My wife and I stopped in yesterday for lunch. It now has new owners and the name is The islands pancake house. The food was fantastic, the atmosphere was great and so was the owner Stacey. Service was fast and it was nice not spending over $100 which is hard to find down in the keys. Had definitely an interesting experience here. We came during the end of breakfast and the start of lunch. I was craving something salty and sweet. The common American taste. And it was an interesting experience Bf got eggs bacon and French toast. They were pretty standard diner. But you see how big and perfect those bacon are? I'd have to say if you are just wanting a snack, COME FOR THE DONUTS. Miami just doesn't know how to do donuts and this place is perrrrrffect. I wish they opened a donut shop in Miami for me! They are so fresh. I'm glad I was able to get one. The jalapeño calamari was interesting and kinda disappointing. It was mostly jalapeños. Worst food so far. Ordered liver and onions. The liver and onions were cold and dry. It was layered on top of cold mashed potatoes the Rubin sandwich was supposed to have pastrami. The meat was fatty and looked like bacon and tasted like bacon. We eat here several times , every time we visit the keys. Food and service were excellent and the atmosphere is very cozy. They keep the place immaculate! My husband had the Cuban burger and said it's his new favorite meal. I had the whiskey chicken dinner and it was done to perfection. The place was empty, a bit surprising. The waitress was amazing. Met us at the door. Very patient as we altered the order. She said if we were covid conscious , we could order online for a contactless transaction. Not necessary, but very appreciated. The restaurant dining itself is a large open area for minutes seating. But looks like a great place. Food was tasty as well. I had the bbq brisket, with baked beans, fries, and Cornbread. The Cornbread was moist, buttery, with honey. Very delicious. I ah e been here many, many times. The service is great! Soledad makes sure you feel welcome and make sure you get what you ordered. The food is very good. Unfortunately, they are victims of the times where it's difficult to keep anyone working. So the owner, Marcy does a lot of the cooking to stay consistent. They now even make donuts for the sweet tooth. They have nice desserts like traditional Keylime pie chocolate, peanut butter, brownies, and pineapple upside down cake. Great ambiance. Lots of cute decorative roosters everywhere. Menu has a great variety for everyone and a lot of unique things like the Asian salad. They even will cook up your fresh caught fish for you! We had the hamburger for our kiddo. The don't have a written menu for kids, but they do have one if you ask. We also had the beef brisket bowl with Mac and cheese. It's definitely home made Mac, but doesn't have the crumbles on it which I love. Still yummy though. Lastly we had the pulled pork with coleslaw which was also home made. Good portion sizes. We were all full. Four stars because the waitress put in the wrong order for me. She did the beef brisket sandwich with a side of Mac and cheese which for some reason was less mac and cheese and 2 dollars more. We so wanted to like this restaurant! It was Thanksgiving Day and we were staying nearby. The older menu posted online was 4 pages but has now been heavily edited. Therefore there is very little seafood on the menu, which we were looking forward to. The country fried steak resembled a frozen dinner. The Seafood Alfredo had 3 shrimp and a small piece of fish that they said was Maui for $23.95. Very bland! The Turkey dinner was smoked and all dark meat. The Mac & Cheese was good!
