My girlfriend came by this place today to help me get my tire patched. As soon as she got out of the car she was harassed and cat called by the staff. Even when she came out with an associate to have the car looked at, the technicians that work here were shouting and whistling at her. She ended up leaving and regrets even going in the first place. It sucks when someone tries to do something nice for you and ends up getting sexually harassed in the process. Also, you'd think grown men would be able to be professional, but maybe that's too high a bar to expect from Big O tires. read more

The corporate personnel of Big-O Tires obviously have never visited this store. This store dilutes the brand. I had ordered 4 new tires, and was told it would be a couple of hours, and they'd call when it was ready. We went to lunch and ran some errands. After waiting 3 hours, we returned to learn that they had put 3 of the 4 tires on my car. Apparently, they only had 3 in stock. Nobody called me during the 3 hours to ask whether that was acceptable. Nobody asked if they could give me a discount. Nobody called to ask if they could switch to four comparable tires they actually had in stock. The four tires cost about $1,300 installed with alignment. Josh, the manager, let me know when I picked up the car and had paid for alignment that they had 3 tires in stock. Abhorrent training. After this fiasco, I still have to expend time out of my work day getting the fourth installed and realigned. Never again for Big-O. read more

Came here to get new tires for my car. I had an unusual request since I was getting different tire sizes than stock and I have a staggered set up with different size rims. I have a smart car, and the tires I wanted are "small" by today's standards so had to order them to the shop first. Big O seems to have pretty good selection of tires, and they appear to carry all the "name" brands (if that's something you care about). Several places I called refused to even quote me for whatever reason but the guys at Big O did what I wanted without hassling me. They also honoured the instant savings deal on Goodyear tires from their website and this - along with the Yelp deal - saved me $100. They will try to upsell you a little of course but they aren't pushy and honestly it's their job and every place does that. Just make sure your quote looks right and say no to whatever you don't want. Dropped my car off and they called me a few hours later, I paid the bill and drove off with my shiny new tires. They also give you lifetime rotations every 5000 miles, which is pretty useful. I will certainly be back for future tire needs! read more

The facts speak for themselves. Had a nail in the tire and took the car to Big O. Donald Herick (his name is on the estimate) said the tire could not be fixed and had to be replaced. The printed estimate he provided for the cheapest new tire (a single tire!) was $196.90 including an unrequested tire protection plan added to the estimate. I made an appointment three days ago and when I brought my car in today for my appointment they told me my wait was two hours. I would have been more ok with this except for when I walked in neither person in the lobby even acknowledged me for about 5 minutes. I had to ask for help! Since it was going to take so long I took an Uber home and waited 3 hours before I called them to check on my car, it was 30 min later when they called back to say it was ready. I thought that making an appointment would have helped me with timing. Apparently not. When I got in my car, the steering wheel was completely covered in grease and I had to ask for a wet wipe so I wouldn't get it all over my hands and clothes. I bought a set of new tires for my second car and I decided to search for a groupon as I always do to get a better deal. The nearest Big O Tires location was in Berkeley which was a 30 min drive away. I made reservations for an appointment but had to cancel due to a doctor's appointment that I forgot. I called them directly instead of going to their website and talked to Alisha who happily confirmed me with another one same time but 2 days later. (I could feel her smiling the whole time she was talking to me on the phone). I arrived at the specific time and the young man, Steven Saechao at the counter greeted me and confirmed my appointment and I presented to him the groupon that I was was using (there was no change of expression unlike other stores where in you notice a sudden change of expression on their faces when you tell them your using groupon)). He told me how much I will be charge with my groupon which was $9.95. He assigns my car to a mechanic and the job was done in 30 minutes. Wow, what a delightful experience. The store was so busy but Steven made me feel that I was the only client he was handling all the time. First, my wife took in the car to get 2 new tires. They tried to overcharge her by about 50 bucks a tire. She argued and they brought the price down. The next day my tire goes flat. I brought in my car at 8am. Its 10 and I'm still sitting here. They tried to charge me for a valve they had to order to fix the tire when the valve worked fine with my old tire. I argued and explained all the issues and how they tried to overcharge my wife the 1st time and Emmanuel chuakay argued with me telling me I was wrong. The valve they order was the wrong part and they had to reorder the part. Terrible service. Terrible work. Not my first poor experience with this company. Will never go to big o tires again. So I brought it back and they tried to charged me more !! The moral of the story was my car was not leaking until they worked on it !! Went in on a Wed to special order tires from my Land Rover. The tech handed me an invoice for the wrong tires. I noted he had the wrong part number on there and he said he would change it. I dropped my car off on Thursday morning. When I came back to pick it up they had put the wrong tires on my car (literally exactly as I had told them not to). They took another two hours to take the wrong tires off, then put the right tires on. To add insult to injury, when I was checking out they tried to raise my oil change price by $25. They said they quoted me the wrong oil filter price. I told them it was a quote and they backed down. Unfortunately this a sloppy shop. Tires and oil are simple commodity. Specifically from my cashier ,will santos, who acted like he had better things to do than do his job or maybe he doesn't like black people. I felt they answered all my questions and I went with them because of their excellent warranty (you pay for it) but it has great coverage and pro rates damaged tires when the clerk asked if I wanted it I simply said "of course, I live in Oakland" (potholes everywhere). read more

AVOID AT ALL COSTS! I say, Avoid Big O Tires Berkeley at all costs, because it's going to cost you. It cost me over $1,000 in damage to my vehicle -- which they still refuse to reimburse me for, plus several days delay when I needed to leave Berkeley and continue my trip (which cost me $$ and a lot of other difficulties). Where do you begin telling a NIGHTMARE story? The details probably aren't important... but here are some details. The manager tore the CV boot on my van (which wasn't even part of the repair requested) and then smeared grease over the tear to cover it up. I wouldn't even have checked their work, silly me -- would have picked up the car, taken their word that it was ready to go, and started my 1,500 mile trip. Fortunately, my friend crawled under my van to look things over, noticed the grease smear in an odd place, wiped it off and found the tear in the boot. I politely told the manager we found it, and he admitted that he personally tore the boot. DELIBERATE DECEPTION He agreed to put in a new axle -- first thing the next morning, so I could get going. Mid-morning, he reports that my vehicle is not ready, they got the wrong part, but they would re-order and have the van done by noon. Nope. They screwed up again -- said they got the wrong part again and the van was not ready. Finally, I had to leave. I picked up the vehicle and had to drive the whole trip with a torn boot, which you really should NOT do. And that's just part of the story. They were supposed to replace the lower ball joint, and when I came to pick up the vehicle, it was still torn apart because they couldn't get the ball joint out. They were pounding it with a sledgehammer because they didn't have a hydraulic press to remove it properly. They hacked up the ball joint receiver, putting me at risk of a major problem in the future. And, they did such a poor job on the alignment -- which was the original reason for my visit -- that I had to buy new tires at the end of my trip. I have spent months trying to get reimbursement from the local store or the corporate "customer relations" people. As far as I can tell, there are no one advocating for customers in the company. UNTRUSTWORTHY One of my front tires was making a sound, I figured I was out of alignment. I took it to this Big O because it was near my office. They told me that I needed four new tires, and they couldn't fix my alignment until I bought new ones. I thought otherwise and took my car to another shop, where they looked at my tires and told me I was only halfway between New and Replacement levels and that in fact the sound was from a bad baring. I needed emergency replacement of one tire for my Lexus (Lexus and Costco did not have it in stock) - the Big O workers ruined the tire sensor and had to replace it and then lost the main matching lug nut. I ended up having to go back to Lexus to have everything corrected. What is really upsetting is their attitude - They don't give a crap about you or your car. No apologies, no courtesy. I have taken my 2006 BMW 3 series twice in four months, thanks to the nails flying off trucks on i880. On both occasions, I received extremely courteous, professional and quick service from Cameron and Herbert. They went out of their way to provide the highest level of customer service and were very knowledgeable. Furthermore, I was able to get in and out of there in 30 minutes, rather than go to Costco tires only to get turned away for showing up a full hour before closing (!). Tip for anyone else that buys non-Big O tires and gets more than their fair share of nails that render the tire unfixable, buy that $20 warranty that covers those cursed nails! I have Michelin Primacy tires so that was a difficult lesson learned when I didn't purchase that additional warranty first time around. (apparently, the manufacturer warranty will not cover things like nails embedded in the side wall of the tire). Conversation follows: These are some fine tires, just sign here How much? $79 each plus installation How much for the cheap ones? $74 plus installation. No. Not those cheap ones. The cheap ones over there. $49 plus installation. Now we're talking! Well I'm not sure if we have those in stock. If you don't have them in stock I will check out big Joe's Tires across the street. Lemme check the back... ...OK we have them in stock. Then they check your oil, transmission fluid and power steering fluid. Apparently I really need new tranny fluid. Now I do believe them, but eh I always feel like I've got to be on guard with places like this. Now to be fair, it's the guy's job to try to get you to buy the premium tires and to get you to get their transmission fluid service. I'd go there again, but I want to price out the transmission fluid service at other shops before I drop $170 bucks. read more

Buyers Beware! You can NOT trust what you are told here! I took my Volvo V70R here complaining of tires being out of balance and /or alignment.I asked to have both checked and to have the tires balanced for speed balancing. An hour later I was told all was fine. ...that nothing had had to be done and that the shimmer in the steering a 60 - 70 mph must be that fault of the car. In addition I was told I should have about 5000 miles left in terms of wear but was quoted for new tires for when ready! So I trusted these guys and made an appointment to get the cari nto Volvo. One day later I had a flat, called AAA and was told that I was lucky I hit a nail be cause due to the shape of my right rear tire, it was a miracle I had not had a blow out. The steer threads were showing and the tire badly worn on the inside edge. AAA wondered, as did I how anyone could have said my tires were e#1 balance, #2 aligned and #3 safe for another 5000 miles. I went here for a tire rotation and after waiting for 45 minutes while the staff stood around outside chatting and not working, I asked for my keys back and left without waiting any longer for them to do the work on my car. Had some steering wheel shake while breaking over 40mph- figured my rotors had some issues or my break pads were uneven, took my car in to big o for an estimate: They claimed the rotors were "too far gone" and would have to be replaced, as well as the break pads. The cost was going to be $420 or so. I called back and asked again for the details, story changed to "we can machine the rotors but the break pads will need to be replaced" with a new cost of $360. So... Being a little iffy at this point and having a natural affinity to getting the best price possible, I called up a nearby garage asking for a quote from them (their name starts with H, ends with olland and is followed by service.) They estimated $260 for a full replacement including labor- I figured this is a much better deal and sounds like a green light... I drop my car off at 9:30 or so, receive a phone call at 12:30 - "Your brake pads were practically new and the rotors were only slightly misshapen, it's going to be $100 total for everything." What? Big O quoted me over 400 for a full replacement, when they could have just machined the rotors like their neighboring garage did? At one quarter of the price?? Big O, I hope you're reading this- this is called capitalism, if you try to screw your customers, they will go elsewhere and will make sure others are FULLY AWARE of your misinformation and detestable business practices. One star is being generous in my mind, if I could have given none, I would have. I'll get my tires elsewhere in the future as well, you're on my black list. read more

Big O used to be the spot to get great service but after sitting in the waiting room and wandering around for 2 hours, I was told that I had two nails in the tire and I needed a new one to the tune of $195, and they didn't have it here (this is where I bought all four tires from) they had to order it. Called and asked if they had a specific type of tire. They said they didn't have them in stock, but that they could place an order for me and have them by Thursday at 11:30 AM. I said okay. Gave the guy my credit card information, and made an appointment to be there at 12 PM on Thursday. Thursday comes around, and I show up at 12 PM. Weird, right? They don't have the tires. (Of course.) The order was never placed. (Of course.) But they do have the Chinese-made equivalent of these tires if I want those. No, I don't. "By when can you have the ones I ordered? I'm willing to wait to get the right ones." The guy says, "Not today! I don't have them in stock at the shop. I have to order them for you first. Do you want to order them?" I'm like, "We just went over this on the phone two days ago. I already placed an order and made an appointment. That's why I'm here. Can you just remove my credit card info from your system, please." And he's like, "Um, yeah. Sorry about that, ma'am." Useless. Called Franks Tires in Oakland. They had me in and out of the shop in 30 minutes with two new tires, and had the exact same tires for much, much cheaper. Smell ya later, Big O! read more

2/14 -2/15/18....This was by far the worst experience I have ever had when needing work done on a vehicle. Here is the story.... I caught a flat recently due to some pothole issues on i80 (what else is new) heading up to Sacramento. When i was able to get off the freeway near Vacaville, I called around to see if any of the Big O locations had the same tire in stock as I usually go there for tires. None did and had to order. However the nice gentleman at the Vacaville store said to try the Berkeley location. Called and they had my exact same tire in stock. So I put the dummy tire on and drove back to Berkeley arriving around 430pm. They close at 7pm. So I pull in and speak to one of the front desk guys named "Will" who was actually the cat I spoke to on the phone and he got the ball rolling for me. All appeared to go well. Tire changed (took 2 hours) and I am out of there around 645pm. By the time I arrived home 15 mins away, the same tire (brand new) was flat again. Perplexed in this moment, I check for nails etc and find nothing. At this point I am thinking the rim must be damaged from the pot hole so I jack my car up and take the tire off. Still no signs of damage. I then go to my trunk to grab the dummy tire again and what do I find? The damn trunk handle is broken off. Not only was it broken off, they tried to hide it by placing some type of bullshit glue or cement type adhesive on it!!!!! Furious, I call the store but by this time they are obviously closed. I went back the next morning to tell them about the new tire issue and then tell "Will" about my trunk handle. Mind you the night before, his worker's had to go in my trunk at least twice to get the damaged rim/tire and to put the spare back. "Will" took no ownership and basically implied that it was like that already. I said hell no it wasn't and proceded to show him how they used something to glue it. At this point he gave a lot of babble and excuses basically saying, well "they were just trying to help you out".... WTF???!?!?!? He never asked the kid who worked on the car anything. Also, as I am dealing with "Will", the kid who worked on my car wouldn't even look at me. He knew he broke the shit. Like I told "Will" look, I am not unreasonable. This handle was on recall from Toyota a few years back. But mine WAS NOT BROKEN! If your crew broke it, fine. All I would expect is you to take ownership and let me know what happened so we can figure it out. I am not gonna flash over a $90 part but for you to hide it is completely unacceptable and unethical. At the least you guys should have said something!" Even if you thought it was already broken. He apologized and thanked me for my advice and said he would talk to his crew. Really? Ok, next stop is to rate your shop as crooked, inefficient and irresponsible. BTW, the original tire problem was a bad valve stem which THEY SHOULD HAVE CAUGHT from the beginning when they installed the new tire! To add insult to injury, after figuring out their screwed that up too, they didn't have the time nor courtesy to mount my tire back on my car knowing I just rolled in less than 24 hours before for THE SAME ISSUE! So screw Big O Tires in Berkeley. I usually deal with the shop in San Pablo anyway. This shop in Berkely is a waste of time and lacks integrity! DO NOT PATRONIZE! read more
