The manager offered to recycle my old rims, which were in good condition, arguing that no one would want them. I knew better and within a few days sold them myself for $800. He also tried to talk me into two new rear tires when there was plenty of tread left in them, at least for another year, the way that I drive. His quote included charges such as expensive insurance. Last night, I had a tire blowout on the 80 while heading home from SF. Luckily I drive a RAV 4 with a spare tire and was able to get home. Waking up the next morning, I needed to get it fixed ASAP! I had the Toyota tire & wheel protection and Berkeley Toyota directed me to Joe's tires as they run all tire related issues through them. Called at 8am and spoke to Carlos who went through the usual asking me if I have the plan, my car's trim, and what I'm looking for. I explained everything and Carlos provided times. I couldn't wait for tomorrow so I asked about any availability day of to which he had. I drove over, dropped off the car at 11am, spoke with Carlos who shared the process clearly and what will be done. I signed papers and went on my way. He couldn't share how long it'll take due to the Toyota financing paperwork. I get a text around 3pm saying my car is ready and I show up, pick up my car, and chat a little bit about what was done. Amazing service. They put the spare tire and jack back under the car and replaced the tire, adjusted the monitors, and polished up the wheel. Day of service, clear communication, and great patience. Great service!! Joe's Tire's did an excellent job explaining my options so I could make an educated decision. They are very competent, courteous and professional. They also do oil changes and brakes so I got my oil changed here and asked them to check my brakes. They did a 22 point inspection and the brakes were fine (very honest assessment). Just the cabin filter needed replacing. I will definitely do the brakes later when the time comes. They even provided a video report showing I needed a new air cabin filter. Using modern tech to give customers updates, very cool. Plus, there is a clean waiting area with coffee, water, TV and phone charging station which came in handy. I've gone here twice, in 2023 and in 2025, due to the good rating and convenient location. They're also friendly, prompt, and not too expensive. So why the one star rating? Because both times they made mistakes that could have caused a serious accident for me. The first time, in 2023, I exited highway 580/80 onto University Avenue eastbound. There's a chunk of asphalt missing from the off ramp, such that you hit a 3 inch section of concrete. Gotta love Berkeley roads. I hit it, and the impact made my tire go flat. I looked on Yelp, found Joe's, and limped up the road to get the tire fixed. Now I explained the situation above -- hitting a chunk of concrete at around 30 mph -- and despite this, they didn't notice that I had cracked my rim. They replaced the tire and sent me on my way. My tire always had a slow leak, and I filled it up. A few months later, I went to America's Tire Company to fix what I thought was a leaking tire. They indicated that the issue wasn't the tire, but rather the rim, which had a crack. They replaced the rim, and the leak went away. But before that fix got made, I was driving around with a rim that could have failed at any moment and caused a serious accident. Why didn't Joe's see this? Was it because they didn't sell rims? I don't know. The second time, in 2025, I had to get my two front tires replaced due to normal wear and tear. Costco Tires wasn't picking up the phone, so I I rang Joe's, they picked up and we quickly made an appointment. Now, the standard practice is for rear tires to move to the front, but unfortunately, my two rear tires were mismatched (one was Pirelli and the other Continental). I spoke with Tito at the front desk, and he said that in this case, we'll keep the mismatched tires in the back and put the two new tires in the front, so that they match and your steering will be better. I said great, thanks, especially since I'l be driving 5 hours to the Sierras on single lane roads and need to ensure that I don't drift lanes into oncoming traffic. So what does Joe's do? They put the mismatched tires in front. I pick up the car on Friday afternoon after my final work meetings are done, only to see that they did the opposite of what Tito said they'd do: the two old mismatched tires are in front, and the new matching tires are in back. I ask for them to swap the tires, but they say they can't since they'll be closing in 15 minutes. This is after I'd just paid them $870 for two tires. I drive to the Sierras, and it's one of the most stressful drives of my life, with the car drifting all over the place. Soon after, I go to a different garage and pay them to swap the new matching tires to the front, and the steering becomes much more accurate. Why didn't Joe's put the matching tires in front, as they said they'd do? I don't know. As professionals, you think they'd know that it would be better to have matching tires up front. tldr: Joe's once had me driving on an unsafe rim, and another time had me driving with unsafe steering. If you value your safety, don't go to Joe's. read more

In all my many decades, as a car owner, on this planet I have never encountered such an honest, professional and friendly crew as I encountered at Joe's Tires. And believe me they do more than tires! My car is there right this minute getting its oil and filter changed, along with a free tire rotation. Recently my wife and I took our very old BMW in due to its dramatic overheating. They gave us a detailed account of everything we needed, sending us the explanation on video being filmed under the hood. It was going to cost us a few thousand. Took my Prius over to Joe's after a Toyota 90,000 mile maintenance and was charged $124.95 for an alignment. Picked it up the same day (Aug 30th), and was told the alignment was very good. One of the sales reps then went into a story about faulty struts (even on new cars) and the need to "be careful", while recommending replacement on my Prius. I asked him about the price, and he said $600 and we set up the date (today, September 4th). When I arrived at 9AM, the computers were down so I told the clerk about my appointment to replace the front struts and left the car. At about 10AM I received a call, saying that I needed an alignment, which was badly out (computers were still down). I told him it was just done on Friday, and read him the receipt which recommended a rear shim kit, but then stated that the "Right Rear has a Shim Kit Already." I was then told only the front was aligned, and a new kit was needed because the alignment was way out. I was quoted $35 for shims and about $100 something for labor, which I agreed to. This was in addition to the Struts. When the car was ready, the invoice for the struts was $1037.85. Apparently the price I was quoted only covered the labor. The total price came to $1326.41. I was told I was given a discount after complaining that I was l quoted $600 for the struts...I was told that I must be "confused". The more serious issue was without getting the struts replaced I wouldn't have known the wheels were seriously out of alignment. Why not just inform the customer that they need shims to align the rear wheels when they're doing the work, instead of telling them that everything looks great? Interestingly, the price quoted for the "Recommend Rear Shim Kit on my Aug 30th invoice was $350, over twice what I was told it would cost in the phone call I received today (on the invoice they charged $150.95 total) Was the replacement of the struts essential (life threatening, according to Joe's). Toyota of Berkeley, in their 90,000 mile maintenance ($2656.73 after a discount) didn't seem to think so. read more

Review for tire repair only. They quickly assessed whether the repair was possible or if a replacement was needed because it was too close to the side. They provide a video via a texted link for review of their assessment. Unfortunately it was the latter for me. They offered a reasonably priced alternative. I did experience an issue where they replaced the wrong tire, not the one with the nail. It was odd because they seemed to have pointed to an undamaged part of the good tire in the video. I was able to get the replacement tire and the undamaged tire placed back on tire. They were getting ready to give me a second tire for free because at first they couldn't locate the good tire that was removed. All in all a decent experience and I would go back. read more

Joe's Tires is a terrific place to go. This week they extracted a 2 inch nail from one of my tires and patched it very quickly. If you have any problems with your tires - they are very efficient, can give you good tips about driving that will help preserve your tires longer, and really nice people too! So I realized my car had a very flat tire today and called around to see if I could get a same-day fix. Other places said no or were hard to get a hold of but when I called Joe's, they said they could do it and they did! I was so relieved to be able to get it taken care of and Tito and his guys did an amazing job. Honestly, going to a garage or a place that works on cars as a woman who doesn't know very much about cars is intimidating. This obviously wasn't something I could have put off for later (I would have if I could have ) so in we went. Tito was upfront, honest, and knowledgeable and which made me feel comfortable about the whole process and service. We ended up having to replace two of my tires so Tito explained AND showed me why (which was helpful so I didn't feel like I was getting taken advantage of). AND these new tires even come with a warranty that my previous tires didn't have! I'd recommend this tire shop to anyone in the area who needs a tire rotation, realignment, or replacement. Tesla had failed me and my alignment was severely off resulting in my tire wear being very uneven. No fear because Joe's Tires fixed it well within the allotted estimate time (just over an hour vs the est. 2 hours). Man, calling for tires and getting quotes for tires SUCKS! Well, do yourself a favor and call Joe's tires and make the process a lot less sucky. In fact, it was a breeze. My most recent tire purchases have been pretty straightforward. I go to Costco, order the tires and it's done without any hassle. So this time I cross-referenced reviews with consumer reports. Costco doesn't carry the brand that was recommended, and tires I wanted were for my truck, and a little oversized. I like to buy locally, so I "smiled and dialed" (what's dialing??) after reading so many reviews-Joe's Tires. I told them what brand and size I wanted, and they gave me a quote. These bad boys weren't cheap, but I didn't want to settle so I special ordered them with a $100 deposit. An hour later, I got a call from Tito, confirming everything. What a guy, Tito! Really helpful and informative. He also knocked off $150 from the price I'd already agreed to, saying he appreciated my patience. The tires weren't due in for a few days and we set up an appointment, which went off without a hitch. The installer (a black guy I didn't catch his name) was also super friendly, "taking care of my baby". And Jose, the manager also helped with the transaction. Everyone was really amazing. The guy I initially spoke to over the phone in the morning was really nice and patient with all of my questions while I was trying to figure out the best solution for my circumstance (hence 2 stars instead of 1). I tried to give a call back later in the day to make sure there's still availability for the tire I needed, however both times the phone was answered and got hung up right away. I'm hesitant on ever coming back as a customer, as I understand business can fluctuate a lot throughout the day and I wouldn't mind being on hold until the customers in store were served, but a customer over the phone should be given the same respect and attention. read more

If you're going to buy tires I'd suggest getting them here. Yeah you could probably find them cheaper online but then who's going to install them? Are they going to come with a rest warranty and fee rotation? Probably not. Sometimes you have to pay a little more to just have peace of mind. I like how they also operate alongside Toyota of Berkeley. I own a Toyota and it's just reassuring that they operate under one roof. They are great at customer service and will try their best to accommodate whatever it is you're looking for. Show up with a selection of tires you've spent weeks looking through online and they will do their best to get them for you. They might even have them in stock. I brought my car in with a slow leak in one of tires due to a small screw in the center of the tread. My car had also recently developed a slight wobble in the front wheels at highway speeds, that I suspected was due to a slight imbalance in the front wheels. At the shop the man at the counter told me that I probably needed new front tires, before he even looked at the car. When he did look at the car he said that they could do nothing, as the tread was too badly worn. I measured my tread depth with my tread gauge and found about 50% tread remaining on the fronts and 38% on the rear. The tire industry guidelines recommend not fixing a puncture if there is less than 20% tread left. Additionally, all my tread had worn evenly across the faces of the tires. I then went to Don's Tire in Berkeley and they had no problem in fixing the puncture and rebalancing my front wheels, with the result that my car is running smoothly at all speeds. My next set of Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires for the car will not be bought from this shop. read more

It was evening hours, so I bought tires online on Joe's website for next day delivery, and called next morning for installation appointment. They took me in the same day. Entire experience was professional, courteous and flawless. Had all 4 tires changed and car realigned (which is not straightforward with Tesla) in under 2 hours. They were able to take me right away, so I went grocery shopping at Trader Joe's while waiting. They fixed my flat and got me back on the road for $29.00, much cheaper than a new tire. My air pressure light came on again a couple days after I had filled the tires due to my front right tire being low. After re-checking, I realized the tire must have a leak. I drive into Joe's Tires straight from summer camp pick up after a very short search for places nearby-- shortly after 4pm. I expected to have to make an appointment for the next day or later in the week and also assumed I would need to replace the tire. To my surprise and delight, I was helped right away. They took the car and said it would probably be about an hour. 15 minutes later they called to say it was a simple fix-- a screw had punctured the tire and they plugged the hole and patched it up. $35 and 15 minutes??
