We were looking for something a little off the beaten path and more "authentic" than what was in Kilauea town. We found this on Yelp and decided to give it a try. We were not disappointed! Big Nicks in just off the road in the grass area adjacent to the school. They were so friendly and everything we ate was delicious. The crowd was about 70% locals and 30% tourists. Only 3 picnic tables to eat at but a lot of the patrons were getting their food to go. The burgers were excellent and cooked to order and came with plenty of fries. The Local Boy plate had some beef, chicken and shrimp plus rice and potato salad. All of it was hot and super tasty. If you're looking for ambience or a great view this isn't your place. The service was great, the woman working gave us teriyaki Mayo to try with the sauce, which was very good! All the meats were delicious, especially the ribs. Delicious! There are fold out tables in the shade. Lots of locals eating here so you know it's good! We ordered chicken strips for the kids which they loved. We ate a burger and a chicken sandwich which were both tasty. The made-in-house peri peri sauce was spicy and amazing. We also tried the chili pepper chicken plate - there's a reason why this is a favorite. The potato Mac salad didn't have too much mayo which we appreciated. Definitely recommend! read more

We really wanted to like this place! We had asked all over Kauai where this food truck is, as I'd seen lots of Facebook posts saying how good it is, plus their own posts in Kauai groups before our trip, but no one had ever heard of it. Finally found it mid-afternoon on our last day on Kauai on the way to a north shore beach. It wasn't time for a big plate meal for us, so we decided to share the Hula Burger, an order of potato mac, salad and some drinks. The presentation was nice, but I am very sorry to say that the burger looked and tasted like a Costco burger that comes in large packages, nothing special. We could hardly taste the teriyaki sauce also. There were plenty of fries, again nothing special. The potato mac also didn't pack a punch, tasted rather bland, though it looked good. I don't know if this was an "off" day. The person serving us wasn't all that friendly either, all quick business-like. read more

FINALLY MADE IT to @bignickskauai! The plates semi- made it home in one piece this is the BEST French Dip on island, hands down the au jus cup is PERFECTLY sized for this sandwich so you get it all soaked in one dip! Lol The plate lunch does NOT disappoint. Teri chicken is PERFECTLY cooked -- tender and not dry! ‍ Kalbi is perfectly charred, tender and NOT salty (which I feel is often a common problem, but not at Nick's!) I usually don't like coconut shrimp, but this one was perfect. Crispy and coconut wasn't overpowering; crispy chicken sandwich (my daughter got it with bbq sauce) was CRISPY and INCREDIBLY TASTY. I took a bite and foof last, but not least, Big Nick's Burger!!!! That burger absolutely does not disappoint and lives up to its name for sure. These are big patties with a perfect taste. I LOVE onions, and the onions in the burgers and sandwiches are perfectly cut and arranged, so every bite literally has that same "mmmmm" effect. The potato salad reminds me of home. It has that nostalgic flavor of Hawaii. There's so doubt, we'll be back to try the rest of what's on the menu read more
