Brought my car in for rear brakes ($900) and was told my tires couldn't be rotated because they were too old (really lo mileage on them tried to upsell me) Breaks took 2 days but they did an ok job. I would go to a different shop in the future and buy tires at Costco! I saw that they had a 6 month interest free deal if you take out a credit card with them. Absolutely do not do that!!! Comenity Bank is trying anyway possible to add fees. I have been trying to pay off the total balance and close the account before the end and have encountered rude service and little to no help. read more

This is a very poorly run shop. First, they don't seem to have any ability to keep appointment times. I arrived on-time and it took them 3 hours to change 2 tires. Second, their "techs" are not competent. They failed to balance the tires correctly, causing my car to vibrate severely at highway speeds. Last of all, when you confront them on the issues, they make no particular effort to prioritize resolution. They don't seem to see any issue with a tire change requiring multiple trips and the customer having to wait around 5 hours. I went across the street to Orozco's tires and he fixed the issue in less than 15 minutes, and charged half the price. If you're in the area, go with Orozco and stay away from these Big-O clowns. read more

I have never left a poor review before, and I hate to complain, but when my concerns were detailed in the evaluation form I received from the vendor, and no response after two months, I decided to warn others. I made 3;00 PM appointment. Called to see if earlier was possible, yes. Came in at 2:20 and did not leave until after 5:00. I had my local mechanic of 20+ years road test prior, the car wasn't pulling but I had hit two large potholes so decided time for an alignment. Was told upon check in it would be an hour, 90 minutes max. After 2 hours waiting I asked what was going on? Told "oh it was pulling really hard" and when I questioned that I was then told, "Well after we fixed it it started pulling really hard so we had to fix what we did". No one came and told me while waiting about the issue, or why it was taking over 2 & 1/2 hours. Then the excuse was that "we had a police cruiser come" That was AFTER I was there for two hours. Yet, I was advised to buy new tires 3 times. My tires are less than 20k miles. I understand you do not make any money on a $129 alignment, but even after paying, my receipt did not have an alignment report providing a pre-adjustment & post-adjustment reading. I did not feel assured the job was done properly. Sure enough, I had my local trusted mechanic check it out and the steering was way off, worse than ever! I found an independent shop that was highly recommended by more than one independent mechanic. Lessen leaned but I paid for it so you won't have to! And yes, I brought up all these issues before leaving the business that day. read more

I made an appointment for an oil change 3 days ago. I told them a 2017 Mini Cooper. The clerk told me the filter would be ordered and available when I arrive. I have been here more than 2 hours. Filter does not get ordered until you arrive for appointment. That took 90 minutes. The clerk at the desk is rude and il mannered. Bring your car elsewhere for service. read more

We had a nail in our tire so my wife stopped by Big O. They were busy but someone came out, took a look at it and said "oh that's no problem- bring it in tomorrow and we'll patch it up." Great. I brought the car in the next morning and another person looked at the same tire and said "you need 4 new tires." Since I don't know what the hell I'm talking about with cars, j said "ok" and put a down payment for tire delivery. I thought it was odd that 2 people from the same shop gave us 2 totally different answers. Well, I took the car to 2 separate locally owned tire shops in Berkeley and both places quoted me $30 to patch the tire. I'm sure these bigger companies need to hit numbers, but I'll never go to Big O again. If you do, get a 2nd opinion!!!! read more

I patronized this establishment on 2/19/24 to replace 4 tires on my car. I would not go back to this store for the following reasons having to do with the sales process rather than the installation: 1. Original quote was padded with a $160 protection plan that I did not request. Only after several inquiries was it removed. 2. Rebate from Michelin was misrepresented and misquoted. I found out the day after when I attempted to redeem the rebate. read more

Had a flat tire. Took it to the store that I had bought the tires from (NEWARK) but could not find the wheel lock key. They temporarily patched the tire without taking it off. They said it was temporary, not to drive it like that for long. Had to spend $200. at a mechanic to get the wheels off because Big O probably lost my wheel lock key when I bought the tires. Took it to Berkeley Big O, (closer), To have the tire fixed for good. Fully explained that it was only fixed temporarily. Tire guys were not given this info so only saw the low tire light, checked it for a leak, did not find one (duh) and said it was fine. Still not fixed, waited 2 hours. Never going back. read more

Marena Bryant and Marcus were amazing in helping me get a new spare. Marena was very attentive and provided the best customer service I've received when buying tires. So warm, kind and helpful. She explained every part of the process and gave perfect estimates on timing. My Pirelli run flat had 3 nails in it . I walked down to Rainbow donuts on University and picked up a dozen to thank them. I also tipped the guy who actually changed my tire $40 (it was only $230 for my new tire). Gracias carnal! Service time for two new tires wasn't too long considering they were really busy when we came. Always busy on a Saturday but they work hard and get things done. Within a 4 hour window my son's car was ready for pick up. I have new coupons in the mail so I will take my car there to get my brakes done. read more

Scheduled a tire rotation online and had the request approved by their team (appointments are reviewed first before you get a confirmation). Anyway showed up for my appointment today and was told they wouldn't honor the service because they're "new guy messed up and scheduled the service" when apparently they don't schedule tire rotations. Super disappointing because the tires I purchased from them were supposed to come with free rotations and nobody told me that you're apparently just supposed to roll up with no appointment and how they accommodate you. Also hilariously when I bought my tires 4 months ago, they had 3.5 stars on yelp. Now they're down to 2.5. Something ain't right at this place. read more

I had to take my car here to get a new tire, as I got a flat. Worst part was that the tire was a month old. Before driving to the shop, I took out all valuables from the car. Since I didn't have an appointment, I was quoted that it would be done in several hours, since they were busy This was fine, since they would call when it was ready and I needed to have it fixed. After several hours, it was ready and I came back to the shop to pick up my car. After paying for the new tire, I entered my car. I noticed that the middle bin in the front was messy, not how I left it. I looked into the glove compartment and noticed that things were moved around. I looked in the middle compartment of the car, and the same. Someone from the shop went through the compartments looking for things. How unprofessional. There is no need to go looking for things in the compartments. Good thing I took out the all the valuable from the car. After this experience, I am not sure if I will come back again. An honest and very professional staff and professional service. My son needed to buy tires for his Jeep. After researching, he picked Big O over an online vendor, because of the price match policy. He went for a larger profile by 2" and was assured the tires would fit. Yes! They threw in a synthetic oil change and gave the Jeep a through inspection. The technician found problem with the suspension, which my son kinda of knew. Received a quote to fix the issue and the technician said if he purchased the parts at a lower price, they would still install them only for the labor. I called in to get my tire changed out due to a flat. The guy who answered the phone was kurt, and not very friendly. When I came in to get serviced the guy who helped me was courteous, informative and gave good customer service. When I checked out, I got another fellow who was not very friendly, and it seemed as though we were an annoyance to him for giving this establishment business. I wonder if it was the same guy who answered my initial phone call. They also rummaged through the glove box and center panel because things were jostled about and not in their proper place. I'm guessing they were looking for anything of value to steal. A tire change doesn't require any reason to go out of your way and look through my stuff. read more

I've been here twice now, and this place has abysmal service. Came here at 1pm for an oil change. They told me it would take 2-3 hours. I checked in 3 hours later to see why my car hasn't moved. It turned out they didn't even have my car in the system for an oil change. Had to wait 2-3 hours longer. Additionally, most of the representatives are too busy answering phones and talking to each other to actually pay appropriate attention to customers that are in front of them. Do yourself a favor and go elsewhere. Furthermore, this place is not very hospitable to guests. The sitting room was extremely cold because they would not close the front door and left it continuously ajar. Sure they have a coffee maker for guests, but no coffee. I really don't care for small amenities like coffee, but please keep up with your store. The trash is overflowing in the trash receptacle, and what's the point of having a coffee maker if you aren't going to keep it stocked? read more

Update - I appreciate Mike D, the owner, reaching out to me immediately after I posted the review below. Mike, I will get in touch with you next. Over the past 10-15 years I have purchased several sets of tires, and gotten rotations and alignments at this Big O store. I recently went in for a rotation and, was provided with an unsolicited quote for $2,900 of suspension-related work. I took my car to my regular repair shop and they told me that with the exception of replacement of an oil pressure sender (a $76 part) NONE of the quoted work needed doing. Among other things the Big O quote referenced a broken strut - that isn't broken. My shop told me I'm their second customer that's recently had this happen. Is it one or two bad apples, perhaps running some sort of scam? Is it more systemic? I don't know, but either way - I will be in touch with the Better Business Bureau and I won't be going back to Big O. read more

Nothing freaks you out like driving a deflating tire on the freeway. Brought my car to the pros at Big O after work. Admittedly, I expected a long wait. Even the line at the counter took some time. Marcus helped me. He informed me it'll take 2 hours, including queue. I assured him it'll be fine and hunkered down in the waiting room. I was waiting for about an hour and twenty minutes. They bumped me to the front of the line because I was waiting on site. I was worried about my device running out of juice but I still had half left. Thank you for the excellent service! I understood that this location has gotten crazy busy because of the closing of the MacArthur store. You can see the constant shuffling of cars with the limited amount of parking. read more

Come back they give me a list of "inspected" points on my car, that I didn't even ask for. Two days later, a rim pops off as I'm getting on the freeway, my cat is making noises that are all associated with "the inspection". Will never go there again! read more

I brought my car in for new tires. I mentioned that my tire pressure sensor needed to be replaced, they said no problem and my car would be done by 1300 the following day. I picked up my vehicle at 1700 and checked out. Started up my cat and the tire pressure sensor light is still on. They completely ignored my request to have it changed.
