I went to eat here on Friday after having this joint bookmarked for ages! It's taken me a few days to really decide where I'd go with this review. I was torn between three and four stars. I decided on the fourth star because I didn't feel it right deducting a second star just because I may have made the wrong decision on a sauce. I got here right about the time they opened. Seated right away and read a book while awaiting a friend to join. Ultimately, my friend stood me up. I was waited on at perfect intervals during my waiting period. This place is nicer inside than you'd expect just seeing it from the outside. I was pleasantly surprised by the atmosphere. I ordered the Banban and opted for the Smokey Mayo. I also ordered the white garlic fries, which I found bland, which was surprising given the amount of sauce. Fries came out first. I would have preferred the fries come out with the wings, but the wings took FOREVER. I literally finished my fries before the wings arrived. I think the waitstaff knew it took too long given the apology received when the food arrived. Wouldn't do the Smokey mayo again I just didn't like it. Borderline too spicy (listen to the on the menu) for me. The original was okay. As a matter of fact, I think I enjoyed the wings more as leftovers than I did in the restaurant. Overall: it's okay; I'm glad I tried it. I might go back if a friend wanted to try it. I found the $45 tab kinda high for just me. And to the young employee who decided to do her eye makeup while standing behind in the middle is the restaurant but behind the register, I couldn't care less, but some people might find it unprofessional. A friend of mine posted a picture of this fried chicken on his social media, and I immediately made plans to try them for myself! The ambience is clean, spread out, and slightly dimmed towards the back, but it gives a nice welcoming vibe. They have a really good hip-hop and R&B playlist, which gives a fun experience. The service is excellent, everyone beginning to end was super nice and helpful. Our server did a great job at explaining the menu and what to expect. We got the original fried chicken, which is basically a chicken cut up into pieces so you get a little bit of everything of a whole chicken. This recipe is still crispy, we got the honey soy sauce on the side, and that sauce is amazing! We ended up ordering more. We also got the crispy wings, those are double fried and definitely have lots of crisp! Every piece was hot and fresh, very juicy and a perfect seasoning. We also ordered some fries that had a powdered cheese on them and the guy did let us know it was a sweet cheese, but I was definitely not expecting that much sweet. Honestly they were not my favorite, it's very strange to have a sweet powdered cheese on french fries. I was not a fan, but my husband liked them. And lastly, is the slaw and the pickled radish that they bring out, I liked those very much and they gave a perfect balance and touch of acid against the wings and the richness of the sauce. All around solid and new experience eating fried chicken. It's safe to say that I would probably eat fried chicken more frequently if it was prepared in the Pelicana fashion. If you are coming here for a limited time like a lunch, please consider the following: there is A LOT of standing around and not getting served. I have had times where I was sitting for a 20 minutes on my hour lunch before my order was even taken. But once served, everything does come out rather quick. The chicken is amazing. I always get the boneless chicken with sauce on the side because I fear the chicken getting soggy from the sauce. It's always made fresh to order (or so I think), so it can take time to come out, but usually not long. I also have the kimchi fried rice from time to time, and that is also delicious, but the chicken hits the spot! The cheeseballs, although insanely expensive, are nice, crispy, and soft all at once. Even the basic fries are crunchy and not the soggy type. There are usually TVs playing some kind of KPOP. I mean, it is a Korean fried chicken spot, so that's expected. I do wish there was something more sportsbar-like though. Maybe a game or two. It's relatively quiet during lunch, with just some background murmur. During dinner, it can be loud if you are sensitive to that. If you want to stop in for lunch and not on a time crunch, Pelicana is the way to go! read more

IRS near my job and on one of my routes home do I decided to place a to go order and try them out. I purchased the 9 piece crispy chicken wings, onion rings and pork dumplings (you won't find the dumplings on those delivery apps). The dumplings were good. The onion rings were decent - nice & crispy. I didn't purchase any sauce with my wings. I found the wings to be crispy and quite good. First impressions upon walking in are very pleasant: this establishment is clean and well-maintained, with around two dozen tables including bar-style seating. Service is pleasant and attentive. A few years back, we walked into the most unassuming joint in Seoul, Korea to grab a bite to eat and left after experiencing the most epic fried chicken meal of our travels. Growing up in the south, that is saying something. Ever since that meal, I've been chasing that elusive flavor back here in the States and Pelicana Chicken was next on the list to give it a try. Although this is a sit down restaurant, it has more a fast food feel to it. Staff were friendly, and quick to fill up drinks, so that was encouraging. The inside is clean, has a nice bar and seems to draw in a young crowd to dine. The Crispy Banban chicken tossed in the signature sauce was the easy choice. Double fried batter gave the chicken that extra crunchy texture we were looking for. Added a honey sauce to mix it up a bit and was not disappointed. The cheese corn as a side was delicious and the right choice. Wanted some wings and the place we wanted to go to (AB) was packed, and that's when I remembered the good things I'd been hearing about Pelicana! So we drove a little further and checked them out. So good!! The place wasn't very busy but it was nice, bright , and clean. We were promptly seated and our drink order was taken. We decided to get 2 sets of 9 wings: one original hot and spicy and one crispy honey soy. Our server warned that the spicy would numb the lips and tongue- he was right! They were spicy but flavorful. The honey soy was not spicy but so crispy and delicious that they were hard to put down! Would definitely get both of those again. We also started with the pork dumplings and a free cabbage salad (like coleslaw but way more fun!) and each of those were really tasty, too. They also have a bar inside, but nobody was sitting there. I do think if they wanted to do a little more business they might want to look into playing some sports on the TVs game days. They're not far from UTSA and I am sure they would draw more people in for sports on occasion than watching Spectrum News and K-Pop. But if you want great wings, check them out! But the server we had was kind enough to explain the different chicken options. We ended up getting crispy wings with two sauces on the side so we could try the different flavors. The cheese balls were salty on the outside and sweet on the inside, love it! The restaurant is decorated for Halloween which we enjoyed! Last Sunday at around 3:30 PM, I finally visited Pelicana Chicken to see if it lived up to the hype. The establishment is clean and well-maintained, with most tables situated toward the back. There's potential to add more seating near the front, as two suspended lights suggest space for additional tables. Upon entering, there's no clear signage instructing guests to sign in for the waitlist. Fortunately, a vigilant young lady promptly guided us to do so. She and another young Asian woman were attentive and welcoming. In contrast, our server, Juan (as per our receipt), was formal but lacked warmth and attentiveness. When Juan first approached, we requested water with minimal ice and asked for more time to check the menu. He returned to take our orders and suggested a side of rice, which my cousin accepted. However, when our food arrived, the rice was missing. Juan informed us it would take an additional 15 minutes and offered to remove it from our bill if we couldn't wait. My cousin chose to forgo the rice. But then my cousin really wanted to enjoy his chicken with rice so after a while longer after several attempts to get Juan's attention, another young lady server approached us and we told her if the rice is ready yet. Juan came and said it wasn't even 15 minutes yet. But oddly, shortly after this interaction, a young lady brought a bowl of steaming rice to our table. This inconsistency was puzzling, and the rice's quality was subpar--dry and possibly reheated. The fried chicken itself was good but not exceptional, especially compared to the flavorful Korean fried chicken we're accustomed to from our time in NY/NJ. Our takeout order for family was poorly packaged; soy sauce leaked, making the bag sticky. For the prices at Pelicana Chicken, we expected higher quality and better service. The chicken wasn't as crispy as anticipated for double-fried, though the original sauce and smoked mayo on the side were tasty. The ambiance and cleanliness, including the restroom, are commendable. However, a sink in the hallway leading to the restroom would be beneficial for diners to wash sticky fingers, given the single-occupancy bathroom. Overall, while the environment is pleasant, the impersonal service from Juan and the average food quality don't justify the higher prices. I'm hesitant to return based on this experience. If and only if ever we visited again, I hope we don't get Juan as our waiter. read more
