They insisted we order online. We were in Marathon and wanted takeout and called to place the order so it would be ready when we were there. The person who answered the phone refused to take our order and said we must order online. Ordering from our phone is too cumbersome and difficult so we drove to Big Pine and walked in to place the order and have a drink while waiting. There were NO people in the restaurant. At 430 PM. ZERO. And she refused to take our order over the phone! She was rude and short with us. We waited 15 min outside because we didn't want to give them any business at the bar. Mozz sticks were insanely good- 5 in the appetizer with marinara sauce. Each was 2 fingers wide, with fresh stretchy cheese and perfect homemade breading (perfect temperature too)! Quesadillas, cuban sandwich, and pulled pork were all great (highly recommend getting a side of mac and cheese- sauce was 10/10!) Key lime rating: 3/5. We prefer a tangier lime for our key lime, this was a much more custard-y version, with a lot less key lime taste. Texture and crust were great! Full disclosure, we never made it past the front door. Last Friday morning, we drove from Key West to Key Largo and wanted a nice place to stop for breakfast. We stopped here based on its Yelp rating. Looking in from the front door, this place was dark, dingy, depressing, and frankly a bit disgusting. Alliteration aside, there was no way we would want to go inside and sit down, let alone eat anything. We decided to continue to our next choice, The Stuffed Pig, and had a fantastic breakfast in an enjoyable atmosphere. I'm only giving this place 2 stars because it has potential to be a good spot . There was two servers the restaurant inside was mostly empty (4 tables with 2 people each) multiple dirty tables around . Food took an hour just to be delivered cold , I never received my conch fritters I ordered as an appetizer server was confused when we said they had never came ? Wow! This place is SOOO GOOOD! We are a family of 7 traveling from CA, AZ, PA, and Nevada - we are here celebrating my sister in laws 50th birthday. We chose Big Pine Rooster because of its close proximity to our air bnb! The place was super cozy and they had Christmas music playing! Our lovely waitress was from Ecuador and was as joyful and sweet as can be. The food was OUTSTANDING! Pulled pork potatoes, mahi mahi tacos, whiskey chicken, mahi mahi Rueben... each and every dish was better than the last! I personally loved the mahi mahi tacos the best. We finished up with two donuts and they were as delicious as any we have ever had! Kudos to the owners, chef and our sweet waitress! The last food establishment I stopped at before exiting the Keys. Using the Yelp app we saw all the stars and reviews for the place so we stopped in. A locals place from outside and inside appearance. But don't let that fool you. It has some seriously good food. I ordered the lobster roll. The friendly server said it was a good choice and it had over 6 ounces of lobster on it. It also had a massive roll it was served on. It was one fine and tasty lobster roll. I was more than full when I attempted to finish but could not. I did manage to eat all the lobster but could not finish the fries and the bread. If you are going to the Keys this should be a stop for you for lunch or dinner. Also Big Pine Key has the famous Key Deer which we saw in abundance. They best way to see the deer is to go into the neighborhoods as the deer like to eat all the flowers and fauna the owners provide. The key deer are only indigenous to this location and are extremely small. Smaller than a German Shepherd. read more

After being fussed at AS SOON as we walked in for having the door open (sorry we cant walk through doors and need to open them) we sat down and was ignored for at least 15-20min before we decided to just leave...so sad we didn't even get to try the food...as first time residents here we would have loved to try Big Pine Rooster...its just crazy that there is only one person as server on a Sunday and they are sold out of everything...based on reviews i had higher hopes...as a yelper we wont be going back read more

Best place to eat on Big Pine Key, maybe the surrounding areas too. Traveling in the area, we tried several places but kept ending up here. Reliable country homestyle cooking, large portions, friendly waitstaff, and bonus fresh baked donuts every morning (but get there early to snag one). Had breakfast, dinner, and donuts, and all were very satisfying. Prices are reasonable and the lunch/dinner menu has something for everyone, drawing on different cuisines. The decor is also fun. It's a very nice and cozy atmosphere. Family friendly place but also good for a date night out or a night out with friends. Can get crowded, but that's just a testament to this place being awesome. What a truly fantastic random find driving back to Miami from Key West. We were getting hungry and needed caffeine so both the other half and I decided: OK, the next crowded parking lot for anything vaguely food-related, we're going there. A very lucky break, I braked (hehe, get it? break and brake?) the car and cut people off to wheel into Bucktooth Rooster. The parking lot was filled and a small line to get in said this was probably a good choice. It was an astoundingly good choice. We were maybe 15 minutes late to get the breakfast menu, but no problem because lunch was really REALLY good. Chicken salad wrap was out-of-this-world with very fresh ingredients. Hard to gage all the mixture of flavors but cranberries, cucumbers, nuts, grapes plus tiny diced chicken chunks made that my best meal of the week. He got the Impossible Burger, which is a patented/trademarked veggie burger that you would swear was mooing in a pasture a few days prior. It really tasted liked chopped kobe beef. Good stuff all around, and the salad appetizer before the entrees hit the spot too. All three plates were huge, so about half of each was dinner once we got home. Deena our server was funny and terrific at her job. This place is what the Keys are all about: relaxed, fun, good food and smiling people...wish this was closer to home and I'd be a regular Roster-er. read more

We are staying at sunshine key rv park this weekend and the staff here recommended Bucktooth Rooster. We had a great time! The restaurant is a super cute, rooster themed place with about 15 tables and a bar serving beer and wine only. The menu was expansive! Wow! They had a little bit of everything. Sandwiches, burgers, pasta, traditional entrees, burritos/tacos. The place was very clean with super cute decor (like a beach and rustic look). The service was very fast and we were seated immediately. We ordered two traditional burgers, a pizza burger and a tomato mozzarella panini. They all came with the most yummy potato wedges (fries)! Best Cuban I've ever had! Hands down with that shaved pork. OMG, delicious! We were thankful they were open on Thanksgiving day. Our food was not sent to the kitchen, so we waited an hour watching everyone after us receive their food. The most frustrating part was that nobody told us what happened and just thanked us for our patients. They also gave us a free piece of key lime pie, which was great! Went there at around 8:30 PM driving from key west. The service is so bad. Or more appropriately No Service at all!!! We stood for 15 minutes at an empty receptionist desk waiting to be seated. And when the lady saw us waiting, she went ahead and asked a few diners how are they doing. Then she came to tell us in a rude way that there are people waiting outside which we know there were none when we walked in. Or even acknowledgement or apologies for their slow service. But there were people behind us who just walked in and seated them right away. Then told us to wait another 15 minutes outside. Maybe there's only 1 server and 1 cook that we see so we. Just walked out because I'm sure the service would even be slower. I will not even step a foot at this place again for no service. read more

I've been here a few times. The first couple times, I was a little disappointed. I live for fresh fish and every time I ordered from them, I felt like it wasn't fresh (how is this possible in the Keys?!). This time was much better. I asked the server what was freshest and she suggested the Mahi. She was right because it was good! Loved the side of Brussels sprouts too. My partner enjoyed this seafood pasta - raved about it in fact. I think a lot of people probably like this place because of menu diversity and HUGE portions. It is a good value. Looking for a breakfast place in the Big Pine area, the Rooster fits the bill. The building is on the left as you travel north from Key West and is colorful, clean and Key West inviting with lots of chicken art decor. Easy and ample parking too. They are open for lunch and dinner, but breakfast is what I have enjoyed twice in the past four months. Outside Dining is available with a little shade. There is a sign at the door asking for patience as they are experience in staffing shortages.The menu for breakfast isn't large, but has the standards of eggs/omelets/pancakes/biscuits and gravy and sides. Nothing fancy for breakfast. Both times my dining has been right at opening and found the service is friendly and prompt. The Big Pine Rooster is one of the few places that will also cook your catch. read more
