Big Shark has had good customer service and multiple employees available each time I have been in the store. Apparently this bike shop does not want or need new clientele. I guess they can reply on repeat customers for all future income. I walked in and asked if I could schedule a few repairs on my bicycle and they were happy to accommodate my request, however when I asked if I could drop my bike off on the day of the appointment I was informed I would have to leave the bike with them at the time the appointment was scheduled. It would have been well over a week before they could perform the Minor Maintenance. I ride almost daily and did not want to leave the bike sitting in a shop for a week on the shelf. I asked if I could drop it off the day prior to my appointment and again the answer was no. They would not make any adjustments or changes to the policy. I've had service on my bicycles for over 20 years at different bike shops around the US and never had an establishment not work with me or try to help. They just outright didn't care. read more

I have two bikes purchased from Big Shark. One is about 15 years old. I get a free tuneup and checkup on both bikes every year. That's a great perk for purchasing a bike from them. Their service department is really great too. I recently had a flat tire and just brought it in with no appointment. They took about 10 minutes to replace the inner tube and charged a minimal amount of money for the tube and repair. I thought I'd have to leave the bike with them for a day or two. But they asked if I could wait a few minutes and they would take care if it right then. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly and I always look forward to visiting the store. read more

I'm an old cyclist with many years, many bike miles and many bike repair needs. I've learned that bike mechanics are everywhere but GOOD bike mechanics are hard to find. A good bike mechanic (in my mind) studies the problem, diagnoses the cause and then makes repairs VS replaces parts until he chooses the correct ones. Also, a good bike mechanic stands behind his work and makes it right if necessary because not all bike problems are simple. I have experience with two of the mechanics at Big Shark in Chesterfield and can attest that they are both very good mechanics - they know bikes. They don't throw new parts on bikes with the hope that it'll fix the problem. They diagnose, test and stand by what their work - that's hard to find read more

These guys always seem to busy to acknowledge the next person in the door, even before Covid. Post-Covid, they have a silly tent setup outside the shop and make everyone wait outside on 99° days. They only allow one person in at a time and there's always a wait. It seems like they don't have enough staff to help people in line outside for help. Regardless of how they're managing Covid, they've always been overpriced compared to competitive shops. Swim Bike Run in Chesterfield is absolutely the best customer service I've ever found in a company. Just go there instead. read more

Came to buy a bike and knew exactly which one I wanted. They helped people who arrived after me twice when they full well knew I was waiting. After 30 minutes I left and went to Trek on Manchester. I bought a bike from Trek today and cannot recommended them enough. I will never buy from Big Shark again, they are always too busy to help even when I know exactly what I want! read more

My wife purchased her first bike which was a 2021 Liv Alight Disc 2 from Big Shark West. When we got it home I was checking over everything on the stand and found the headset to be dry along side with the bottom bracket. The cranks and the seat post were scratched to hell and one of the stem tension bolt was stripped The cosmetic stuff wasn't that big of a deal as I wanted to build the bike up anyway but the inattention to detail when building this bike was appalling. Later on I replaced most of the drivetrain with a Shimano Deore and contacted Liv to get a replacement stem and BB just in case. Now that I have this bike in good working order it will be serviced only by myself, Swim Bike Run or Wheelhouse bicycle. I have been looking for a cool woman's riding jersey. This is the third bike shop I have checked out. I was told "We don't have a lot of women's items." He pointed me to a small section. He did mention a sales rack. I looked and was once again disappointed. I wandered over to the sales rack, YES finally a cool woman jersey and in my size. They had a dressing room I was more delighted. They do run tight and small so I had to got a size bigger. But I got one. Thank you. This place was pretty cool, they have a small riding room. It looked like about 6 or 8 bikes were available for riding. They had small tv screens in front of the bikes. I don't think this was a class. The bikes were full. The shop had three attendants and each one of them took their time with each person in the store. I did not feel pressured or rushed when I was in the store. Great place.... read more

Their customer service was top notch and a major unrelated bonus (as far as I'm concerned) was getting to play with their adorable boxer puppy, Zeke! Although I've been using Big Shark for about 20 years to work on my bikes, it's still always a pleasant surprise to get back to one of their shops to have work done. This last visit a couple weeks ago in Chesterfield was no exception. The staff who greeted me were genuinely happy to see me and were very helpful in steering me to who I needed to talk to to get the work done on my bike. The mechanic who took over was great (I don't remember his name) and had my service order written up quickly and accurately with no high pressure up-selling. The atmosphere of the entire store was just pleasant and fun to be in. If you've ever spent any time in bike shops, you will know how rare that is. I won't take my bikes anywhere else. All purchases at this business are store credit only, including tires, et... This is a very poor excuse of doing business. I have purchased things from them before, the customer service could be so much better. I recently had to return a tire because they sold me the wrong size and then noticed I was charged for two tires, I only purchased one. They didn't believe me and called the employee that sold me the tire two days earlier to see if he remembered overcharging me! What? They did refund my money but I don't feel like a cherished customer. My husband stepped in later that day and contacted the main location and we got refunded for the entire mess. read more

We were in Big Shark today. we had visited Momentum Bike Shop on Mid Rivers Mall Drive. We were looking for a step through bike that my husband could ride. W e were shown two at Momentum and had a "test ride" and a really good sales person that gave us personalized service and lots of information. We decided to check out the competition and visited Big Shark. when we arrived we had to go to the service desk to find help- even though we were wandering through the bikes. We met "Mr. Duck Dynasty want to be" ad explained what we were looking for - he immediately told us he did not think they carried anything like that but if we wanted to look up some bikes - he would tell us if they could order them. Then he said - "Oh, we have a Electra brand that may work, you can look it up!" Really, you have a store full of bikes and a store front in a high rent area and your guy send us away to look on line for a bike they carry! We walked out the doo and I said "Wow, they just let a buying customer walk right our the door! We may not have been spending $2,000 on a big - but we were prepared to purchase a bike in the $600 -$700 range! The biggest problem of all was that Mr. Duck Dynasty made us fell we were not worth his time! Obviously he does not work on commission - but the owner needs to be in the store and see what is going on - Money is walking right out the door! Unbelievably bad customer service! My son was home on spring break when he realized his gear shifting cable wasn't working. We rushed to Big Shark (where we bought the bike 3 years ago) and they promptly (and cheaply!) fixed it. I had a great Sunday group ride with Greg yesterday! He is a total pro. While riding, we were able to chat about cycling and he answered all of my questions professionally. I'm fairly new to cycling but he was patient and addressed my specific needs. When we got back to the shop, I met Craig. This review was written after I had my bike repaired at Big Shark West, in Chesterfield, MO. I had to replace a wheel. I'd like to state, that if I could rate the service and repairs department separately I would give them five stars. The staff there is friendly, reliable, and very good about letting you know if there are any changes to your bike or anything new that needs to be repaired. My one star review is for the rest of the staff. As I went in I saw three of the staff members standing at the desk having a conversation. One of them looked up and I told them why I was at the shop, while the other two continued their conversation without even acknowledging me. Eventually I got my bike back, got my receipt and payed. At this point I was holding a receipt, a copy of my order sheet, my bike, and the extra wheel. My hands were full. I started walking to the door and nobody (there were four people at the counter doing nothing at this time) even said a word about helping me out, so, since I had to balance all my stuff while trying to open a door, I dropped my bike. Still, there was silence. How hard is it to at least ask someone if they need help? Isn't that part of their job? Customer service? Remember? After this experience, I'm going to look for a new bike shop, even if this one is very close to my house. I feel sorry for the repairs department though, their staff is great and unfortunately will not get my business now because of the rest of the staff. read more

I visited chesterfield store July 3rd after posting on bicycle blue book about the possibility of trading my current bike in. Got an email back right away claiming yes, they'd like to work with me and to bring it in. Store personnel acted like they didn't know what I was talking about, but looked up the bike and told me what it was worth. Showed me a couple bikes in the shop and told me of another they would be building in the next couple of days if I wanted to come back and test it out. Sounded good to me. I also saw a bike listed on their web site that said 'in warehouse, allow extra time'. So I emailed the guy I talked to (I won't mention his name here) that night asking him if that bike could be assembled and to please let me know when I could come back to ride. This was a Wed night. Since it was a holiday weekend, I waited a while for a reply. I had heard nothing by the next Tuesday, so called to check. After hem hawing on the phone, he said they could not pull the bike from the warehouse unless I purchased it first but they still planned to build the other and was I still interested in it. I said I was and please call me when I could come back to check it out. Well it is now 3 weeks later and I've heard nothing back and I do not plan to call them again and beg them to let me buy a bike from them. I guess they have enough business that they did not want to do any trades, but would have been nice for them to tell me that up front, or in a call back. I have used the Big Shark groupon for service before, but I will definitely not be going back. read more
