will definitely use them again if do move. (hopefully not for a while!). read more

Beware: you get what you pay for sometimes; they are inexpensive as they are terrible movers. The damage they did to multiple items as well as our new apartment was five times as much as hiring a more expensive company. Shame on us for thinking they were too good to be true--they delivered items to the wrong house, they destroyed valuable items, they damaged our floors and walls, and they refused to even admit their mistakes -- never mind apologize or take responsibility for any of it. They lied and blamed everything but their own incompetency. When speaking with the woman whom they delivered part of my order to (who was kind enough to track us down and get our stuff to us!) She said she would gladly pay 10 times more to avoid using them ever again. Apparently they destroyed irreplaceable pieces she'd inherited from her family before emigrating to the US. Moving is stressful enough--add their incompetence on top and it's just a nightmare. Save yourself and avoid them at all cost!! read more

Big City Moving Company was great! They took my request for June 1 on two weeks notice to move from Plymouth to Boston when everyone else but one told me no. There rate was perfectly in my budget. Extremely friendly. On move day, they were running late but let me know about it, so I was panicking. They started moving boxes right away and were on a roll until my queen box spring slowed them down, but they were able to get the job done! When we got to the location they were just as good, took a little more time to get the boxes in (on the third floor with no elevator) but Matt and Dan were great! Super nice and fun and even Dan threw out a "Being John Malkovich" reference, which I thoroughly approved of. They were super positive and hard working. Highly, highly highly reccomend! read more

These guys were GREAT! I was referred to them by another company & I was so satisfied. They were on time, very gracious, & really went above and beyond. We live in a 4th floor walk up. They moved all our furniture super quickly. They were super careful with everything. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to anybody. The price was right - I can't remember the exact amount but it was super competitive with the other places I called. Quite frankly, it would've been worth paying more for. I've paid way more for moving expenses & it wasn't nearly as good of an experience or as good for my stuff. Plus, seriously, it's worth paying somebody to do the "heavy lifting" for you. read more

Great help. Efficient and very careful. I came from overseas and in between getting my job and location taken care of I put all my cross-atlantic belongings from a container and into a storage unit. Then later I moved them from the storage unit to an ABF trailer. Granted it was an easy move (container to storage unit, storage unit to ABF) but I was very happy with Big City Moving. Very, very efficient, careful and also nice guys who were considerate and listened to my wishes and questions. I have used these guys three times in the last 12 months - most recently on September 2, 2012 ( a crazy busy day) -- each time they have been fantastic. Their phone and office staff are quick and efficient, they have moved me cheerfully and carefully and at a very fair price. I have had a different crew of two men each time - and they've all been great. They work hard and each of my moves was accomplished in their three hour minimum - they hustled. Once, when a couch simply would NOT go up the stairs, they arranged for a "hoist" (thru an upstairs window) on the spot - at a very reasonable extra charge. I had a big move that required travel to 3 different locations across MA but Matt and his team made this move as easy as it could be. They showed up on time and moved quickly and efficiently without a drop in quality. I knew everything was in good hands and would make it to the final destination undamaged based on the level of detail and care the team put into moving. I was initially hesitant to hire a moving company during the COVID-19 pandemic but Matt and his team showed up and were respectful and cautious - each of the workers wore a mask at all times and they used hand sanitizer regularly. Big City Moving is great! I can't say enough good things about how satisfied I am with their service. The movers were prompt and did a fantastic job of squeezing my belongings up a tight winding staircase. They took extra care with the fragile items and amazingly did it in record time. Used this company for our move again and wasn't disappointed. Once again had Jerome and two different guys, Keith and Mike moving us. They showed up on time and got us out of our condo quickly and efficiently. When we arrived at the new place the elevators were being used by another moving company so instead of competing for elevator usage they unloaded all of our things and hauled it up a flight of stairs. They never once complained and got us into our new place quickly. Such a friendly, pleasant group of guys and so hard working. Love working with this company. I heart Big City Moving! I used them last year for my move and they did a fantastic job, so this year when it was time to move from the North End to the West End I called them again. Mike and Randy were so fast, and so super nice to deal with (also truly adorable). They got everything done in two hours, which was unbelievable since they had to get a huge couch down a north end staircase (super narrow). Big City Moving is awesome! My husband and I used them for the first time, recently and they were great! They showed up on time, the guys were great, funny, personable, and very helpful. We had some challenging situations (tight spaces and narrow doorways, etc.) and they knew exactly what to do. This is my 2nd time using Big City Moving, and again, the service provided was excellent. Matt and his team were prompt, professional, pleasant, and conscientious. They took extra care with my possessions, and though they worked quickly (which is a good thing) I never felt that they were rushing the job, or careless with my property. Stress-free moving at an affordable rate -- these guys are the best! They moved me from the North End (5th floor walk-up) to Cambridge. They were quick and careful and nothing was damaged. Phil explained every detail of the move and even recommended how many boxes and what sizes - he was extremely accurate and the prices were cheaper than local packing stores. They even delivered the moving supplies to my apartment for free which was a HUGE help since I don't have a car. I will definitely hire them for any future moves. read more
