Walking in I will give credit for being clean and safe but it has a soul sucking vibe to it, like walking into a department store from Napoleon Dynamite (I hope you get the reference). I would say they don't utilize floor space well. I browsed around for an item I was trying to locate - a light bulb changer extender. Still I don't mind as I was able to wonder around a bit. What caught my eye is some of the harder to find items that many don't carry such as Frosties blue cream soda! Mt Dew and Cream Soda are my favorite soft drinks, the one time I drink them a week, anyways Frosties is hands down the best. Next they had another product, some new pop tarts that were just released. This indicates they are up to date with new product releases. I will say this though I couldn't find hairspray! I quickly browsed some clothes and furniture. I'm going to abstain from commenting b/c that sort of stuff is extremely subjective. However please note it's there and they do have a section that's not huge but there are gems to be found. Better than Walmart or a thrift shop but less than the better known furniture exclusive products like Maxwood Furniture (selfless shout out to a local company). The employees were nice and the line moved relatively quick. I watched their interactions with customers and both were cordial thus reinforcing my claims it's a safe place to shop. I only noticed the once cashier so I'm not sure how things get during a busy time. As for prices it's comparable to a grocery store but a smidge higher than a discount store or Walmart. They aren't bad but to be honest if I have to buy food I wouldn't come there to shop. Moreover the selection is limited. Same with hardware and things of that nature but they do have an interesting collection of outside festive decorations such as 4th of July. Overall, I think I'm not the target audience at Big Lots and that's ok. I've heard some swear by it and that's fine. The place is clean, the employees are pleasant and they have a wide selection of items but within those items they don't have a good selection. Moreover, I don't see the realized cost savings but it's not like I was inspecting everything. Overall, drop by and they might have what you need but that might be hit or miss. read more

This Big Lots is new. The old location was across the street. Big Lots offers an assortment of living room furniture, outdoor furniture, mattresses, grocery items, household goods, bath and beauty items, and kitchenware. You can find great deals on some items. Other items you can find cheaper elsewhere. The store is large and very organized. I was greeted when I walked in. I absolutely love this new location for Big Lots. However my one complaint is not enough staff for the size of the store. I waited a while before anyone could answer a question about a purchase of a portable fireplace. Then when the employee arrived they were rushing me with information to get me out the door. I did take a look around the store and saw a lot of cottage farm items which are absolutely gorgeous for the pricing! They also had a lot of beautiful spiritual decor which is different and great to see. I ended up purchasing some beautiful pattern decor throw pillows and I already have received tons of compliments on. Please keep the variety coming in. The store is clean, organized and priced extremely fair. The parking lot is big and it's a private lot. Tons of parking space the inky thing that needs improvement is better customer service. read more

Big Lots is not somewhere that you go if you're looking for high-end items or clothes. But if you need a calendar or dog bones or office supplies, this is a good stop. I also really like their selection of items for Christmas. The staff is hit-or-miss, but for the most part they are friendly. They also have a nice selection of discounted food items, which is nice. read more

Big Lots on Dorchester Road in Summerville is a great resource for many items from food to furniture to home goods and many more items. I really like the convenience of this location and the ease of being able to get in and out of the store. This store is well organized and layed out and it is easy to find exactly what you are looking for with all of the different sections being well labeled. The staff here is very pleasant and helpful and is available to help you if you need it. I have been able to successfully find many different items on my list every time that I have been here. Staff was great. But had a problem with a defected product. The manager told me that's what I get for buying from a place like Big Lots. Tried to speak to someone higher than the manager but no one would help me. Still have bad furniture. No replacement. No compensation. When family and friends see poor product I just tell them not to shop there. Update- furniture only got worse. Rip in seam. Using the warranty I paid extra for is a major hassle. If you buy this furniture just know that it won't look good long. And don't spend the extra $100 for warranty. Waste of money. read more

I like this Big Lots for those things that I don't need name brand items for. The store, considering it is a Big Lots, is relatively clean. Some of the aisles are difficult to maneuver because the aisles are so narrow. The parking lot can get flooded during hard rains, so I try to always visit here on a sunny day. read more

Terrible experience still haven't decided what I want to do but level of aggravation keeps raising! So we went there on Saturday and bought the mattress in the living set which is sofa and a love seat. So mattress is OK we got the love seat with us as well but sofa they kept on hold for us. When we came back turns out they had the wrong sofa on hold. It can happen with the stent they didn't have the our sofa... it's whatever is well the problem started when we tried to get a refund for the couch that we didn't get. They tried selling us they did not have our money. I bought a lot of stuff from big lots but after this experience some say I'm thinking of going to different stores. So after a long fight with the manager Lynette I believe her name is.. she really needs to get fired or something rolling eyes and I've heard her curse... I called customer service lady on the phone wasn't friendly as well said regional will be caking me back... I'm honestly thinking returning everything back and never shoo there again... that Lynette needs to work at the back of the kitchen.. somewhere where she doesn't need to deal with guests face to face.. -update: The regional called me and told me to call him back which I did and he said that he will find a couch for me and he will have a delivered to my house. Since I don't trust employees in the store I expect regional find where the coach is so I can buy it... he never called back.. I called customer service and a guy literally told me to listen and interrupted no stop kept saying return the other couch! Lol all I wanted is is to buy a couch.. and I told them before that just to have a love sit makes no sense to me...
