I get excited when I hear that poke spots are opening up locally. Especially, a lot closer to home . I'm a huge fan of poke & sushi in general. I have been anticipating on trying this new place that opened in Downtown Lowell. I finally decided to give it a try today & ordered Delivery. The presentation was on point. It was pleasing to the eyes. But I was a bit disappointed with the portioned scoops of Rice vs. Proteins + Sides. Especially if you are being charged an extra $1 for a spoon of crab salad. I basically feel that you are over paying for sides rather than the proteins itself. I love that you get a variety to choose from, but I wasn't that impressed. Flavors weren't there for me. Also, I was missing a few items on my order. Maybe online ordering isn't the best way. I really wanted to love this place. Big Poke was taken over by new management late in 2022 and now in March of 2023 they are going great! The poke menu has been enhanced and you can now go to lunch with your non tuna friends as they have added terriyaki chicken and a pineapple based Huli Huli chicken. You can have a cooked chicken based bowl which has all the normal goodies in it. Some just skip the protein and make it a veggie bowl. Most importantly, you can count on this management team to have the doors open every day from noon to 8PM. The poke is still awesome and it's great to have it in downtown Lowell! read more

Its nice to find a poke place with decent and fresh tuna and salmon. The food has always been consistently good. The only thing i would advise people to stay away from is the chicken. Had this funny incident where i ordered some teriyaki chicken, since they have no grill they use a small oven to heat the meat up. I noticed that the oven was never turned on, and the young lady proceeded to pull out the ice cold refrigerated chicken pour sauce on it and served it to me to go, she could have just asked me to wait the extra 3 min to warm it up but instead choose the lazy route. I have eaten here several times since they opened. Probably close to two dozen or more times now. Honestly, the food is pretty good. The staff on the other hand seems to have gotten progressively worse over the last couple of years. My latest trip we walked in well in advance of their 8PM closing time only to be greeted by an employee who said "we're closed". When I looked at my phone and said it wasn't 8 o'clock she repeated "we're closed". Not "I'm sorry for the inconvenience, we're closed" just "we're closed" in a rather rude tone. Look, I get it, the pandemic is making it tough for everybody, but you need to do better than that. Why is the door still unlocked? Why haven't you changed your hours listed on the website and Facebook page? Why are you in the service business if you don't care? This is the second time we've tried to go recently and been burned by the place being closed well ahead of their supposed closing time. I love to support local places, but never again here, done with this place. It's too bad, food is pretty good and relatively unique in this area, but I'm not going to waste my time going downtown in the cold only to find out the place isn't even open when they're supposed to be according to their posted hours and having employees who couldn't care less as they tell you they're closed. Maybe try locking the door next time, and posting the change of hours online. read more

pretty big portions, def gonna be full. got the white rice with spring salad, creamy salmon and shoyu ahi, crab salad and green tea noodles, with corn, cucumber, tempura crunch and spicy aioli sauce. the protein were really flavorful. spicy aioli is a spicy mayo sauce. the noodles were reminiscent of buckwheat noodles. the crab salad was bomb and worth the extra fee. read more

I was so excited when a friend told me about a new poke place in the Lowell area. I tried googling for their website but only found their barebones Facebook page that didnt tell me their operating hours or provided a menu. Boo!! First star lost. From the FB page, I found out they just had their grand opening on Nov 3rd. Anyway, I walked in at 11:30am and was their first customer of the day. The place was clean and the decor was pleasant. I was greeted with a friendly smile. I found my way to the back and stood under the "order here" sign. They used two large TVs as menu but it was very annoying to view because it would only stay on the menu screen for 2 seconds then switched to a blank screen. Okay, 1/2 star gone. The protein choices were interesting. Its mostly based on cooked seafood. The closest thing to sushi was their ahi tuna. I got the ahi tuna and marinated salmon (they dont have a menu so i cant quote the exact names of stuff). Next, I picked two sides. I selected the calamari salad but was informed it was a $1 upcharge. I would have liked to known that beforehand but again, the silly menu system prevented me from doing so. My second side was the island mac salad. I topped it off with unlimited toppings, I choose corn niblets, thinly sliced cucumbers, pineapple chunks, and tempora crumbs. I finished my poke bowl with their island curry sauce. And heres how they lost another 1/2 star. They gave me soy sauce packets, chop sticks, and napkins but didnt offer me a bag to carry all of this. And now that I've had the food, the salmon was way too salty from the marinade. Overall, I'm far from being impressed but hey, they've only been open for 5 days. I'll give it another shot later. In the meantime, the Okipoke in Westford is still my goto poke place (try to say that 5 times fast!) read more

I have had the opportunity to visit several Poke restaurants across New England. This one is the best Poke experience I have had in Massachusetts. They offer a wide selection of fresh proteins, produce, and quality toppings. The owner is knowledgeable of authentic poke and more than happy to educate his patrons. I love my Hawaiian brothers. In town for a business lunch and we all pass by the four star places for a 5 star lunch / dinner / anytime, so surprised, so good. You really gotta visit to understand. I have heard from a few the lunch counter type of atmosphere put some off for a time,....BUT partake of the freshness, flavor and variety this place has to offer and it will be a staple forever more! Absolutely everything was top notch. AND hard to describe why this is place is more vibrant and alive than many other similar "Poke" places that are popping up in upscale areas. But I guarantee you won't leave this place disappointed! Decided to finally try this cute, fun looking place tonight after the Festival of Lights parade. I've never actually had a pokè bowl before so i was a bit intimidated when I walked in and saw all of the options, the guy with a hat on asked me if I had ever done it before and i said no and he was happy to guide me through it all, I feel like anything you chose there would taste good together even though it's all so different. Anyways needless to say I can't wait to go back and try different options. All so fresh. And the staff was so friendly even the guy at the till helped me choose a drink haha. So glad a poké restaurant opened in Lowell. Having to drive out to Westford for poké was a little out of the way. Big poké is a very good authentic Hawaiian style poké spot. They have many selections of ingredients that I have never seen at Japanese based poké places. If you try any of the kimchi flavored fish, mussels or sides make sure you like kimchi cause it's not a watered down version of kimchi. At this point I have tried near everything and it's all good. The shoyu is slightly sweet but savory at the same time. I like the delicate ginger flavor of the white sauce based fish. I like my spicy tuna a bit more spicy but the spicy tuna is good too. Even the macaroni salad is good just as it is in Hawaii with a strong flavor of celery seed. Don't be afraid to try something new! read more

Yummy. A couple of the people who take your order do not understand your directions and do not understand english. I ask for tuna and get salmon, even when i point... then they charge me for some extra stuff that i did not even know was extra! Ridiculous! They should label the stuff clearly next to the food to show which costs extra. Food was amazing, cashier was super nice. Been waiting for a Poke spot in Lowell for a while now, glad i dont have to go all the way to okipoke now. Please lower prices a little bit. If people can get a poke bowl under $10 you will get alot of business, especially with people who will want to go every day (this is what chipotle does). Keep up the good work. I was skeptical, because when I looked at the menu online, I had no idea what a lot of the items were. But since this is set up like a Chipotle, you can see what you're requesting, and ask questions. The flavors are GREAT! Start with sushi rice (much more flavorful than plain white rice), and build on it. You can lean towards things that taste a little sweet, or things that are a little spicy. You can stick with familiar things like chicken teriyaki or get things I wouldn't touch (like squid!). You can add leafy things or crunchy things or spicy thing on top, if you want. It's all up to you! I started to explain what I ordered, but it would never come close to conveying how great it all tasted, and how the flavors came together. You just need to try it! This place is fantastic, so much variety to choose from when it comes to protein/toppings. Good high quality food. Workers are friendly and are good at explaining if you have no idea what poke is. Large (fully functioning) flat screens behind the counter make ordering a breeze. Perfect spot for a quick bite. And the only spot within 15 miles of Lowell that has poke.
