My husband and I are people of color, and unfortunately, we couldn't help but feel like we were being treated differently because of our skin color. We sat at the bar for about 20 minutes before finally ordering one drink. Shortly afterward, the bartender announced last call. He also closed out our tab without ever asking if we wanted to keep it open. We tried getting his attention again and waited another 15 minutes. When he finally acknowledged us, he said he'd be right with us, but continued serving the local customers. He eventually served everyone who was local and then told us the bar was closed. When I questioned the situation, he cursed at me and said I should have "fucking came earlier" because he was "fucking busy." At that point, it was extremely difficult not to feel like we were being treated differently because we were people of color and not locals. I understand that bartenders get busy, but the difference in how we were treated compared with the local customers was very noticeable. The only positive thing I can say is that the locals themselves seemed welcoming. It's just unfortunate because we have family and friends in the area, and to visit somewhere in a community where we have connections, only to leave feeling disrespected, uncomfortable, and unwelcome, was incredibly disappointing. No one should have to feel like they don't belong somewhere simply because they aren't a local. And regardless of whether someone is a regular or a first-time customer, everyone deserves to be treated with basic courtesy and respect.

During both of my visits to Beer Bellies I was treated to the comedic stylings of James "The Wingman" Holeva. Billed as "the bad boy of comedy," Holeva's politically incorrect routine is reminiscent of Lenny Bruce or vintage Andrew Dice Clay. Beer Bellies earns high marks for their entertainment. After the comedian's set was over a DJ began playing dance hits and continued spinning until last call.
