I rolled up less than an hour before closing on the eve of July 4th. My tire seemed to slowly be leaking and I needed to drive a couple of hours home to Sacramento. PRO TIP: I highly recommend first buying your tires from tire rack and having tire rack ship them to this store, I save about $200 by doing this. The only downside to this is having to wait a few days for your tires to arrive at the store. After my tires arrived at the store I stopped by without an appointment and they had me ready to go in under 1 hour. Mounting and balancing was about $20 per tire, which is not too bad but is $5 more than what was quoted online, hence minus one star. Other than that it was a good experience. I had all 4 tires changed, but found my steering wheel starting to vibrate on the highway. I had to take it back to Big O twice to get it resolved, as it was still vibrating after they looked at it the first time. This time, Herbert took care of this personally, testing it and double checking the calibration, balance, tires, etc. It's when there's an issue, where a good company stands out. Overpriced Rip-off. Came here for an easy tire repair and the first price they quoted me was $45, more expensive than the Subaru dealership! When I told them that, they lowered it to $35. I didn't have time to go somewhere else, but my husband went down the street to another mechanic and had a tire repair for $20. Won't be coming back here. read more

Came in for an oil change. Got upsold on an alignment adjustment, too - wish I'd said no. When I picked it up, my front tires were rubbing terribly on the wheel well whenever I turned. Had to take it back in twice to get looked at, and was told repeatedly there was nothing wrong. After rotating the tires back to their original position, the rubbing was less pronounced, but still there. Got told "there's nothing else we can do, so here's a refund." Wound up taking it somewhere else to get fixed. read more

Had an appointment for 7 am. The office manager told me that they do not do appointments until 9 am and that I would have to wait because they were overloaded. I asked why would I be given an appointment time that was incorrect? No response. I offered to make an appointment on another day after 9 am and was told no, he would work me in. I thought I saw my car go to the parking lot at 2hrs 25 min. At 2hrs 45min I went to the front counter to check on the status and was told it was ready. It's unfortunate because my first experience was great with the same person, this one, not great at all. I'm at 50% now. I also asked for wiper replacement but obviously, that didn't happen. Shady business practices at a badly run shop. On Monday, Feb 7 I had my car towed in to BIG O to replace my front tires. I paid ~$500.On Wednesday Feb 9, one of the tires was totally flat and there was a hole in it. On Thursday, Feb 10, I returned to the shop to have the issue addressed, and the store manager, Early told me with a straight face that there was "a nail in the tire" and that they expected me to buy a new tire since "it wasn't their fault that I ran over a nail". I inspected the tire before taking it in. There was absolutely no nail. Also, they never produced a nail -just trumped up some story. IN ANY CASE, I indicated that I expected warranty coverage since I had been in the shop 2 days earlier and already spent $500. BIG O/Early COUNTEROFFERED with 100.00 off of a new tire; essentially they were looking to extort an additional $200 (parts and labor) from me. MY COUNTEROFFER was to drive off the lot and find a reputable tire dealer. I'm SO GLAD I DID. I found a tire shop which not only took the time to printout the warranty details of my brand new Hancock tires. My new tires are absolutely covered under the Patron Pledge Plan; the manual specifically states that "if a tire is rendered unserviceable due to a non-reparable road hazard, any tire within one year from date of purchase will be replaced FREE OF CHARGE with a comparable Hancock produced tire". The new tire shop also hooked me up with a new tire and only charged me for labor. I guess Big O felt like it was going to be too much trouble to fill out the warranty paperwork and do right by their customers. Perhaps they are too busy padding the bottom line with bogus services. I DO NOT recommend this place. In fact, I invite regional managers, legal authorities and regulators to refer to this review for any and all investigations, including personnel background checks for future employment. read more

I am probably the most unknowedable person when it comes to cars, car parts, basically anything and everything to do with cars.... i come to Big O whenever i have a problem that's how unknowledeable i am....but everytime i go, these guys always STEER me into the right direction....recently after my oil change i asked them about my car's bumper it lost some bolts so it is kinda falling off, but not entirely...i asked if they could do a repair here, they gave me referral to the PANEL CRAFT down the street....i've been to PANEL CRAFT before because of another question i asked BIG O about my tire and they helped me (haven't yet fixed anything for me) but took a look at my messed up window operator for free and got my window to close and referred me to get the window operator part at a demolishion site which i still have yet to do than the dealership to save money.... read more

Not a great experience. Making an appointment online was easy. I made an appointment for 8am on a Monday, the first appointment of the day. Just an oil change and tire rotation took over 2 hours. This shop has a scam routine they will run on you. It starts very friendly like and then turns sour. I came in with a very slow leak in one tire from a nail gun finishing nail. Had bought my tires from a different Big O that is no longer in business. But Big O said they would always repair these tires for free. But these guys at the San Pablo shop are not trying to help fix leaks. They are trying to squeeze as much money out of you as they can. The scam routine they run starts with "oh, those tires are made by a company that doesn't honor their warranty". In my case, Michelin tires. Then it turns to, "oh, if we can't fix the leak then you'll have to buy 4 new tires". Later they say, surprise, they can't fix the leak. "Sidewall". But then when you ask to see the tire, the leak is obviously not even near the sidewall. Then they say, "oh, you need a new cabin air filter for your car". What? I'm here for a tire repair, not a cabin filter. Besides, that is clear bs since my cabin filter was changed just weeks before at my scheduled maintenance. So in the end, you waste a bunch of time with these clowns and you have to go to a different shop to have your tiny slow leak repaired. And they move on to their next victim who they hope will just say "ok, put 4 new tires on and give me a new cabin filter" and they'll collect a couple thousand dollars and not have to fix the leak that they are under warranty to fix. omg, i went there to get an oil change and they told me the bolt in my oil pan is stripped and they cant change my oil. They say I should go back to the last place that did my oil change (which is Fremont ford). I asked them how much would a it cost and they told me that the labor will be about $300, but they don't have the oil pan and don't know of anyone who sells it (he did try calling a few other places while I was there.) Anyway they told me to take it back to the last place the oil was changed and see what they could do. (this was last week thursday) Now its monday, I drove from berkeley to fremont and as soon as I park, my car starts overheating, now Im like omg I have to spend even more money. They took the car and a few hours later, they told me the bolt was not stripped, so they changed my oil, and my car was overheating b/c the last place i was at forgot to re-cap the coolant. I thought they (big o tires) workers were nice, but that doesn't matter especially when you don't know what you are doing. read more

I needed two new tires for my old Honda. They showed me my choices and suggested the cheapest based on my car's age. Cool! I wanted cheap tires and didn't have to fight them over it. I dropped off the car and they finished in less than an hour. Overall I was satisfied with my experience. I arrived at 8am Saturday morning and was greeted quickly... no wait. Seems like a fine place to go if, like me, you need cheap tires for your old car. I got my alignment adjusted here. (Or something like that!) But when I drove away from the lot, the car pulled even stronger to the side than it did before. Upon me asking about it, I received this answer: "This is to be expected and perfectly normal, now that everything is adjusted!" Well, hallelujah!!! Thank you very much, kind sir. I guess I really misunderstood the meaning of an alignment job!! So, needless to say, I am still looking for the right mechanic, and I just can't recommend this shop! Not with so little pride in the work they do! Follow up: they redid the alignment and did a better job. But for me it is still only one star for the lack of accountability, and lack of character! He said would be done in an hour. 3 hours later he calls up and said tire needs replacement and I probably need to replace all 4 1000 dollar fix at least. I said I'd think about. Went back. Funnily enough the tire went missing. Also Ramon had stepped out. Now they said the tire was on its way to be disposed of by accident. I told them this could turn into a very big deal. Funny point two is that the tire suddenly turned up - of course disassembled. It also was damaged - with clear puncture marks and some white marking. I called this morning to explore pricing for four tires and an alignment. I was fortunate enough to have Will answer the phone. Will informed me of a special they had running that could benefit me. He talked me through the numbers and compared the special pricing with that of a regular non-special tire set. The special they were running was in fact a better deal. I made it clear that I had a time crunch and if he could complete my installation by a certain time. "Come down and I will take care of you", Will said. I'm a 47 year old man and I've heard that before...but I was on a time crunch and he had the best deal I could find among four calls...so I drove over immediately. True to his word, Will had his team work on my car almost upon arrival, and the lot was packed with vehicles. Will is a seasoned professional who orchestrated a busy store with ease and a great attitude. He absolutely made this transaction the pleasure that it was. If you're bound to a local shop for a tire package, finding the place that won't overcharge you is the hard part. Big 'O tires is not an exception though. Yet, Big 'o tires offers the service and warranty I was willing to pay for. Plus in the past, they've even done a brake flush, a quick brake inspection, advised on missing chassis bolts, and gave me advice and discount on lug nuts on my wheels all for free. That kind of service is really hard to beat. HOWEVER, it all comes at a cost as they are more expensive than other nearby tire areas, and I only trust the big asian dude who works there. He's always been honest and went beyond to help me out at no extra cost. I have been going back there for the last two years. read more

Tony is the manager, and will willing to work with customers on whatever service you need, and is willing to negotiate and match prices with competitors. It's a friendly atmosphere in there complete with reliable service and an overall positive experience. He has given me great prices on service and repair as well as new tires and oil changes. Though it was only one service advisor he took care of everyone with same amount of attention and time which I found admirable. I had a low tire light - thought I picked up a nail . Price is competitive. Service is professional. It took three hours turn around to get new tires, and I had to come back the next day to get the wheels aligned, which took another 45 minutes. My main complaint is that they have only one bay dedicated for steering alignment and at least 5 or 6 tire bays, and they get bottlenecked because all these cars need that final check! Also, for what it's worth, my wheels on the left side came out all greasy and dirty. It wouldn't take much to wipe them off with a rag so that the new tires look good and leave the buyer with a nice warm and fuzzy feeling after I've dropped $1000 on tires! My car needed an alignment. Called Big O and got a price quote which was about $79. Then at the store, the guy told me one of the tires was not good and ALL the tires had to be replaced which the cost would be about $420. I noticed there was an ominous leap in the guy's logic. I told the guy I only need the alignment for now since my car is beat up and it's strictly for the local use. The guy refused to do that, saying something like "we don't do that for safety reason since the tire might blow up". When I asked if I change only the tire in question instead of all the four tires, the guy still REFUSED, insisting all the tires need to be replaced or they won't do the alignment. WTF? I went to Firestone, Berkeley. Did the people at Firestone tell me I had to change all the four tires? No. They just did the alignment and replaced one tire and that was the end of story. read more

I spent over $2k on tires and shocks and decided while my truck was there to go ahead and have the oil changed. The quality of the products I got was very good. The customer service was horrible & they took twice as long to do the install. Later when I went back to do my free tire rotation and have the oil changed again they told me that my oil drain plug was stripped and that I would need to buy a new specialty one to prevent leaking, even after I pointed out to them that they were the ones who did the work the last time and thus the ones who stripped the oil drain pan! Horrible customer service twice!!! Now I go to Big O on West MacArthur or the one in Alameda! Much more professional and courteous! read more

There is a reason this location gets such bad reviews. Employee Francisco is especially horrible to work with. I got a nail so dropped my car off for a tire repair. For two hours I was sitting in a café with full view of my car. After an hour and a half my car made it to the rack and I watched it sit up there for 30 minutes. After that, I got a call saying they couldn't find my wheel lug key. This is after they had my car for two hours, 30 minutes of which my car was ready to be worked on. Francisco told me he had been "looking for it "...seriously, why would you rifle through someone's car?! I was literally sitting by my phone, and yet it was two hours before he took the time to call me and ask where the key was. I could have answered this question in less than 30 seconds if someone had just taken the time to call within that two hour period. I did not have them do the work. Instead I picked up the car and Francisco was very unprofessional with me when I expressed how angry I was about the service. If it was possible to give this location zero stars I would have. Second bad experience at this this location and it will be the last time I use Big O anywhere. I'm also reporting Francisco to corporate headquarters for his aggressiveness. read more

i came here to replace 2 tires and they got me to buy 4. i was told i had warranty but when one of them had an issue just a few months after, i brought it back they had me buy another tire. also they broke my tire pressure monitor sensor. i brought my car back a separate time to have someone reset it and they told me they didn't have a MECHANIC?? on hand ?!? god finally when i went to a honda dealership for a recall they gave me a straight answer and told me the TPMS was broken and i had to replace it. thanks for nothing lol do not recommend, will not return. should have definitely taken a cue from the long string of bad reviews so you should learn from my mistake !!! read more

I took our car in for a free rotate and balance, but was told by the sales guy, Will, our car needed at least 2 new tires, but he suggested 4 since our car is all wheel drive. It took me a while to think about, especially since that was not why I was coming in and was taken aback by the car needing 4 new tires. After some thought, if it's unsafe for me to be driving, I should probably replace all 4. I asked Will to do a brake and alignment check too, and left. Will said it would take 2 hours. After an hour, I got a call from Will stating that my car not only needed brakes, but all 4 rotors too. This was socking to me! I called my regular mechanic and asked if this could be possible (the car needing this much work) since I saw them last and they said NO WAY. They felt like Big O was taking advantage of me. Now, instead of getting a FREE rotate and balance, I was up to almost $1600 dollars of unnecessary tires, brakes and rotors. I immediately called Will at Big O and told him I didn't trust their work, and that I wanted our original tires put back on and I would come pick up the car in 45 minutes. He then called me back numerous times telling me he'd have to charge me $20/tire to put the old ones back, each time in an aggressive tone, talking over me. Wait a second! I bought those tires from Big O, I have free rotates and balances for the life of the tires. They should rotate them for FREE! Right? I will never be back here, or any other Big O. I've called and made a formal complaint to their corporate office and I'm thinking of calling the police to get our car back. Update: I called Big O the next morning, and asked to speak to a manager. Ramon was very polite and said he wanted to make things right. He said he wanted to speak with the other manager to see what to do with me. After an hour, he said come and get your car and we won't charge you for putting the tires back on. I came to pick it up, and luckily Will wasn't there, he was a scary guy. Ramon said that my tires was being aligned for free, so I waited. Then the other manager brought my car around, apologized, gave me a card for a free oil change and said Will, the original, aggressive guy I dealt with will be punished. For how the managers dealt with the situation, I'll raise my review a star. I appreciate what they did for me, but they shouldn't have someone like this working for them. Claims investigator, dealership and police determined it was due to the lug nuts on the wheels being loose because Big O Tires did not tighten them properly.
