I have been coming to this place for a super long time. It used to be better in the 90s but it is still pretty good. I miss the days when there was old record albums stapled to the ceiling. The Decor is eclectic Florida Keys. On my way out of the keys a couple weeks ago we ordered takeout to pick up as we drove past. Interestingly although there was two cars in the parking lot only, they told us it would be 40 minutes before our food was ready. Well we got there earlier and it was ready earlier because there was literally no other business other than one table. So my go to is conch fritters and Conch strips. We had to ask them for sauce. They had our stuff packed up in boxes and there were no sauces in there and we had to ask for them. After we got in the car we discovered there was not a napkin to be found in the entire pile. Two sandwiches and an appetizer conch strips and an order of conch fritters was about $70. The breading on the conch strips tasted like unseasoned flour. I don't know what's going on there I don't know if it's Covid or what but the food quality has just been deteriorating over the last few years. This was a regular staple for me in the 90s and in the 2000s but maybe there was a change of ownership I don't know. At this point in time nostalgia brings me back not the food quality. The certainly is a quintessential piece of old Key West so it's worth a stop.

Bobalu's is an easy solid three or four from me. This long standing quirky fun bar/restaurant 's beloved by locals and tourists alike so they're often very busy. People seem to Love this place! It's fun and everyone's friendly without all that Conch customer service you sometimes get down here. The food's good and the prices are refreshingly reasonable. You'll not often see that down here either. Pizza was pretty good. $3.00 beer!!! Happy, friendly, fun hospitality.

I have been wanting to visit Bobalu's for the longest. It took me a long time to finally visit because it is always busy. Luckily, I popped in when it was much quieter. It is a place frequent by locals. The outdoor décor and colors really caught my attention. It is quirky, casual, and very Keys. Our server was great and friendly. We ordered a few drinks and they came out quickly. We shared the Key West Flare Pizza - Ham, pineapple, bell peppers, and onions. I thought the prices were really reasonable. Also, the pizza was actually pretty good. It is a laidback beachy theme bar/restaurant. They serve your typical Key West seafood items, but it is fun and relaxing.

Great outdoor venue. Have dinner under the stars and twice a month a live band performs. Bars equiped with some roof in the even a rain cloud shows up. We ordered the kitchrn sink pizza, family style ceaser salad and a garden salad. All 3 items were delicous, ample for 4 hungy adults. Ceasar was delicious and i like my dressing in my green which this salad came in with majority of my leaves were tiuched. Garden was good served with yum yumbranch on the side. And the pizza was really good. Good friday night crowd, all seats were Taken, but you definitely can belly up to the bar and get your drinks on! A must try

Checkout the entertainment on the backyard patio. Gets very crowded.

Great local restaurant. Very nice staff and all food is freshly made. Yummy pizza. Cakes are made on premise daily. When it's gone it's gone. Don't miss it. Save room they are large portions.

Bobalu's has great food choices! Amazing outdoor seats! Service was good and also very energetic and lively. will be back!

We are waiting to experience some good food.

They knocked it outta the park on the shrimp and corn chowder. Could have used a little more temperature heat but my thought was the cook didn't want to over cook the shrimp. Mango wings had a sweet flavor with heat in the back notes. A little undercooked for my liking but no worries they were still eaten! Next came the Cuban and fried grouper sandwiches. Grouper had a little too much breading but was nice and crispy. Homemade tarter was good but not close to Fish Camp or Hogfishes homemade tarter. The Cuban was the first I have had in the Keys so I had nothing to compare to but it was average to what you can find anywhere in the country. Def. A place to stop for some lunch along your drive to Key West.

Burger, good flavor, fresh bun, pick your sides- mine creamy rich Mac n cheese and green beans flavored w bacon.

The bar items are likewise inspired. Their Key Lime Cartel was an awesome combination of Coconut Rum, Key Lime Liqueur, and other ingredients rimmed with Toasted Coconut. I tried several of their crustacean dishes and they were superb. I'm not much for the piscines as I am for the crustaceans; but they have several items from both types! The desserts are exceptional, especially the Sweet Corn Cake with Blueberry Compote and the Strawberry, Chocolate,Coconut Bread Pudding; both served with Vanilla Ice Cream. Service was prompt, efficient and personal; yet casual as befitting the vibe here in the Key West Area. The servers and busers were smokin' hot as well--not surprising given the location. Definitely a must-do if you're in the Key West/Stock Island area!

I think we did nothing wrong. We are professionals, polite, we are 4 professors working for the university in different field, well, one in food safety. We are with kids and the kids behave extremely well, making no noise. But one thing is, yes, we are Asian. Ana Maria rolls her eyes so many times. I feel extremely bad to be treated the most racist way in my life. The kids get water without a cap. We never get refills for water for the entire dinner. She refuses to separate the bills for us at the end, or is it a restaurant wide policy? Yes, we spend ~500 dollars on the food. And it is mandatory to pay close to 100 dollars for a tip, and I understand it because we are party of 8. And We are excited to try everything. We understand it might be a busy day for restaurant, even though we did not get food for a long time but we did not complain at all. But by the end of the day, she says we need space and a table for the others, so they kick us out right after paying the bill. We move out, but no one is using our table. We feel being treated very rudely, so we report to the manager. She is very nice and apologizes to us and waives some fees equal to the tips. But the waitress never shows up or apologizes. I understand she might have a tough day, but this is very unprofessional to do this or highly suspicious to be racist. I want to say, we are professionals, and this won't be the end of the story. We will do everything to make sure the restaurant pays the price, and we have the ability to do it. Update: I reduced one more star for the manager's reply. The service was clearly rude. The manager said they support their team and offered an excuse. This was clearly not an apology. If the waitress was just rushed or needed the work done earlier, we would understand, but the way they treated people was beyond rude. We could see how differently she treated us compared to others. Let's add more details: we were a party of 8. They put us in the middle of the hallway. She kept complaining that we were in her way (it was not our fault!!!!!) She explained the oysters were 12 for a dozen (reminder, she did not mean the price; it was 48 dollars), but she made it confusing or assumed we did not understand what a dozen means. Btw, the CDC is warning about the oyster salmonella outbreak in 22 states, including FL. Unfortunately, I have been having diarrhea for the past two days. Will do a checkup and update everyone.

The service was not just disappointing, it was completely unprofessional and left us wondering how this restaurant is even operating at this level. First, we ordered a clam chowder the moment we sat down. This is a basic appetizer, something any restaurant should be able to bring out. Shockingly, it didn't arrive until after we finished all of our entrées. I had to ask twice about it, and the explanation we received was, "We don't prepare the ingredients ahead of time, so it takes longer." I was honestly speechless. Clam chowder is a standard menu item, how does a kitchen not have basic prep done? By the time it finally arrived, it was no longer an appetizer but an afterthought. Second, before all of our dishes were even served, the staff came and removed every piece of tableware from our table.(included a little spoon we got for my kid, I have to ask them twice to get it back from their kitchen) We were literally left without utensils while still waiting for food, especially the clam chowder that was delayed. When we asked for utensils again, it took multiple reminders before someone finally brought us a few spoons. The lack of coordination and basic common sense was shocking. Third, we were a group of five adults and one child under 1.5 years old. At checkout, we were automatically charged a 20% gratuity fee, yet the restaurant provided zero service for the child. We asked for warm water to heat a baby bottle and were told, "We only have cold water here." That response alone was unbelievable. We even brought our own child seat. Worse, the server repeatedly carried plates over our child's head, and even after several reminders, continued doing so until the very last dish was served. The lack of awareness and safety consideration was truly concerning. To be specific, our server was a female staff member with an accent, and throughout the entire meal, it felt like she had zero intention of providing proper service. There was no attentiveness, no willingness to help, and absolutely no sense of responsibility that would justify a mandatory 20% service fee. Overall, this was an extremely disappointing and frustrating experience. Thirsty Mermaid displayed poor communication, lack of professionalism, and a complete disregard for basic hospitality standards. We will never return, and I strongly advise other families especially those with young children, to avoid this restaurant entirely.
