What a wonderful hidden gem of a business! This is right off Shaenfield and 1604 and totally worth coming by! There are 4 picnic tables outside and about 6-8 tables inside plus a bar top so it's a small little place, but totally worth the trip. We were greeted right away by a kind bartender that offered me a few samples since I wasn't sure if I wanted a kolsch or Hefeweizen. I ended up with 3 samples and was sold the second I tried all three - there was no wrong choice on that end. I'm not a hoppy beer person or even much more than a Pilsner drinker .. y'all can keep the stouts, IPA and pale ale beers :) The selection was pretty large and there are a couple of local beers available as well which was awesome since I love to support local businesses. They have a few posters for trivia and "singo" near the door so it seems like they have great ways to get involved and draw customers in to the store. The only downfall is that they don't have snacks, BUT there's a pizza place next door and Big Hops allow outside food in so the temptation to order a pizza and drink beer here all night is definitely there! Went on a Saturday afternoon, and it was slightly busy but not crowded. A variety of people in attendance; even a couple of families with kids at that time of day. Stopped by for a beer while waiting for a table at a nearby restaurant. They have a good selection of beer and even have cider and mead. If you're in need of a snack, they sell pretzels and popcorn. The one thing that really stood out when we walked in is how clean this place was. The beer selection was good however I felt like the bar tender could have done a better job guiding us. One beer we ordered was a stout but crazy sweet (so much so that we didn't finish). That's something that really should be mentioned since it's not something you'd expect. They have some typical snacks you can purchase and seem to have a friendship with Stouts next door. We came here on a Saturday night and it was very chill. Maybe 4 other customers at most. Big Hops across SA are great but this one is our favorite. Helpful staff, great beer - what could be better? Though the music tends to be a little loud to have conversation. They have events most every day too - happy hour, trivia night, etc. No food here but they are totally cool with bringing in food to enjoy with more than 30 seasonal taps. Lots of TVs too and outdoor seating for those rare perfect SA days. Board games and cards too. Overall great place! read more

What an awesome little bar. We have gone there several times on Weds. night for trivia and always enjoy it. The beers are not necessarily my type as they are more IPA style but, the super nice bartenders always try to find one I will like, with a smile).We are always treated as if we matter, and they enjoy serving people. My friend and I decided to check out Big Hoops on Shanefield. Their location is quaint, and very welcoming. They have 4 other locations in San Antonio. I thought they been open for a while now, however this was their 3rd day of being open. As a celebratory post opening, we offer chocolate cake. Such a nice detail. We the only customers in there, but I bet once word gets out it will be very busy. Daniel and Maryla (?) were exceptional & great customer service!!! We will definitely be back because of them. I had a Austin Eastcider Blood Orange & my friend stuck to the IPA route. Everything was reasonable priced, and in the future they are supposed weekly specials. Quiet but great beer options if you are one of those loner beer drinkers such as I sometimes..but who isn't right..right? This is one of those places you can take an edition of the current and read it with a tall pint of beer. There beer options are endless, they have an app, they scroll across a TV, there is a TV. Firts time on this location, the beer was good, service wasn't the best my husband went to this place to have some to go beer but after serving the beer on each bottle the lady claimed the bottles were 32 oz when the bottles are 16 oz, I have the box and everything that proofs the I'm right even though because they were already served they came on $126 dlls!!! read more

This is my favorite location out of all the Big Hop locations, not just because it's super close to my house but the guest service is phenomenal! Not only are the beer connoisseur knowledgeable but the have a great sense of humor and easy going. I never feel rushed and they give great descriptions of the brews. I chose their flight which is $9 for 4 options. I chose mostly IPAs but not sure what the exact ones I tried but everything was so good and I've been several times after this they always have opportunities to grab a free glassware with purchase of beer of course! The location is so convenient and I love their beer options. I will be going here any chance I get to get my IPA fix and to try some new options! read more

This is the best thing on this side Of town when it comes to beer. I personally love the location because it's right behind my apartment I can walk there. The staff is super chill and very knowledgeable on what they have on tap. I always get a warm greeting when I come in. Their beer/cider selection is pretty great. You can also download the app untappd and view their beer menu on the app so that way you're not holding up the line lol. All in all I freaking love big hops.
