Review Update: Sadly, our last 3 pizzas were very mediocre. We kept going back hoping it was just a mistake only to be disappointed again. I can't justify going back unless something changes for the better. For years the Big Horn Pizza Mercantile Pizza has been our families go to for deliciously consistent pizza and something we have always counted on! One day we discovered the manager and the familiar faces were no longer there. Since the new manager took over several months ago nothing has been quite the same or tasted as good. - Not as fresh or flavorful - Crust changed - Sour and hard pineapple - Skimping on toppings and sauce - Much wider crust border That manager left a lot to be desired. If there was one thing she had been very consistent on is her excuses, apathy, and unapologetic attitude. She listened and shook her head and without apology insisted the pizza is exactly the same as it's always been. This is simply not true. The pizza since her running things is nothing special and certainly no better than Powder River Pizza. I just remembered there was an another time after we decided to take a break a long break from them... we had come down the mountain with friends late one evening and because of the time went ahead and stopped in for pizza. What a mistake. We spent money on brew while we waited. It took them over 1 hour to get 1of 2 pizzas on the table and somehow they forgot the other pizza. Our friends had to wait another 25 min. for their order. Hungry, tired, and regret of the situation. I wish the owner would take notice and go back to what this establishment had done for many years and what gave it such a great reputation. I sincerely hope they resume the previous way and make their customers happy again by going back to their original way of doing pizza. Back to when their pizza really was the best! And also, the previous manager was very pleasant, ran a good crew, and always made excellent pizza. read more

We brought in a big group today and Connie was a superstar! The pizza was delicious and the salad bar was very fresh. We enjoyed our experience so much in this quaint location. Would highly recommend that you stop by on your trip to the Brinton museum or if you are just in the area. read more

My intention with this post is constructive criticism. Great food, but service needs work. Good things first: The pizza is wonderful! I haven't had one yet that I didn't love. Even their gluten free crust is tasty! I love having a place close by with good food so I don't have to go all the way into town for a night out. Now the areas that need some work: These words come from having worked years of food service myself. 1. Your beer/liquor sales are where you make a good chunk of your money. Long wait? Fine, keep refreshing my drink. We'll both be a lot happier. Take my drink order and make me wait for it for 20-30 min or sometimes longer? I'm not likely to return. I chose your restaurant to support. Please don't make me regret it. 2. Clean up the dining room. I saw a dirty table sit for 30+ min. You've only got a few open, they shouldn't sit dirty so long, especially with the COVID-19 insanity. 3. Customer service needs some work. I ordered a beer. I waited. After 20 min I asked if I could please have it and got a snotty attitude in response. This, unfortunately, has been my experience every time I've been to The Merc. If I'm waiting an hour for a pizza, I'd like to enjoy a couple of beers on a Friday night. I want to support you as a local small business, but not at the expense of me being able to enjoy the one night out I was able to manage this week. Easy solution: either hire a person to bus and run tables/drinks, or have your staff rotate through doing it every 10-15 min. read more

Friendly place with a rustic decor and fair prices. I stopped in for a late lunch while visiting the area and received a friendly greeting- the restaurant was mostly empty. I had a calzone and my wife had a small chicken pesto pie. Flavor was good and food was ready quickly. Everything tasted fresh and crust had a nice crispness. Only downside was that the crust was pretty oily. If you are from NY or CHI you will probably snub it, but for the rest of the planet, not a bad lunch. read more

My rating is lower but YELP only goes to as low as "not good". Hey YELP you should have a "They suck" rating! We've been here for an hour and a half. There's only a dozen odd people in here and this is a Friday night! We drank a bottle of wine waiting. We've been here since long our butts hurt on the wooden chairs. The clerk was snooty to me, not laughing at my redneck quips and our light heartedness. Buzz kill! Nothing left to do but sit here and twiddle our thumbs. So lame. This place needs an owner who is here and cares. Update! Two hours and the waitress apologized saying she just put our pizza in the oven! Unbelievable! My wife reminds me that at least the meal for two is affordable. But when one has a headache because they havent eaten all day-. We finally were served. Pizza is really good. The place has soul. Nice ambiance. But after waiting this long we needed another round of wine to wash it down with. I want two more glasses but there's no waitress for a half hour! Finally i go up to the counter and order the drinks. "It's $10.01" she says. I give here $11.00 I wait there for change . Finally its apparent no one is getting the wine or my change and my pizza is getting cold. I go back to.my table. After 15 minutes a different waitress deliveres our drinks. She asks if I'd like to keep the empty bottle as a "souvenigner". So this is what we get for our time and trouble? Fed a line of smart ass bullshit? I take my wife out for dinner every Friday night as a reward for cooking and cleaning all week. We've been married for 35 years. In all those years this is the lowest of the low. calzone was overcooked on the outside and yet the center meat was still cold, truly disappointing, especially after a lengthy wait when the tables were mostly empty, not a busy Monday night. Also when I did get my food I noticed you only get a very small container of marinara sauce, you know those "sample tasting containers" when I asked for a little more sauce " oh, yeah, that's extra " I just paid $21.00 for a single serving calzone and it doesn't come with marinara sauce ? what ! Nice small town for a pizza joint. The lady taking orders was great but the other lady making pizzas kept interfering and answering questions which were meant for the order taker. Very disrespectful of her almost like she did not trust the cashier to answer correctly. Onward to the pizza. I ordered a Hawaiian with artichoke hearts instead of the bacon. They use store bought mozzarella cheese not the fresh kind and the dough when cooked tasted more like Jewish Lavash bread than pizza crush. Pretty darn good pizza wish their were more pineapple pieces. A 9 inch big enough for one person. Our Mediterranean pizza was absolutely the best I've ever had. Cooked to perfection in their brick oven. Toppings were very generous and crust was so good "I ate the whole thing". This place has excellent pizza...when the crust is not overdone. The crust is the best when not over cooked...it's light, crispy and chewy. I've managed to get that 1 time. The second time the crust was overdone and not nearly as good. So this time I specifically asked for a very lightly cooked crust and it's once again way overdone. Really disappointed because their toppings are fresh and really good and I know how great the pizza can be. I will try them again but I may go in to order so I can make sure they get that I do not want it overcooked. read more

This is our go-to when passing through Sheridan. Cute, rustic, quaint. Always friendly. Their Wood-fired pizza is bomb. Their crust is perfection: crispy and chewy. Calzones are huge. Service has never taken more than 15 minutes. Love local joints and this is as local as it gets. read more

I had to double check the address as I thought the other reviews were from a different place. Apparently things have changed here. Even those gah it looked promising (see photo) the pizza was terrible. The service was HORRID and the staff was RUDE. Oh I'm sorry, I didn't emphasize that enough... staff was RUDE, RUDE, RUDE. Waited almost an hour with not even a polite word of thanks let alone apology for the delay. Yes, they were busy (though I'm not sure why with the poor quality of the food) but they handled it ALL WRONG. Another customer, was told her wait would be 45 minutes. After actually waiting an hour with still no food, she politely said she couldn't wait any longer because she had kids waiting and asked for her money back. She was actually told, and I quote "We're so busy we don't need your money." I really hope the owner sees this! This was last night and my stomach is still upset from the wad of semi-cooked dough they call pizza. Will NOT be returning. read more

We had a great dinner for my husband's birthday tonight. The menu featured English pub fare. We all chose shepherd's pie, with scotch eggs for starters. Guinness brownies and bread pudding for dessert. No liquor license at the Merc, so we brought in beer from a local brewery. Because it's -12F tonight, the entertainment was watching boiling water steam and form gleaming crystals when thrown in the night sky outside the restaurant. Good food. Good fun. read more
