I made a pretty lengthy (but well worth it!) drive out to Mesa to see their store in real life (after following them on Instagram for over a year). It is a small, but adorable shop with a BIG workshop in the back - aka where all of the magic happens! I had been eyeing this "I can't promise you the world but I can promise you this; I will buy you tacos and touch your butt" sign for so long on Instagram and just had to come and buy it! For my husband, of course! :) In addition, I bought Christmas gifts (jewelry) for my interns and cannot wait to give them away tonight! We've purchased from Potato Barn multiple times over the years, and when we look for additional items, they are the first we go to. Our first purchases from them were over ten years ago, and each item has withstood the test of time both in quality and endurance. One of the fantastic things about Potato Barn is that what is available today, may not be there in a month - they rotate and include new things on a regular basis. When we bought our middle eastern style wood entertainment center, we put a deposit on it, arranged for delivery, made the purchase - and to this day, that piece has never been back to the showroom. On Nov 6th, they had their annual holiday night out. The first 100 guests were treated to a free ice cream topped churro and dirty sodas from food trucks outside the back of the store. I like that the stores also carry some exotic food items like different kinds of ramen/noodles and chips. I find that most, if not all of their locations have cluttered aisles, and they are pretty narrow. About the only aisles that are wide tend to be bedding and bath. They do have a pretty large selection of lamps for every room in your home. Since TJMaxx is their sister store, they also have an aisle of temptation when you check out to pay, lol. With a little will power, you can defy the odds and NOT pick up anything while you're waiting in line!! Nordstrom is usually known for exceptional customer service, so this experience was extremely…read moredisappointing. My husband purchased a pair of shoes that ended up being too big. The shoes were in perfect condition, with the tags and receipt, and there was absolutely nothing wrong with them. When he attempted to return them, the employee acted as though they no longer accepted shoe returns. My husband has an accent and is not originally from this country, and the way he was treated made us very uncomfortable and concerned that he was being treated differently because of that. I called the store afterward to clarify the return policy and was assured that there was no policy preventing them from accepting a return on shoes. Then traveled out of the country. Before leaving, a manager had assured us that they would take care of the situation when we returned. Unfortunately, by the time we came back, we were outside the return window for receiving the money back on the original payment method. The new manager we dealt with was not understanding or considerate of the situation. In fact, she told us that even the store manager might not be able to do anything, but that manager would not be back for another five days. After everything that had happened, we were left wondering what the purpose of waiting another five days would be. We ultimately accepted store credit just to resolve the situation and move on. Then, as we were leaving, we could see the three employees together through the window, laughing shortly after our interaction. Whether they were laughing about us or not, that is certainly how it appeared, and it was incredibly unprofessional and disrespectful. This entire situation could have been handled so easily with basic communication, understanding, and customer service. Instead, it became a frustrating experience from beginning to end. Nordstrom has a reputation for taking care of its customers. Unfortunately, this particular experience was the complete opposite. I sincerely hope management reviews what happened, because every customer deserves to be treated with respect and dignity--regardless of their accent, background, or how they communicate.
