I had been thinking about getting my ears pierced for a long time, but as someone who had zero piercings I was a little intimidated by the process. Nevertheless, my desire to want piercings overpowered any fear I had - and after doing a decent amount of research I landed here at Big Joe's. Joe's is the oldest tattoo parlor in Westchester, and one I have passed by frequently while walking in downtown White Plains. There were several aspects that led to me choosing here - the legacy, the reviews, and the fact they had a dedicated piercer on staff with a lot of experience. I noticed they took walk-ins, so on a day off I decided to head over. As soon as I walked in I was greeted by their piercer Shiela; it was not busy so after signing the standard forms I made my way to the back. I didn't go nuts - just one piercing in each lobe, and throughout the process Shiela was great. She was super sweet, knowledgable, professional, and gave great tips to ensure proper healing. She did everything that I read a good piercer should do. Overall, I was really satisfied with my experience. I've only had the piercings a couple of months so I still have a ways to go with the healing, but I love them and wouldn't hesitate to return should I want another. read more

I emailed photos to ask about a problem with a piercing and spoke to the piercer, Sheila. She did say a few weeks ago that I would probably have to take it out, but it looked better than when I showed it to her in person, so I wanted to see what she thought. She thought she hung up and I heard her saying I was acting "like a puppy" who doesn't want to take my piercing out. She also referred to me as a b**ch bc she thought I couldn't hear her. I was polite and respectful and never gave her a reason to be so hurtful and unprofessional. I've gotten multiple piercings from her and even sent family there, and I always tip generously. If you need help with a piercing, or even if you don't, you will probably get talked about behind your back. I won't be going back or sending anyone else there. I'm so disappointed. read more

Gone there twice. Once for a Tragus and second time for an eyebrow piercing. Don't go there if you want a good quality and lasting piercing. They use surgical steel (implant grade titanium should be used ESPECIALLY for surface piercings.) Barely take their time on piercing, so they don't ever pierce deep enough and somehow got 2/2 irritated piercings from there--so their sanitation is questionable. I have 13 piercings from other spots, and I've gotten the rest to heal with no problem. This place is no good for piercings. read more

Got a tattoo here years ago by the younger Joey. I was too young and naive to turn around and go somewhere else. One of his family members wanted him to do the tattoo and he was pissed he had to stay later and did not feel like doing it at all. It was rushed and sloppy. It's faded really badly, but never was filled or shaded in correctly to begin with. He also thought it was okay to have his girlfriend sit in during my rushed session without asking if I was okay with that. I was in boy shorts because it was a thigh tattoo so I was already uncomfortable. Would post a picture but won't for privacy reasons. I hope they've gotten better over the years. The vibe sucked but it was also a young and dumb moment of mine. You live and you learn!!! read more

This place always has some sort of push back when it comes to piercings & tattoos. I wanted a tat inside of my lip with a specific size font and I was denied by Sheila. She told me that the font I wanted was too small. I went to another shop and they did the exact size that I requested. So where's the disconnect here? A few months later I came back to this shop for an orbital ear piercing- it's been a month and the piercing isn't healing correctly. When I went to Sheila (who pierced my ear) I explained my discomfort and she advised to put tea tree oil on it! Any professional knows that the only thing that should go on a fresh piercing is saline water. I'm convinced this place is just lazy. read more

For Piercing: If you have a nickel allergy, don't go here. I expressed over the phone I had a nickel allergy and was told there were non-nickel options. Great! I went and waited only to learn the price of a single gold earring was $125!! If you don't know a lot about piercing, that's crazy expensive. Seriously, like hipster NYC piercing studio pricing. I have never heard of a tattoo shop charging THAT much. No sterling silver or other non-nickel options, only titanium (which has nickel) or overpriced 14k gold. I was told to go to the Galleria to a place that offers ear piercing services, buy studs from them, and then come back?! Why wouldn't i just get my ears pierced at the place that actually offers 14k gold studs? Around 20% of the population has a nickel allergy, having no affordable nickel-free options is just a bad business model. C'mon you really should have $14k or sterling silver studs that you can upcharge for $40/45 a pair. The people I talked to at the front and on the phone were very nice, so I don't want to be too much an a-hole. BUT if someone has a nickel allergy you cannot, in good faith, tell them you have nickel-free options. PLEASE specify where they should buy studs/ hoops from, or stock cheap 14k studs, or tell them to go somewhere else for a better deal like maria tash. Been coming here for over 11 years and this shop has been nothing but fantastic. Sheila has done over 7 piercings on me and I've gotten 3 tattoos (with a lot of black work) in this shop. I went here with another person who was getting the tattoo. The end result was just OK but I would stay away from Big Joe. For starters the price quoted and the price at the end was off. The guy did 1/3 the work then asked about the price we were quoted and stopped doing the work came up with a higher price and was like you sure that's ok?? You want to proceed? I mean you did 1/3 the work already I would imagine most people would proceed right.....not sure if honest mistake or a tactic used. The place is extremely small and unorganized. The employees are rude and unfriendly. Not a single person had a smile on their face and were running around and yelling and bickering at each other or complaining about the work conditions to each other. The owners son should not operate any sort of business and should not work in a environment where he has to deal with people. A few customers didn't show up for their appointment this guy would say the customers name and then a rude comment "f**k them they are XYZ anyway" or "f**king a*****s" right in front of the other customers waiting. The staff was also talking about conspiracy theories related to the vaccine and despite the front desk being plastered with signs of how every employee is vaccinated a few proudly said "no we would never get that jab". I could careless if you are vaccinated or not or your thoughts on masks but I'm sure many people would take offense. Business 101 while running a business in the community one should be cautious and careful with what they say and how they say it. My review is based on a admittedly visit from many years ago. As seen in the photo, it is for a Japanese Symbol Tattoo (only Black work), which I had done on the calf of my leg. The Line work is not consistent or clean and the fill in completely is both blurred and has multiple empty spots to make it look extremely sloppy and amateur. Having received many more significantly better executed pieces. I must say that this simple piece was a hack job. Remembering my experience, it was nothing but rude, pushy with a tough-guy arrogant attitude. At the time I thought that it was what you had to deal with to get ink, it's not. Super disappointed. Just came in to buy ear jewelry. The piercer offered to put it in which was awesome, but she was barely wearing her mask. But the real reason for my review is about the jewelry I bought. It discolored and rusted in my ear and infected my tragus piercing that I have had for 5 years. When I took it out to change it I noticed pieces of paint from the jewelry coming out of the hole in my ear... looked at the earring and it's now black and rusted. It was gold when it was put it. I never thought for a shop that offers piercings that I would be sold something so cheap and bad for my piercings. For 20 dollars for a small earring there are better places to buy jewelry from. Adam did a really nice piece on my left arm about 6 months ago. I was really impressed with the quality and the pricing was fair. Everything went so well I was keen to get a second piece, but it didn't work out. I called to schedule a consultation to discuss the tattoo, but was told that I should just stop in 'anytime'. That's a bit of a problem due to my schedule, but I still I managed to pop in a total of three times over the next 2 weeks. Each time though, Adam was busy with other customers or on the phone and could only give me a minute or so to talk about what I wanted to do, He did promise to get back to me, but unfortunately, he never did. Ultimately, I went to a different tattoo shop. In the end, I would definitely recommend Big Joe and Sons and Adam in particular based on pricing and work quality. But be prepared for aggravation trying to plan things out and reach them. It's really tough. read more

I got my first ever tattoo here. I entered with a design and Adam improved the tattoo more than I could ever imagine. The tattoo itself was amazing! A problem I did encounter though was that I was not pleased with the service. I got the tattoo done on my back, and they made me sit for 2 hours and 15 minutes on a steel chair. My friend and I got our nipples pierced here a year ago and it has not gone well. When I got mine pierced I heard part of my skin on my boob rip and it was not a sound you should be hearing when getting your nipples pierced. The piercings were fine the first couple weeks and then they started to hurt. I was washing and spraying it with the necessary spray when I was supposed to. The nipple got infected multiple times. Once it was healed I noticed that my piercings were not even pierced through my nipple but through my boob. My friend and I went to another piercing place just recently to change the jewelry and we were informed that Big Joe & Sons pierced our nipples with EYEBROW PIERCINGS not NIPPLE PIERCINGS. They also did in fact pierce our nipples wrong and not through the nipple but through the arolla. Got my tongue pierced three times here in 2018. Very negative experience all three times. But in my defense, this was one of my first piercings so I didn't know any better or did much research. I know that's on me. With that being said, I just felt very rushed as if they just wanted my money and to get me in and out as quickly as possible. The vibe of the shop didn't make me feel very comfortable at all. Staff wasn't very nice. Felt like I was given a lot of attitude as if I was bothering them by coming in to get something done.
