There was a screen that projected a montage of photos of club attendees from previous events with the occasional Daft Punk robot picture mixed in. Other than the occasional photo, I found the house and electronic music non-existent on Daft Punk v. Crystal Castles night. There was some dancing, but the Flyway photographers regularly interrupted it to snap photos of people posing as if they were having fun. One star for trying too hard in ironic and sad fashion.

This year we got the usual great lineup but instead of the DIY style show in a parking lot, Professor Vic moved it to the Cathedral. Located right off Garey, The Cathedral is tough to miss. There's plenty of street parking on Center St and there's also a small parking lot across the street. This used to be a YMCA but it looks like an old church with dark wood flooring, high ceilings and stained glass windows. A very cool venue. How did it sound? Loud. Extremely loud. They also had a huge video board which gave each band a little extra hot sauce. There were a couple of bars in the back and you could also order food. It's air conditioned in there but between the heat (100+ outside at the time) and the amount of bodies inside, it was at least bearable. Mosh for Youth was great as always and while I loved the DIY ethos in the past this felt like a leap forward. The sound, look and venue made this feel big time. I hope future MFY shows take place here...until they maybe outgrow this place too, which would mean more scholarships for the kids. Highly recommended!

We get wristbands and assigned a table. We were told to wait in another line but we were let in shortly after. We bypass the 80's bar and go to a back room to make it feel like a "speakeasy." They gave us some ground rules and led us to our tables. At the table you have a QR code where you can place drink orders. The bar brings out your drinks to the table. Service was fairly quick and friendly. The drinks were all sweet cocktails and in the "Matterhorn Lodge" theme. There is a 2 drink minimum purchase (per guest) and each drink is $20+ so it can add up. I'm more of a beer person but some of the drinks were delicious. There was one that tasted like Christmas morning (cinnamon, clove, milky) and another drink that had popping boba that was also fun. If you're a butterfinger or peanut butter fan, there was one drink that tasted like it (you'll see it on the drink menu). I wouldn't say the drinks were strong. They do a good job of enforcing the theme. They had a "Yeti" come out and interact with the tables. Good for photo ops. They also had a magician doing a few tricks, and I enjoyed that the most. When you walk into a dedicated speakeasy, you expect carefully crafted, balanced drinks with some depth and fresh ingredients. Instead, the cocktails felt a little rushed, overly sweet, and missing the refined craft you look for in a place like this. For the price tag on the menu, the execution just fell flat. The staff was friendly enough and the novelty factor is definitely there, but the drinks missed the mark. I'm glad I checked it out to see what the buzz was about, but since the cocktail quality didn't match the cool environment, I don't see myself heading back anytime soon. Solid three stars for the aesthetic alone.
