5/19 I wanted to add a note to this review. The store manager is working with me to resolve this issue and once that's complete I will update again. I appreciate her taking the time to contact me and all that she's doing to rectify the situation. I would like to speak with someone...ANYONE from Big Lots in Toms River about what I found in my couch cushions but no one will return my calls or emails. We purchased some furniture back in September and since we got it there was this weird cracking sound in one of the BACK cushions on the loveseat. We jokingly referred to it as the "empty water bottle" seat whenever anyone sat there and leaned back against it. It sounded like an empty water bottle but I figured it was just part of the construction. This morning I had enough with the sound and found a zipper underneath that back cushion. I didn't realize there were zippers on those because they aren't removable so why the need for a zipper? Anyway, I unzipped and reached my hand in there and immediately felt a stinging pain. I pulled my hand out and I was bleeding. I got some gardening gloves and pulled out what was in there and it was a half of a crumpled monster energy drink can. Sharp edges and all. It seems to me that it's someone's idea of a joke and I don't find it funny at all. I've now cut myself on someone's nasty can AND I do t know what else is in my loveseat. Are you kidding me?? I could have done some real damage and I'm waiting for an explanation from Big Lots as to how the hell this crap can happen. That is so dangerous. I'm considering calling an There is no place for me to send a private message. I've sent emails and called the store for a manager to call me but no one is responding. This is an up update. Big Lots came through on sending me my package. I received it just a minute ago. And for that they go to a five star rating for great goods AND customer service!!! This is an update to my earlier post a week ago. I still think the store has amazing prices however the items I bought and was told they would be mailed did not arrive. This store is a dump. I stop in here every now and then when I need to grab a last minute, cheaply made decoration or something random like a mixing bowl or spare pillow case. Obviously it's a discount store so I don't expect amazing quality products but they could at least present the store better and properly train the employees. First of all the parking lot is always filled with trash and the trash can outside the door is ALWAYS packed full and over flowing. There are carts all over the parking area. No maintenance what so ever. The inside of the store typically smells like cigarettes as soon as you walk in. You can never find an employee for assistance. There is typically 1-2 registers open, never more. I would say 9/10 times while checking out either the customer ahead of me, or myself has at least 2 problems with the employee scanning bar codes. They end up attempting to type it in or calling for help. All the employees are clearly under trained. I don't know how this store or company is still in business. read more

We waited for 10 minutes to be asked if we needed help while they were calling for help over the intercom to come to furniture. They called a manager over to help I think his name was Steve, Short, messy hair and there was one customer ahead of us so he helped her first and said he'll be right with us. 20 minutes later we were still waiting and he comes up with another customer helping him before us when we saw that customer walk in. When he finished another customer called him over and he went to help them instead and left us hanging. We asked one of the cashiers if there was anyone else to help and she was talking like if she didn't want to help and was being your typical teenager with attitude. I understand that cashiers can't help on the floor but at least make some effort, the front lanes weren't packed so some effort could've been made. I understand you might've been short staffed but I've been in retail when it's like that too and you have to make it work. Cross train your employees. Figure it out. I am very unhappy with the experience I had at this store and will not be returning. read more

My husband and I had a wonderful customer service experience at Big lots on Sunday, November 28th., we needed a few Christmas decorations and always found something nice and always at a great price. Had a coupon and while checking out the young lady had a problem applying it. She tried several times and then called the manager Lori who successfully got the coupon applied after trying many times. Everything here is cheap. Its great for groceries. No fresh food though, meaning nothing refrigerated. If you live in Toms River you have to go here at least once. Great alternative to any retail store. read more

Worst place ever. Store and bathroom are dirty. Only one person at check out anytime you go. So a 5 min stop in turns into 40 50 min. You ask for a manager and are told there is no manager. Employees at this store are worthless and nasty. They never want to help or just ignore you. If you do not need to stop in here then I would skip this place. Don't know how it is not closed down yet. read more

This is a great store! Prices on most things are very competitive. This is the only place I go for pet food and litter, plus many other items that are too expensive elsewhere. They are understaffed, but the people who work there are polite and helpful. read more

Good place to stop in at when in the area. Prices are so cheap that you are bound to walk out of there with a couple bags. Customer service is below average and the store can be unorganized and messy at times. Overall, good place to find miscellaneous household, garage, and pantry items. read more
