We have passed this place many times on our family trip to Knobles. We finally made it. I think my expectations we high because it was a bit of a let down. We went on on Thursday at 4:30 pm and they were out of the chicken and sausage. That was ok, we were going for the brisket. I give the brisket itself . It was very good. Nice smoke, there was enough fatty and lean in the mix. However that's where it ends. I was so disappointed in the sides. I though I would get actual fresh made kettle chips, they were a bag of chips. My second side was potato salad, again, I though it would be homemade. It was not. It was the same store bought potato salad we had in our RV fridge. I think the brand is Reser's. My husband got a bowl with brisket baked beans and mac & cheese. Its not in a bowl, its in a paper boat that you usually find french fries in. He said the same as me, brisket was good but the sides were sub-par. The bowl was a mess because it wasn't an actual bowl. Go for the meat. Take it home and make your own sides. We spend 40 bucks and that's a lot for just brisket. 2 more pluses.. staff was great, very pleasant, and the fountain soda was really good. read more

Upon entering the country store I was swept away by the smell of warm pecans! I felt like I was taken back in time! So many nostalgic things! Well I made my way to Big Dan's in the back upstairs! I'm a recent transplant to PA and have been dying for some good bbq! Big Dan's didn't disappoint! The people were so friendly! The food came out quickly and was good! This may be a weekend regular! The brisket was by far the best I have had in Northeast PA. Very tender and no fat! Sauces were awesome. Yum, yum, yum! We stopped by for lunch and we got such a delicious treat! Our catering event went to well last year, we couldn't wait to try the location at the farm market! We had a party of 8 people and Dan and his crew took care of us! Between us all, we had everything off of the menu! Pulled pork, brisket, Cole slaw, amazing Mac and cheese, hot dogs and the refreshing sweet tea. The tables in the shade were perfect for enjoying our meal! Woohoo! As good as it gets! is a perfect description of Big Dan's BBQ. I usually stay in my comfort level with what I know and go w/ the Brisket, which hands down is some of the tastiest I have ever had! Today we switched it up a bit, went with a full rack of ribs, pulled chicken, Mac&Jac, BBQ Beans and Slaw.... Ohhh My! Truely amazing Que! We did have to bring the food home and re-heated it in the kitchen. I put Sweet Baby Ray's Honey BBQ on half of the rack of ribs and then I put a "Little Kick" BBQ Sauce on the other half from the Legendary 17th Street BBQ that I had ordered from Murphysboro, IL. We are doing the BBQ run sponsored by the PA. Pork commission and this was our 6th stop . We arrived today which is a Saturday at 330pm. We saw their Facebook page telling ppl to visit and we're excited being part of the BBq run. When we arrived we were greated at the register by a young girl that was obviously not happy to be there.We were surprised when she said ...we only have pulled chicken and ribs. No brisket...chicken other then pulled on a sandwich. . no pulled pork... THE WHOLE reason why you are on the BBq run is PORK . So we got the ribs and chicken sandwich and Mac and cheese. before I get to the food...we were given a beyond flimsy plastic fork and that's it.....when we asked about a knife they said they were out. How did they expect to cut the ribs? Any way we went to the 2 young kids who gave us our order and they found 2 plastic knives ...not in plastic . So now the food. The ribs were good. I can't complain. They were meaty and tasty without adding sauce. The chicken on the sandwich was beyond dry. The Mac and cheese would have been pretty good but undercooked and the cheese was gritty. It probably needed another 5 minutes. I will say it again. These owners that have young kids run their place get exactly what you would expect. Lackluster quality and service. I would not go back for that exact reason. When we were leaving it looked like were taking the sold out signed next to most of the options . I am not sure if they were then available but if that was the case why would it not be told to us....like in 20 minutes we will have a few more options. Either way ...we drove 1/1/2 hours to try your BBq and it was nothing like you advertised. So if you are local or close it may be a place to give a try but if you are driving out of your way it would be best to call first and ask the BBq place if they will have bbq that day ahead of time. read more

Took a shot at having BIg Dan's cater our family reunion. To say we were not disappointed is an understatement. The food was absolutely, out of this world, crazy good, delicious! Even the corn bread! Couldn't have asked for a better experience with BIg Dan's. Super friendly too! We will definitely use them again next year for the reunion.
