Met a buddy in Columbia for beer and in our discussion, we started taking wine, from Paso Robles to Maryland. He told me Maryland specialized in Cabernet Franc and Viognier and I knew nothing about Big Cork prior to arrival, but dad it was named as a top 10 tasting room by USA Today. Bold claim, especially coming from California. It was an absolutely beautiful day to visit Big Cory on Sunday. U called to confirm I didn't need a reservation, was told I didn't. That was nice, so I continued my drive to the winery, following three other vehicles that turned into the winery grounds. Ample parking, stunning grounds and views of the surrounding area. A big white building with a surround patio greeted me as I walked in, taking in the ambiance of the place. It was busy with patrons sitting outside, standing at mo sitting at the bar. I was greeted by an English chap, names Andy who said he works be right with me. Gave me a few minutes to look around and take in the experience. Andy greeted me and told me to grab any seat. Told him o was new to Maryland wine, as it was my first time at any winery outside of Paso Robles. I guts my expectations were high but I dialed them back as I ordered my tasting flight. Not a big white fan, I was impressed I'm with their Chardonnay, not buttery like the California. It was light, crisp and fruity. A very well done white. In fact I enjoyed it more than the Sauvignon Blanc, which if drinking a white I usually lean towards. Found this a bit too sweet. On to the reds, which is what I was reliably looking forward to. Andy took time to explain each wine, some characteristics and processes behind each glass. Their Meritage, a red blend was okay but was missing something for my liking. I did however enjoy the Cab Franc as single varietal. Never got to the Siberian Ice but was treated to the Syrah, Nebbiolo and Black Label Malbec. Those last two tasting were wonderful. My tastings done, I ordered a glass of the Rose Brut as I took care of Andy and my bill. I did walk out with a bottle of Chardonnay and Cab Franc. Overall a wonderful tasting with some good wines. Worth checking out but being from Paso I'm not going out of my way to find East Coast wines. I know what my palate enjoys but a little change now and then can be a good thing. After hearing and reading the reviews of this place I had high expectations...my hunbun surprised me with a Saturday reservation here. Once I learned where we were going I was sooooooo excited!! Anyhoo- about an hour and a half away- we ventured here on a sunny Saturday afternoon. I really don't like going out on Valentine's Day. Everything's usually overpriced and restaurants are crazy busy...I honestly prefer just to stay at home but my hunnie had other plans for us hahaha! Despite the snow that's still lingering, turned out to be a perfect day for a winery adventure. Beautiful scenic views of the mountains, a playlist of Teena Marie, Sade and auntie Nita was definitely giving amazing vibes...the company of my Superman...just a perfect day! We had a reservation which is recommended. Our reservation was in the heated tent, outside area where they had live entertainment and he was pretty good! Sang a variety of selections. What I didn't like was there was no wait staff. I guess EARLY Mountain spoiled me! Hahaaaa!! I was expecting the same kind of experience here- but nonetheless we had to place our orders at the bar & pretty much wait on ourselves lol Typically-I was told they offered cheese and fruit plates- but today they didn't....:/( They did have a selection of cheese, crackers, olives if you wanted to create a board of your own... They also have a cigar area and offered cigars if that's your jam... Also noted in some areas they allow for you to bring your pets... On to the flights- wanted to try a few before deciding on a bottle so I went with the dry white option and my boo thang opted for the sweet options. The flights include a selection of 3 wines for $22...I was ok with just my 3 and my love actually enjoyed the port dessert wine which was the third tasting on his flight so I purchased a bottle for him. Appreciated the pizza Big Cork offered. We shared a pizza and ordered some fries from the food truck that was on the grounds. Would I venture back here NOPE! The new outdoor patio area is beautiful! I've bought bottles of their wine before so already knew that would be amazing, but loved trying new ones. We really enjoyed the sampling of the dessert port wine. Pizza was good and tasted very fresh. Dog friendly and the GM came over to introduce himself and was a wonderful person to interact with. 10/10 will return. read more

I stopped by Big Cork Vineyards on my from Antietam to Frederick a couple of weekends ago when I was in the area. I did a tasting at the bar, which was quite fun (I think I tried 6+ of their wines - their very friendly staff were definitely willing to pour things off the tasting menu if you were curious about something). They do have some sweet wines, which isn't to everyone's preference, but they make enough wines that there's probably something for everyone (I went home with a bottle of blanc de blancs and a bottle of sparkling rose). The property is really the gem of Big Cork Vineyards though. It's gorgeous: the buildings, the rolling hills, the vines... It's a very beautiful winery, with great views from the outside patio. Overall, I had a nice experience here. If I lived closer, I'm sure I'd be there on occasion - especially on a pretty day! read more

We enjoyed our visit at Big Cork Vineyards. The vineyard was absolutely beautiful and the tasting room and staff were welcoming. I especially loved the reds here; the red tasting flight was a standout and definitely more memorable for me than the whites (though the whites were still enjoyable). Many of the wines are estate grown, which adds to the sense of place and care you can taste. What makes this spot even better is how inclusive it feels. It's both kid-friendly and dog-friendly. I'd be here much more often if it wasn't about an hour's drive away--but the views, the wine, and the atmosphere are always worth the trip. So I'm late to reviewing this lovely vineyard with breathtakingly gorgeous views! I've been here a few times and I've been blown away from the views. The last time I visited, the sunflower patch was absolutely stunning! I had never seen so many beautiful sunflowers in one place ! On to the venue. I love the winery. It boasts a large indoor bar area where wine tastings take place, and an area where you can buy ice pops, and Big Cork branded items. The outdoor area is where the magic happens! There's a main area which is covered and I believe must be reserved in advance. There is also a separate and seemingly private covered area which is lovely for a private event. Otherwise, basking in the open space area is another option while enjoying a few glasses or bottles of wine among friends. Lovely! read more

Big Cork is a colossal space, with a white-dominant, modern interior and views of the countryside that are bucolic and relaxing. It's an example of minimalist design done well. The first time that I walked in, I was taken aback -- it's a sensory experience to a certain extent. The wine-tasting area and restaurant are all rolled into one. A long bar in the middle of things is snowy white and seems to stretch out endlessly. The staff is welcoming and knowledgeable about wine and Big Cork's viticulture -- a plus. Big Cork grows Petite Verdot, a red grape used in classic Bordeaux blends and one that I'm crazy about. Am happy to now have a source so close. I'm told their Petite Verdot has won a fair number of awards. Another one of their wines that's light and bright is Russian Kiss. This white wine brims with pear and citrus high notes, complementary earthy undertones and crisp finish. Rohrersville is a bit of a drive for me, living in DC. But one that I will gladly make. read more

We visited Big Cork on Saturday with a group of 14. Unfortunately, the weather was much colder and windier than we expected, and there was no space available inside. At that point it was also difficult to find another place for such a large group. Thankfully, Meghan from the Big Cork team truly made our day! She was incredibly kind, patient, and went above and beyond to help us with everything we needed. Thanks to her, we still had a wonderful time. We are very grateful for her help. We really liked Big Cork and look forward to coming back again when the weather gets warmer. read more

I have been to many event space wineries and have been underwhelmed with their wine however this place blew me away. Every wine we tasted was exceptional, most being estate grown. The winemaker clearly knows what he is doing. The young lady pouring the wine at the bar was very knowledgeable and efficient taking care of multiple customers at one time but not making anyone feel rushed. After our tasting we walked around the grounds. There is a lot of seating, they have a huge heated tent space for even more seating which I'm guessing might be opened in warmer months. A nice touch was a water cooler outside where we were able to hydrate after our walk around. They offer a refrigerator filled with meats and cheeses you can purchase to go with your wine. Plenty of parking and it looks like they offer events in their barrel room as we could see tables and chairs set up in there. I highly recommend this winery!!! read more

Talk about good wine and great views. Recently paid them a visit as part of a private group for a tasting. They gave us a variety of flavors to taste. From Chardonnay to blanc de blanc, they had us all covered. We tried about 6-7 wines. They did have wine for sale if you'd like a few bottles to go. Prices ranged from 25 on up. They had many specialty flavors that all sounds delicious. Unfortunately time was not on my side. But it does give me a reason to come back! In addition to private tastings, the winery does have a chic tasting area where public tastings are open to all who visit. They also have spacious outside seating if you'd like to enjoy your wine and take in the view. While here I gnoshed on the most amazing French baguette from their market area. It was still warm! I paired it with some decently priced prosciutto. They do offer other bites to eat on site such as fresh made pizzas. I'll definitely be back for another visit. read more

This was my first time visiting this vineyard, and I cannot wait to return! It's such a beautiful drive out to the property, particularly now that it's autumn. I was actually there to attend a private event, but I loved the tasting room. The wine was amazing! I had the Sauv Blanc and Russian Kiss and I love them! We stopped at Big Cork based on timing and convenience, and I'm very happy we did. A lucky chance, as we thought it was fantastic. My friend thought they were a 4.99, because they are so far away from us in Michigan. She in particular appreciated the selection of drier wines. I was impressed that I enjoyed both their red, white, and bubbly. Their bottles are a bit more pricey, but the quality is there. We started with a wine tasting at the bar. Deanna was phenomenal. She was knowledgeable and personable, wonderful representation of the winery. Olanda was also lovely in assisting us. They really made our trip to the winery perfect. After selecting a glass and some bottles to take home, we took the glasses out to the screened, covered patio. Cork has a large patio space as well as some lawn furniture. We brought snacks, they allow you to bring your own food outside, but they also had a food truck with pizza. Plenty of space to relax and enjoy the view, just as good as the wine! There were a couple of events happening the day we were there, definitely a good place to celebrate. This winery may be a bit out of the way, but is completely worth the trip! read more

We went to Big Cork for perhaps the 3rd or 4th time this weekend after a winter hike in Harpers Ferry, which is about 10 min away. The venue itself is just beautiful and I always feel so fancy there! We had some charcuterie and a bottle of their 2020 Meritage and the most amazing loaf of their fresh baked bread. I hadn't seen any baguettes out, but I asked and they were happy to put some in the oven- so make sure you do this as it's soooooooo good! We sat with our pup in the heated tent and enjoyed a quiet happy hour of vista views and Holiday music! It was just lovely. I do really with they did flights (I just don't like to have to make up my mind on a glass!), I also wish they allowed for bottle picking within their club... but outside of this (which is super minimal and easy to overlook!) I HIGHLY recommend this spot. It's beautiful, accommodating and they have really great wine. They have a fantastic meat/cheese selection and are now offering pizza- you really can't go wrong! read more

Located in Washington County, Maryland and ranked number 8 in the top 10 tasting rooms in America - pretty impressive!! I recently celebrated my birthday weekend here with family! My cousin suggested it and I'm so glad we visited. The place is absolutely gorgeous - lots of IG worthy pics here forsure!! It's huge and they have lots of weddings here!! We had a reservation for 6 people! We arrived and went into the tasting room. They pre-select the wines for the tasting but since it was my birthday, I was allowed to choose one additional one. I chose the cabernet franc and it was my fave! The rose was pretty good too! The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable! Kudos to them! We sat at a table outside and enjoyed a few bottles! Used to belong to the wine club, in fact 5 members of my family joined. Today non are. We don't drink or like whites. Half the selection was whites. Gifting was tough. Eventually we woke up and said no more. I'd have rather paid a premium for what I want. I took out of town relatives. We decided on a tasting to start. Beautiful winery with a nice delicious refreshing white wine that I truly enjoyed. I ordered a bottle of the Russian Kiss, which is Big Cork Vineyards best selling wine which was relatively inexpensive. It definitely was light and refreshing. Beautiful views and fun live music. Its also very family friendly and lots of open seating on the patio. There's even indoor seating and a store with a wine tasting section. You can either bring your own snacks or even purchase cheese, snacks, fresh baguettes from their own store. My sisters and I were searching for a midpoint for us to meet up from central PA, Stafford, VA and Crofton, MD, and we stmbled upon a gem at Big Cork! We reserved a wine tasting for the 3 of us and pre-paid online. We arrived and the property and views were breath taking! The building is modern and uses a crisp white and black decor with wood undertones. It was decorated beautifully for Christmas! The margarita pizza and apple pie calzone we ordered from was made with fresh ingredients and was very favor full! We loved that the Venue offers indoor, outdoor and heated indoor/outdoor seating! I have somewhat mixed feelings on this winery. On the positive side, the location is beautiful and feels more like a spa or resort than a winery. The interior is modern and sleek, the outside is beautifully maintained. There are food trucks offering handhelds and some tasty options. The wine is very good, balanced, flavorful, consistent across the board. You could try 10 different wines and have an excuse to buy a bottle of most of them. But the experience is almost too corporate. It feels like it wants to be a Beverly Hill boutique - right down to the prices and certain snootiness exhibited by quite a few staff members. They're not necessarily the most inviting. You feel like you're bothering them or that you need to make an appointment with a secretary to plan your experience. Don't get me wrong, it's a good quality wine. But it's not on that amazing next level that would influence that kind of approach. To be honest, it comes across as uppity. And having experienced the real deals elsewhere, and not seen that approach, it can detract from the experience. Having said all that, Big Cork definitely feels like the a must-visit location when you're in the crossroads of the Maryland/Virginia/West Virginia wine country and I have to recommend you give it a shot. read more

It was suggested to us by a local after Kayaking at Antietam Creek to visit Big Cork Vineyards for some amazing wine and breathtaking views and I'm so happy we listened. Big Cork had it all, great service, knowledgeable staff with suggestions, live music, and spacious seating so that their guests didn't have to be too close to anyone else due to Covid. They also have a field area where you can bring your own chairs, blankets, and tents and enjoy your wine & also have indoor seating. Me personally? I chose to sit outdoors. The weather was just right and there's something about being able to look to the right and see beautiful mountain views that just relaxed us even further. As for the wines? We had two bottles, a Rosé and a Malbec that were delicious and reasonably priced. We are coming back to Antietam to kayak in a week and i will definitely be visiting Big Cork again. read more

Big Cork is my favorite vineyard in the DMV. It reminds me of California Vineyards with the chic aesthetics and the rolling green hills. I've been back a few times and the wines never cease to amaze me. I love all of their whites (especially the sauv and their semi sweet ones). The rose here is on the slightly sweeter side also, so my perfect cup of tea! What's more, the owner Jen, is an absolute doll and so so sweet. For COVID they are socially distancing in the grass and you can bring your own blankets. They also have a few tables and seats set up distanced. Bring your own glasses or cups during COVID (although you can purchase at the vineyard too)!! Don't forget your masks! You need them to go inside for... the bathroom. We had a tasting and all the wines tasted amazing--I ended up getting a bottle (very tempted to get more but I do have too much wine at home). Staff was also super friendly. Their baguette is sooo good and their pizza was good too! Loved the live music and overall ambiance there. Came to MD for a weekend getaway with my best friend. We decided to stop here after reading other great reviews and we weren't disappointed! Beautiful, modern establishment with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. This is definitely an upscale winery as you can tell by their lighting, velvet and leather lounge chairs, decorative walls, and added elements of corks. I thought their name was creative and loved that they incorporated it into their decor by having barstools made out of jumbo corks. Super unique! The only reason I gave 4 stars was because there were TONS of spotted red lanternflys everywhere. It was so bad that we had to move inside. I noticed a lot of guests were rushing to drink their wine because they too were bothered by them. I know that their an invasive species and probably common in that area, especially during the cooler months but you would think the winery would have some type of netting or would have done a bug treatment to their lawns. Guests were stepping on them left and right, some even plucking them out of their hair. read more

So we went back and was approached but a couple in the parking lot asking a lot of questions like who was driving, whose car was it and our last names... Later that day we realized they were detectives and trying to get us on something.. Really put a damper on things.. One of my favorite wineries in MD. Great location right off the highway and not far from Moco. With current Covid conditions they do allow you to bring tables and outside food. Max 6 people per table and tables have to be 6 feet apart. Views here are great especially during the fall season. The have a large grass seating area and also tables with cover from the sun as well. I came here on a busy Saturday and the place was completely packed by 2 PM. Its best to come here earlier and try to claim your spot. The indoor area still has wine tours if you book in advance, but no wine tasting at this time. Highly recommend packing food, bringing your lawn chairs and tryto get here early on the weekends. Parking is very easy to find and this vineyard takes Covid seriously with sanitizers and masks worn by the entire staff. Great selection of wines and I love their Merlots and cabernets read more

I'm the area to visit friends & came here. We live in NE Ohio with a plethora of wineries so I'm going to try & not compare. They do not have food per say but I did see a can of sardines by the register. We were able to bring our own antipasti yummies. They have tables inside & out with soft seating & tables outside also. The grounds are beautiful with views of hills & grapevines. We had a Chardonnay & Meritage. Both were good. we thought the wine was pricy @ $30+ a bottle. There was an acoustic guitar player that was good. Nice place to chill on an afternoon. -1 star for no real food. read more

I came here for a wine tasting with a couple of friends for the first time and we were impressed by the gorgeous grounds here. First, there is a cute little sunflower patch to greet you right as you pull in and a decent amount of parking space. The outdoor space is so welcoming and well-kept and a staff member greeted us right at the stairs before we went inside for the tasting. The interior is just as beautiful. It's a pretty large space-- very chic, modern, and clean. We got seated at the bar for our tasting and while I wasn't quite 6 feet from my neighbor, the seats are relatively spaced out and my friends and I just scooched in a little closer together. All in all, I think they are controlling the space fairly well with what they've got and I felt comfortable sitting there with my mask off. For the tasting, we each got a little menu card with space to take notes, a bottle of water, and a cute stemless glass to keep. The server talked us through the 6 wines we tasted as well as a bonus based on what she thought we might like. I'll admit, while I'm usually a red wine drinker I actually much preferred the whites here which were light, crisp and refreshing (I took home a bottle of their chardonnay). The reds were quite spicy and woody. If you're looking for something sweet, the ice wines are delicious! All in all, Big Cork had that classy upscale atmosphere we were looking for in a fun girl's day out. I'm very happy that we drove out to give it a go. It was well worth the trip! read more
