This place is a hard no for me. I had a screw puncture in my tire and took it in for a simple patch request. I had to leave my car overnight. The next day I got a call that it was ready. When I went to pick it up the office was completely disorganized. Several guys working the front and they told me the work had not even begun yet on my vehicle. I told them I received a call that it was ready. After much back and forth, I was able to pick up my car. They told me that a patch could not be performed on my tire and that they would have to order an entirely new tire + labor. They also told me that while swapping my spare out and putting the puncture tire on the rear, that one of their guys completely stripped one of my tire screws. They told me to bring it back a second time for screw repair. I told them to just give me my car back so I could go get a second opinion and not to order the new tire. I left with more problems than I came here with. I took my car across the street to Orozco's Tires for the second opinion. They performed the patch within 10 minutes for 30$! Very nice. Very honest. Unfortunately it cost me an extra 100$ to have them repair the tire screw that Big O stripped. Big O offered to repair their mistake on another visit but I did not want to give them my car after such a bad experience. I will never bring my car here again, I don't trust them and they cost me 100$. read more

Generally speaking, I don't write negative reviews on Yelp. I don't want to interfere with people's livelihoods, and I believe that for the most part, folks do the best they can. However, I just looked back over my new tire purchasing history at Big-O in Berkeley (since 2017), since I need new tires *again* . I am writing this review because I've had to replace my tires more often than I should have . . . One source says tires should last for 60K to 70K miles, or four to five years. Depends on type of tire, driving conditions, and maintenance. I certainly didn't get the most expensive tires available, but I drive fewer miles than the average person, not in rough terrain, and I maintain my car pretty darn well. Here is how long new tires I got at Big-O have lasted me: One set of new front tires lasted only 16K miles/3 years. One new rear tire lasted only 15K miles/1 1/2 years; the other new rear tire lasted only 20K miles/2 years and 3 months. The next new set of rear tires lasted only 12K miles/1 1/2 years. The most recent set of new front tires actually lasted 32K miles, a little under 4 years (why did these last so much longer than my new front tires that only lasted 16K miles?) read more

They take days to service the car bc there is no order. U drop your car off at the scheduled time right when they open n they feet to your car when they feel like it n if they don't oh well. They will keep your car for days. They lost my wheel locks fir each of my tires. They broke a wheel lock and refused to replace it for free. My tires look busted bc I had locks n now they are gone forever bc the technician is lazy n lost them. No one know who worked on my car bc there are 100 people working there. The Berkeley Big O Tires is terrible. We spent a surprising $1600 on our Toyota pickup truck - 4 tires including balancing, oil change, air conditioning service, and and asked them to replace one TMPS sensor. They don't give an estimate or any paperwork when you leave your vehicle. The staff was rude. Everyone was told to come back many hours later at the end of the day. They replaced all 4 sensors instead of 1 without letting us know (this expense was around $500 and we wouldn't have done it if we had know). When we got on the freeway and when the truck hit 55, it started shaking very badly, at 60 the steering wheel shook so hard it was scary. We drove 50 mph or less to the Ukiah Big O. They are GREAT. They told us all 4 tires were completely out of balance, and one new tire was unacceptable and should not have been sold. They fixed it immediately and ordered a new replacement tire for us. Later on we also realized the air conditioning didn't work any better than before paying them $295. We have never had a worse repair job. Do not go to the Berkeley Big O! Do go to Ukiah. read more

Scheduled a free brake inspection. I was really confident my brake pads are worn out, but they said nothing was wrong and they checked a bunch of other things too, didn't charge a cent for it. They probably could've easily sold me on brake pads that I didn't need if they wanted to. They said a diagnostic test where they drive my car around would be $40. There is currently a $100 for $50 coupon showing on Yelp, I'm going to check around and see what prices for diagnostics are elsewhere, but you can trust this place to be truthful read more

I generally tend to go to smaller shops and avoid big chain tire shops. However, I recently got screwed over by a local and very close by competitor that I thought I'd check out Big O. Early, the morning attendant was professional and gave me options. He was on point and did not try to BS me as many other places do. Now, mind you, I had not read the reviews, and I'm glad I didn't because I may have not tried them out. Two years ago, daughter was a student living in Berkeley. Subaru needed tires, so we put on a set at Big O. For some nutty reason, the mech tech left two lug nuts off! So we had her go back to have them finish the job! Fast forward to a month ago: shes now living in Hillsboro, OR, and had a nail in one of the tires. She took out her lug nut wrench and was not able to get off one of the lug nuts, because it didn't match the size of standard Subaru lug nuts! So as it was raining and she was 20 minutes to closing time at Les Schwab, we told her to drive on the tires. This destroyed the tire, and since it's an AWD vehicle, that necessitated purchasing a new set. Go to Big O Berkeley at your own risk to personal safety, and expect the worst. By the way, when I complained about being billed for the wrong lug nuts, the mgr passed me off to Mike D, who I contacted by phone. He never got back to me. RUN FROM THIS SHOP! Their unskilled employee lifted my luxury hybrid by the thin metal floor pan, not the side structural jacking points on the unibody frame. They bent my floor pan, broke the under-cover shield, broke both exterior rocker panels, and scratched my custom allow rim. The total to repair the damage they caused was $4,101.66. The owner, Mike Del Monte, refused to give me his insurance information but offered to repair the vehicle out of pocket. Once I turned in the Bodyshop quote, he stopped returning my calls. It's been five months, over sixteen calls, several emails, and letters. I reported him to the Bureau of Automotive Repairs, reported his conduct to the California Licensing Board, and am filing a Small Claims Action against this fraudulent business owner. read more

This one goes out to the lying ass associate who thought that he could get one over on me. Bad move on your part, you idiot. Now, I will tell the entire Yelp world about your dumbass. I had been here before to do some basic maintenance in the past and had a pretty good experience. I already have a go-to mechanic, but sometimes I can't make it to the shop on the weekends or take time off of work during the week to get basic maintenance done. This would usually be one of my second options in this case. I needed to get some basic maintenance done and came to this Big O' to inquire about it. The Hispanic guy with the glasses told me that he'd take a look at my car really quick to see what he could do. Of course I watched him as he went over to my car. I noticed that he was looking at my tires. I knew that my tires were fine because my mechanic had just told me that both the front and the back would be good for a while. In fact, I had just put two new front tires on about 2 months ago. When this dude returned back to the shop, he told me that all of tires were low on tread. He told me that the front tires were at 5/32nds and that the back were at 2/32nds. He said that my back tires needed to be replaced. Um PAUSE.... wtf? First of all, how can two BRAND NEW f*cking tires be at 5/32nds of tread? Do you really think that I'm that f*cking stupid?! I JUST replaced the front two tires. Why would the tread be that f*cking low? Of course when I told him that, he had a dumb look on his face and still stuck to his word. And for him to say that my back tires were basically bald is just absolutely absurd. CLEARLY you can see that the tread on them was just fine. How f*cking dumb did he think that I was? Trying to sell me tires when that wasn't even what I was inquiring about. Wtf? So of course, I told him that I'd just take the car to my mechanic to have HIM assess my tires even though I already knew that they were fine. Just for the hell of it though, I looked at the last multi point inspection that my mechanic did on my car. And as I thought, the tread measurements were completely different from what that idiot tried to tell me that they were. Front tires: 8/32nds and back tires 5/32nds. That was truly some bullsh*t that this fool was trying to feed me. Why are people still doing this sh*t in 2019? Always scheming and trying to make a quick buck wherever and however they can. Stealing money from hardworking people and treating women like they don't know sh*t about their own f*cking vehicles. I'm not here for it. Shayla is NOT here for it. Well guess what? What is really good about having your oil changed at Big O Tires is they give your car a thorough going over. If you find out that you have a big expensive problem, then you can shop around. I had a SUPER unprofessional experience with Big O Tires' mobile installation and will never, ever use them again. I was scheduled for morning installation on a Friday and arranged my day around the appointment ($100 more than having the tires mounted as my preferred tire shop, but worth it in honoring health and safety during the COVID era). I got a call just before the originally scheduled installation time that one of their vans was having issues and they asked to reschedule to 2pm, which I rearranged my schedule to accommodate. By 3:45pm, no one had called or showed up and I had to leave for my (rescheduled) 4pm appointment. I called Big O to figure out what was going on and spoke with Greg, who apologized for the mixup, then told me the installer was "stuck in traffic." There is a pandemic. There are no cars on the road. And no one called me to tell me there was a delay. Alas, I told him I'd have to reschedule to a different day, since I had already left home. The installer called about 15 minutes later, agitated that I was not home. He said he had "driven all they way" to us and complained angrily to me (the customer) that no one from the Big O office had called him to tell him about the change of plans and that I had wasted his time by having him drive to our house when I wasn't even there. He then said that he was not aware of any scheduled time that he was supposed to have arrived to us, and thus was not late. Seriously. When the installer showed up for the appointment the following Monday, he did a perfectly fine job, but by then I'd blown up a Friday's worth of plans and been berated by the vendor's installer after he was more than two hours late, a *convenience* that cost me an extra $100. The store manager was very rude. I have been going to this big o tire location since 5+ years. Today, I was disappointed with the customer service. The store manager charged me higher amount although I reminded him frequently on the lower price quoted by his worker. Also I had to remind him about the groupon. I thought Big O was only for tires, but I found out that it's even better than the dealer. My a/c was out and I went to the dealer. They charged me $100 to tell me that it would be $900 to fix. Big O did it for half the price - parts and labor. They are honest and get the job done. From now on, I'll be going to Big O first when I need something fixed on my car. I had my car towed to this shop for a nail in the middle of my tire and a wasted hour later they told me I needed a $450 new tire. I'm not having it because I wasn't born yesterday. I drove on my flat tire literally a 1/2 block away and the guys there FIXEd my tire in 10 minutes for $50. Note: If there is a nail or whatever in the tread of your tires it can be fixed. Do not let them try to see you a new tire. The dude was nice but I think it was one of the managers who tried To up sell me. I don't review much but this operation is Shady. Waste of time. Drive 1/2 block away to the other tire shop and see what they say first. The other shop is on the side street across the street. Don't waste your time with the Big O dirt bags. read more

Avoid this place at all costs. I've taken my car for an oil change a few times and bought tires here. After my last experience, I'm never going back. They changed their warranty on their tires to not include flats or bubbles, because "the city isn't fixing potholes". This would be okay, except they changed this after the warranty was in place on the tires they already installed in my car when I came back with bubbles. They forgot to put my wheel lock back in my car after I paid for these new tires that were supposed to be under warranty, didn't realize until hours later, creating another trip for me to go back to pick it up. Not a huge deal, until I realized the other issues with that visit. The splash cover under my car came off while I was driving, because they didn't screw it in properly. They barely attached at all, only one screw held it in at the top. When I took it in to get it re-attached, they kept the car for ten minutes and gave it back, assuring me the cover was properly secured. I look in my trunk when I get home and the splash guard is still there. They held my car, told me they did work on it, and completely lied. I don't know how this place is still operating. I wouldn't be surprised if they lie about the oil changes they provide, or their other services for that matter. The management at this store is irresponsible and negligent. I've never been so blatantly disrespected by a business. read more
