    Big John's Special & Hawaiian

As a past resident of Pendleton- now a PDXer, I'm extremely disappointed in todays service. My grandparents come on a regular basis and today I was excited however it seems that the normal staff that usually works wasn't here. We were "un" greeted by the youth that work here & upon ordering things seemed like an inconvenience- which was clear with the head tilt and eye-roll! If you don't want to work with people- then leave because you set a terrible example for future customer service reps in a pizza joint where you serve families/kiddos. The pizza was good but the lack of customer service really makes a difference in returning customers. Salad bar was not super pleasant- the counter needed a good wipe... and the carrots and cucumber were depressing.

You totally missed the best pizza in town. You should come get your own

Correct smells, flavors and visuals. Obviously is a town fav, good pizza place vibe. Thin crust had a good flavor, the half and half pizza (Big Johns/Hawaiian) was good, one of the better ones we've had. Less expensive than I was anticipating, but more crowded than I had thought it would be, there was a game, so perhaps there were contributing factors. Cheesy bread sticks were good, marinara had a home made texture and taste, nice presentation. Food came out hot, in a reasonable time, all in all a great little pizza place, considering I haven't been in it since the mid 70s. Good place for a family dinner.

    Build-your-own double, hand tossed pizza.

First: this is so nostalgic for me because it feels like a place I'd go with my little league team. That aside: what a great find. The pizza really is top notch - the Platonic form of pizza. The staff is super nice and friendly. Everything is clean and tidy albeit dated. Being from out of town I wasn't sure what to expect but I was seriously thrilled after a long drive.

Looking for a dinner spot in Pendleton & happened across Big Johns. Excellent signage on each end of the block to catch passing traffic. So you walk i n& go straight to the order counter. Didn't know this. Instead we went to a table & sat down & waited awhile. Noticing no waitresses at all we went up to the counter & found out we were supposed to order there. Anyhoo, we ordered the Taco pizza because we had just been talking about Godfathers wonderful Taco pizza from back in the day. This was not wonderful. Huge mess is what it was. Don't think I would go out of my way to eat there again.

Even the cat won't touch it!

The age old question, how bad can you screw up a cheese pizza and breadsticks. I didn't want to know the answer, but I found out in Pendleton... not edible. Keep driving... really some of the grossest pizza I have ever eaten. I suggest going to a chain over this horrible place.

Classic pizza and salad bar, been a couple times as a out of town worker, the setup reminds me of the old pizza parlor days.

We had to keep telling people the same things over and over. Things like "someone already said they were getting that for us" not that we needed to keep asking for things! Important difference.) The manger, I think, kept saying he would get things then ended up over committing to tasks and someone else would end up doing it. This isn't a complaint just something I'd suggest having a discussion with with staff and change- lots of business do this because they want to be attentive but it comes off sloppy and messy and just ends up interrupting the meal more than anything. Everyone was doing this with the best intention though. Only love and advice here! The drinks were very good. Loved seeing all the holiday themed stuff everywhere VERY VERY cute!!!! we loved the heart napkins and the whole vibe was 10/10. I thought my food was bland, everyone else loved theirs, so I won't dock starts for that. Excited to visit this place again next time we are in town. Edit: docked it a star over the owner passive aggressive immediate reply. Comes off like "shut up I'm right you're wrong." I've been in the industry over 20 years and have seen many place fail, flail, and have great success. The successful ones never have a manager or owner that is passive aggressive over a pretty nice review. I hope you learn to take criticism and your business thrives though! (If you were so busy you wouldn't have, or at minimum KNOW you wouldn't have, time talk to every one. I never once saw you "delegate" a task to someone else. I saw you repeatedly say you'd do a task then someone on staff notice it wasn't done the do it for you. You told the boss you'd seat us then wandered off to do whatever behind the bar and she sat us- her job you didn't need to butt into btw. You did say you'd get cheese and did it yourself. You came by a bunch to make sure our table, and every table we could see, was happy but it seemed more for ego than anything because you kept repeating how but YOU are from the second we walked in until we left. You said you'd get my father in law another drink then it simply never came but whatever we just left without another high priced cocktail on our bill, your loss. Trust your staff, take accountability, much love.) Edit again: the owner refuses to stop lying and saying he's "defending himself" more to that over on the google reviews. Staff is great, food is below mid, owner is beyond help. Edit again: just noticed he EDITED HIS REPLY TO ME to try to change the story that he wasn't as rude as before! So I added a screen shot. Talk about "MESSY." Do NOT support this clearly narcissistic owner! Lying, manipulating, gaslighting, and all over what was originally a four star review!!! Wow!!! Edit again: was browsing other reviews and the owner is flat out lying on other reviews too!!

Well, this time, our regular restaurant didn't have their patio open, so we found Europa on Yelp and it said it had a patio. When we arrived, it was clear the patio was closed, but they were nice enough to let us eat on the patio so the dogs could join us. We were so appreciative and the server was so kind. We both had the Trottole in Rosa sauce with a lovely glass of wine. It was delicious! The sauce was incredible, and had a lot of flavor and a hint of spice to it. I cleaned my plate! It was so good. I am so glad I found this place and will now make this our regular restaurant on the journey. The food was 1000 times better than where we normally stop! So, yes, we will be back in the fall!

Service was basically nonexistent and the wait was long. The paella missed the mark--the rice was soft and mushy, the sausage lacked flavor, and the chicken was slightly dry.
