I've been to Big Island Poke SO many times throughout college since it's right by Macalester, and it's definitely one of those spots I keep coming back to! The location is super convenient right off Grand Ave and close to tons of other shops, and the interior is cute with plenty of seating. Service is also really fast, which is always a plus when you're hungry. I absolutely love their poke bowls and the build-your-own options, but this time I switched it up and tried their hot plates, the Chicken Katsu and Salmon Teriyaki. Both were really good, especially if raw fish isn't your thing! The katsu was crispy and flavorful, while the salmon was tender and coated in a delicious teriyaki glaze. And of course, the mac and cheese was divine. Super creamy, cheesy, and the perfect side to the hot plates. Honestly... pretty good! And that's coming from someone born and raised in Hawaii. The Hawaiian style bowls weren't too bad!! Pretty close to traditional poke bowls! I have visited several times and each time the service has been great! During one visit I had the pleasure of meeting Jenii the owner and Hailey her business partner. I went back the next day to get more mochinuts because the Dubai chocolate one is irresistible. That time I bought a six pack of the one flavor and met Jenii's husband who was working and also offered great customer service. Hailey stated she decided on doing the Dubai chocolate flavor and I'm so glad she did! I brought the Dubai chocolate mochinuts to share with others and all wonderful feedback - they are a hit. Jenny stated every Friday they change the flavors they have available for the week. Flavors do come back - as I have seen repeats. I have also tried a few of the Hawaiian plates, poke bowl, bubble teas and the Korean hot dogs. The poke bowl is very delicious and fresh! And the Korean dogs I get have the cheese and can't go wrong with them and the amazing cheese pull. The teas are refreshing and taro is always my favorite. read more

I credit this Poke place with taking me on a journey from not being sold on poke at all, to consciously craving poke from here. I should mention that I've been here three times, and each time all I've gotten is a build-your-own poke bowl. But they have specific concoctions they seem to be proud of, and they also have side items I'd like to try such as spring rolls and dumplings. And of course mochi donuts! I haven't even tried theirs yet but obviously they will be delicious. I've been getting two scoops of chicken for my protein, and this last time they recommended the sweet sesame sauce which I hadn't tried. It was GREAT and I'll get that combo again for sure. But I do want to try some different options as well. You can really get interesting with the many ingredients they offer. Everything is very fresh, and there are lots of meat options including multiple types of salmon and ahi. I love having the crab salad as a topping. I love the different sauces I've tried. Went on a Friday for dinner and there wasn't really a line to order. The owner was working and was very kind by getting me when we walked in. She helped create my BYO bowl by walking me thru all the ingredients and options. I was surprised to choose 2 bases and 2 proteins. It was a very delicious bowl filled with fresh ingredients and yummy sauces to pull it all together! Of course I went back up to get some mocha donuts before leaving as well! Lots of variety for flavors, and still fresh at the end of the day. These are light and airy donuts, that easily break apart into small round bites. I also found out contrary to popular belief, they're not gluten free. I stayed to eat inside since there's a lot of space and most people seem to stop in to grab and go. Its easy enough to find this place off Snelling but there's a ton of construction right now. read more

I absolutely loved coming here! It feels so fresh and clean right when you walk into the store. Parking was easy and the staff was friendly :) I'm a huge poke bowl lover so I was pretty excited to be included in this event. They have such an easy to read menu and give clear instructions on how to order! Everything was so good. I felt like the amount of food you get is really good for the prices! I've been to a few Poke places in the Twin Cities, and this is consistently the best. The fish is tender and flavorful, they have tons of great toppings (many of which are free to add on), leading to infinite combinations. And orders are ready super fast - I can order it online and it's ready by the time I drive over. It is a great bonus that they also have Mochinut donuts, which hold a special place in my heart. Only reason for reducing a star - online ordering needs improvement. When you click "order again" it doesn't save your topping choices on the "make your own bowl" option so you have to start from scratch every time (and try to remember what you picked last time). And for some reason I can almost never order donuts online, so I have to buy those at pickup separately. read more

Stopped by again today and Big Island Poke just never disappoints I try their eels as main protein for the first time and OMG it was absolutely delicious, you can tell it's fresh and goes perfectly with the eel sauce! My sisters ordered a tofu bowl, gotta say they have a lot of veggie options for those that are vegetarian! The store is always super clean! Overall, love this place! I had been here previously about six weeks prior with my family. I love that the restaurant is minority owned and has friendly customer service. The restaurant is clean, bright and sunny with sufficient seating (although it look like at least half their orders were takeout or DoorDash). We got the Big Island bowl which was delicious. I liked how the rice was warm when served (which is a bit different from The Poke House off of Snelling and Randolph Ave). The tuna and salmon tasted great and seemed very fresh. There were lots of options (from avocado to jalapeños to different sauces. The wonton chips were a surprisingly delicious addition for texture, btw (I normally don't get fried toppings like that). The added bonus? Having mochi donut options right there also. The first time I went, there were only a few donuts left, and they didn't feel as fresh. This time there were six full shelves of donuts and they were delicious. Two thumbs up from this Asian and will definitely be back. P. S. I went back 2 days later this time I had a bogo 50% off from my local flyer. I got the same thing this time with a fish egg crunch and double the crab salad. I got Basil a chicken bowl on the menu. We both love this new cuisine. I was prepared to only get 3 donuts but ended up getting 6 because they change up the flavors. Blueberry, pistachio, and cinnamon. Went for their grand opening. The store was crowded as expected. Their poke bowls were above average. The owner (I think) was very nice, very attentive. We git a couple of bowls from the set menu and a couple of boba tea cups (with free mochi donuts for that night). Will come again read more

I ordered for delivery, and my food came on the quicker end of the estimation. I ordered vegetable spring rolls and a build-your-own 3 scoop poke bowl with greens. The spring rolls were super hot and very crispy, and the dipping sauce was delicious. The poke bowl was exactly as I ordered, and I was really happy with how fresh all of the ingredients were.
