Even tho booked one year in advance and were promised 4 stirrup road with washer/dryer learned two weeks prior to arrival that Big Sky Resort moved us to 6 stirrup no washer/dryer and did not even bother to call us and let us know.  At check-in manager offered complementary laundry and 2 lift tickets which greatly eased our frustration. Reported the burned out outdoor lights at 8pm the 2nd nite and even tho I said it was ok to wait till the next day, they were replaced one hour later even tho it was 15 degrees and snowing.  Impressive service. Leather sofa and arm chair nice additions.  True ski in out. read more

Great mountain, wonderful staff, the worst management in the ski industry. If you have a Max Pass or for any other reason have to go to guest services forget about skiing. The line was out the door and moving at a snails pace. Of course the idea that they could set you up for 5 days was frightening to them. 5 day pass? Would you believe that you have to do it every day! Of course you can go back after 2:00 to get tomorrow's pass but I came here to ski not visit guest services. the lifts close at 4:00 giving you 30 minutes to get to guest services. Not a big deal except that now the lifts are closed and you can't get back to the condo. Guest services told me that there was a shuttle that runs every hour, or you can walk. It was only a few hundred yards but your wearing ski boots. Thanks a lot! Telluride, Vail, Jackson Hole all have far superior customer service. Had a great stay at the Shoshone. Great location near the base of the mountain, and everything was up to our expectations. The hot tub was great for post mountain, and the staff and other guests were friendly. Can't recommend enough. And thanks again to the hotel manager who comped our dinner on the last night simply because she wanted to be sure we were enjoying our stay. Will be back for sure! read more

We were all excited to ski Big Sky. The weather hasn't been good during our time in Big Sky which isn't the resorts fault, very cold and grey. Poor visibility. This can happen anywhere. But the resort area only earns 2 stars. There is no charming village to enjoy, just a few restaurants that aren't so great. Not much to do for the non skier. It's not particularly even conducive for walking. One can take the shuttle to the town of Big Sky but thats a mall really. No small town feel there. All in all for our family vacation we are disappointed. The mountain itself has a lot to offer. So many different trails although the top has been closed due to high winds. The ski school is good, we loved the instructors who are great with the kids. Snowshoeing was glorious too. I'm sorry to write a negative review it just might not have been a good fit for our family . Summertime I'm sure is a different story. read more

Ok. It seems that I will be in the minority here and not provide a stellar review of big sky. I will preface it by saying that we had weird, challenging conditions that saw rain top to bottom in February, unseasonably warm weather, high winds, flat light with minimal snow all week. First the good, this mountain is big, gnarly and can be super dangerous. I consider myself an expert and can go pretty much everywhere, as long as cliffs are not involved. Big sky is up there with all the biggest best I have skied. Also great long consisting pitch intermediates to just rip it. The people who work here are fabulous, super friendly and very accommodating. They really helped when things went wrong with some of the lifts. So why only 3 stars? Honestly, it seems that there is not enough investment to consider this a world class $110/ day resort. One chair (swift current) stalled on us for 90 minutes and needed a generator to eventually get us off. It is an incredibly important part of the lift system and had been having problems for days. It seems they were stitching it together and hoping to get by. Another chair (challenger) just shut down for the year, too old to repair. Again, important for accessing parts of the mtn (look at a map to see why), and clearly an issue years ago. Other chairs were intermittently stopped, not sure why. The lift system is just not at the same level as the resorts that big sky wants to compete with. Restaurants are also minimal, surprisingly so. They're so sparse it's hard to find them. I don't really need over the top lunches (although Everetts filled that niche nicely), I just want and expect some more options. There are porta pottys at the top of some of the lifts, because there aren't enough facilities. Also, why there is not a big map at the top of every lift seems strange to me. Lastly, I am a big advocate of using a guide at least once for big mountains. Not only to understand the mtn, and to find hidden gems, but also for safety reasons. Is that terrain just too difficult for me? But the guide cost is insane here, $500 for 1/2 day, $700 for full? This is in bounds guiding. I have paid much less for off piste guiding, with the guide responsible for providing beacons, probes shovels and avi safety. There seems to be a chicken vs egg at big sky. They want to be in the same class as the biggest resorts and charge at that level. But to do that they need to get the infrastructure at that level. Terrain is certainly world class, but the infrastructure just doesn't feel like it yet. There seems to be so much focus on real estate, and there are certainly ppl that revel in million $ homes that dot the landscape, but for me u have to get the basics correct first before moving into that realm of the development process. Will I come back? Maybe, but I think there are a lot of other big mtn, laid back places that one can save a lot $$ for the experience. read more

Overall fun resort, only issue I had was with the young man working the sushi and bowls section of the upstairs food area. Seemed annoyed to even be there, was annoyed when I asked for food, and was in a rush to get my order over with, when there wasn't even a line behind me. He went back to just sitting on his phone after. Then, the lady serving my boyfriend said "this is my last day, fuck this place." I also noticed that no one washed their hands before preparing food. I understand that you work at a ski resort, I have many friends that do, but it still requires hospitality and customer service, especially when you're paying so much money to be there. Had an awesome time in Big Sky. Great place to stay for Yellowstone. Wake up and leave early when going to Yellowstone to give yourself the best chance to see wildlife and beat the afternoon crowds. I came during the summer months and had plenty to keep me occupied. Resort is like a small town with the shops and activities. I would highly recommend the adventure zip and the lone peak expedition. On the zip tour you go up a ski lift and then take about a half mile hike to the first platform. Harnesses are very safe and responsible staff make you feel even more secure, especially for nervous zippers. There are four lines, each about 1,000 ft long that take you to speeds up to 35 mph. The final line has two parallel lines, so you and a friend can race. Make sure to get the left line (It's much faster!!!) Lone peak expedition takes you in a four seater ski lift to start about 2,000 ft higher up. From there you take a truck to another lift. The truck has 12 comfortable, padded seats. Keep your eyes peeled for wildlife here as it is abundant. Big horn sheep are almost a guarantee. The truck drops you off at an enclosed gondola. The ride lasts four minutes and lets you off on the peak. From the peak you can see three states and two national parks. On almost all days, you can see the Tetons from Lone Peak. If you're not as adventurous there are great hiking trails all around the mountain. There is an 18 hole disc golf course that takes you for a brief hike from hole to hole. If you prefer, you can buy a pass for $9 that allows you to ride the ski lift to the top and back down on your own. There is the option to hike down but is just is breathtaking from above. If you're really feeling exceedingly sluggish, there are approximately 15 shops in the mall within the resort. The restraints are top notch. My personal favorite was an italian place near the center of the village. Their pizza was out of this world. Another place called Yeti Dogs was nothing like I had had before. They had all kinds of concoctions with hot dogs. The include but are not limited to chili, baked beans, fritos, and mayo. I spent 10 days there, each one was as entertaining as the previous if not more. read more

Big Sky, Big Resort. When the locals complain about the lines on a crowded day, you may raise a brow asking yourself, "Lines? What lines?" Yup, lines are pretty nonexistent here, even after the epic snow falls. You can expect to get quite a few lines of untracked snow until noon. I'd recommend doing a quick run or two under the Swift Current High Speed Quad, then head up to the Lone Peak Triple and make a few more runs down the bowl. This place usually gets tracked out the fastest, since it's so expansive without any trees, so people love to come here. When this place gets tracked out, head up the Lone Peak Tram for some epic untouched snow on the backside (Southern), which can go untouched for the whole day. Don't let the double black diamonds fret you as the terrain is not too difficult. As for the rest of the mountain, this is one insane mountain that you can definitely spend a few days adventuring. Tons of glades, trails, a few park features will get you giggling with joy. This place still has not attracted the masses, so live it up before they do. For lunch grab a hot dog at Yeti Dog, located at the base (Mountain Village). And if Big Sky ain't your thing, check out it's smaller sister mountain, Moonlight Basin. read more

Stayed here from July 20-24, 2011. This is a very nice resort; however, it's best suited just for winter. This resort is definitely a stand alone ski resort. Fortunately, my wife was having a continuing education conference here, because had we came here just for vacation, I probably would have slit my wrists. Everything is closed and there really isn't much to do here. Yes, there are outdoor activities (ie. hiking, mountain biking, zip lines, etc.), but with most of the stores closed and the place being empty in general, I would not recommend coming here except for the winter time. Big Sky is about less than 50 minutes from the West Yellowstone gate, so this is not a great option to stay here and do yellowstone. One of the highlights about this place is that at just under 7000 elevation there are no bugs. We left our doors open all night and it was nice to breathe in the clean Montana air. Also, being high up you get a great view of the stars. I believe you can see ever constellation in the sky and planets as well. Mercury is very easy to see as it's right above the highest point of the mountain at Big Sky. I would go back to Big Sky only for skiing (or snowboarding in my case.) read more

In the words of a Montana local, Big Sky is "silly." I have struggled to unpack that sentiment, coming to the conclusion that what is meant is that Big Sky is a comical masquerade - a mountain pretending to be Vail when, in reality, it is one among many Montana resorts that have no prayer of reaching that level of notoriety. However silly Big Sky may seem to a local, however, they are in fact doing some things right. One of those things is this - the newest lodging option to emerge in town, and the only one worth considering for the right mix of luxury, value, and convenience. Set at the west end of the Mountain Village in a building clearly inspired by Whistler-Blackomb architecture, the four story structure, with its craftsman appliques and ground floor shops, is the only true manifestation of the faux ski village concept that has proliferated across the west to appear in Big Sky. Priced at about $200 a night for a 'ski suite' studio - most of them with private balconies and one floor offering ski run access - and moving up from there to the penthouse selections, the accommodations are warm, of residential quality (with their alder cabinetry and distressed bronze fixtures), and thoughtfully arranged and equipped. We stayed here for two nights near the end of the ski season, our room possessing a picture perfect view of Lone Peak (ask for a mountain view room if you can - it's a stunner of a vista). With a small kitchen to one side, fully outfitted with everything EXCEPT an oven and stove (annoying... though penthouse units have full kitchens) and a sizable bathroom to the left (decked in slate finishes with adorable details such as bas relief woodland creatures in the glass enclosed shower walls and a big wagon wheel coat rack, the room handily bests the standard hotel style accommodations available at other nearby hotels. A fireplace, large living area, and a space saving (albeit comfortable) Murphy bed - for which nightly turndown service is available, making the visit seamless - suggests that a great deal of thought was put into the hotel layout. At about 800 square feet, the room is perfect size for two or three people, with the sofa folding into another bed when needed. The remainder of the Village Center complex includes a sophisticated and baronial lobby space with wood burning fire, ski valet storage rooms on each floor and valet service slope side, a fitness center and outdoor hot tub, and access to the Chet's Knob ski run. Room service is available from the Andiamo Italian Grille downstairs (which is delicious and highly recommended - especially the Canyon Pizza, replete with tri tip steak and carmelized onion), while the Solace Spa offers in room treatments and supplies the room with high quality toiletries. Amenity wise, the Village Center is well nigh perfect. Guests also make use of the Huntley Dining Room's daily breakfast, which is just okay but better than most complimentary hotel food. Just stay away from the rubber ball scrambled eggs. Two nit picks: first, you cannot drive to the hotel (officially). Guests park 1/8 mile away and walk in, though bell service is available to carry your bags. This impairs some of the convenience of staying here. And when the path is uncleared of snow... as it was when we were there... expect a moment of frustration. Second, the quality of service of the front desk clerk and ski valet service is competent, but generally lacking in friendliness. I felt like I was intruding each time I entered the lobby... a little enthusiasm and a welcoming demeanor would be appreciated. Service and walk aside, the Village Center offers the most luxurious and convenient accommodation for the short term Big Sky visitor. More than anywhere else in Big Sky's Mountain Village, a visit here feels more like a Montana vacation... much more so than the Westin inspired Summit Hotel nearby. There is nothing quite like waking at sunrise to the alpenglow brilliance of Lone Peak bathed in purple and pink fingers of light, and the warm privacy of your own fire place at the end of a long ski day. Great time here. Light powdery snow. The runs here are huge. I've never skied somewhere with consistently wide runs. Big Sky has everything from double blacks to greens. We enjoyed skiing in the bowl and going fast on the long steep groomers. Stayed at Hill Condos and took the shuttle to the mountain, always on time. read more

Big Sky consistently has good snow because of high altitude. Bison burgers are a must. If the gondola is open, it's worth going, but make sure the visibility is good or it can be a bit daunting. The room is big and spacious, but bed was kinda too soft. The location is great if you are planning to hang out in big sky but it is quite a distance from west yellowstone entrance. The usual breakfast served, toasts, muffins, cereal, milk, yogurt, juice etc. But for the price i am paying, its not too bad. read more

This is our first time in Big Sky and have been happy here so far. We are staying at the Summit at Big Sky which is supposed to be the newer of the hotels around here, but the decor seems to be a little outdated and old fashioned. We have a one bedroom that's really roomy with a separate living room, full kitchen, dining area, and 2 full bathrooms. There's a small fitness center and a huge indoor hot tub that leads to an outdoor heated pool (which had the water temp just as warm as the hot tub). Now onto to the snowboarding/skiing conditions...... What I like best about this resort is that it is huge, so even though it's high season, I never have to wait in line for a lift and the slopes are almost bare. The lifts themselves move at somewhat of a slow pace, but the lack of lines certainly make up for it. I haven't been to the black diamond runs here, but I was told they are not groomed as well as the blues and greens. The lift tickets are a little pricey, but they give you a huge discount if you are part of the military. This place is great and I would love to come back in years to come to get my snowboarding on! read more

I suppose this may not be a fair review since I'm not an avid skier or even a lover of cold weather. Ice, snow, sleet, wind, no thank you, give me my Carolina weather. Compared to my memory of skiing in high school near the East Coast, this was far better reaching. I was incredibly impressed with the friendliness and helpfulness of all the Big Sky staff. Each person I encountered went out of their way to help me, make small talk, or suggest restaurants or breweries in the area. One of the staff even found our group to be so fun he followed us up as we got better to encourage us. I was very pleased with all the activities (skiing, snow tubing, snowmobiling) and the staff. If you're looking for a place where you can find all your snow sports and endless cold weather activities in one place, this is your ticket. read more

Amazing snow and very nice people, I am in big sky right now and it's my first day, I also went last year to learn to ski for the first time. I had a instructor and she was very nice and helpful she thought me very well and she is going to teach me again, the lift lines can be pretty hectic but there is a large variety of lifts to go on. It is good for all types of people, park rats beginners, intermediate (me), and advanced. The cabins are nice with 4 story's and a hot tub (depending on where you stay) the hotel does not look bad either, there is even a spa. There are actually a surprising amount of restaurants but not my shopping, this is not the party type place and is more serious but very nice people, you will be fine with a speaker pretty loud before someone is mad, I am not old enough to drink but there is alcohol here and some people sneak it on the lift, I wouldn't recommend doing it. Very fun it is amazing for everyone. read more

This update is primarily for the lessons here since there doesn't seem to be a separate entry for the mountain sports school. This year was my third time in Big Sky and after hemming and hawing about taking a lesson for quite a while I decided to give it a try. Prices seemed high ($90 for a half-day group lesson) but I felt like my skills had plateaued and I could use some instruction from a professional. The first pleasant surprise I had was that "group" lessons were anything but. Granted, this was during a weekday during a slower part of the ski season but when we met up there were three instructors for the higher level classes and only four students. We did a warm up run, split into small groups and I ended up getting an instructor just for myself. After we split up I quickly saw that my instructor (Pablo) really knew his stuff, and was quite good at teaching. I was surprised how much more I enjoyed skiing after just a half day of instruction. There were a couple of runs (Lone Tree & the Headwaters Bowl) that I thought were out of my league beforehand that I was comfortably able to tackle after my class. The lesson I took was a great experience and in the future I think I'll splurge for at least a half day class whenever I come back to Big Sky. read more

Great ski resort with a good mix of runs and types of runs. A few good sets of green and blue cruisers, some good sets of blue and black bump runs and tree runs and then a good amoutn of double black terrain off the tram and the Challenger lift. It has a lot of skiable area and a good mix and a decent funnelling to the main base without too many catwalks. The best part was the lack of crowds. I had always heard people go there just for the reason, but it is true. I guess it is in part the somewhat fewer people go there than some other well known resorts and also that the mountain is really large, and probably most importantly there isn't a major metro area within driving distance. Regardless of the reason, we didn't wait in a lift line more than 1 minute the entire time we were there. Probably the only thing that keeps it from being clearly 5 stars is that there are not a ton of high speed lifts so a few of the most fun places to ski seemed to be served by slower older lifts. read more

SO MUCH FUN! What a great ski resort. It is relatively large, which most people don't know. We stayed at Cabins at Moonlight over in the Moonlight Basin and we enjoyed the heck out of our 7 days of skiing/snowboarding. We rarely waited in any lift lines, especially on the Moonlight Basin side (which we recommend). Overall, Big Sky as a destination is pretty damned cool. Nice people, no lift lines and not as many 'posers' as in most ski destinations...which we have definitely grown tired of at destinations like Mammoth (which has NO snow right now anyway), Aspen, etc. The ONLY complaint I would have is more of advice....get a real grocery store that isn't a 10 mile drive down a steep hill to get to. The local grocery is a 7-eleven in disguise. We are definitely heading back ASAP! I think that if you haven't experienced Big Sky/Moonlight Basin in your lifetime...you have missed out. But they kind of 'keep it a secret' for a reason... read more

My girlfriend and I stayed at the Village Center in a studio room on the last week of the ski season and our stay was wonderful. The Village Center was clean and quiet and the room was fantastic. It featured a nice kitchenette with a big microwave, kitchen sink, dishes and silverware, dishwasher, large fridge, toaster, nice HD TV, beautiful decor and a comfortable Murphy bed. There were also spacious wardrobes and dressers so there is plenty of room to stow your ski gear. Not to mention the fireplace, gorgeous bathroom, spacious shower, comfy robes...you get the idea. It was a luxurious and comfortable room with a fantastic view of the mountain. The skiing was great, the rooms was relaxing and wonderful, the heated pool was marvelous and best of all, we loved the peace and quiet we had with a view of Lone Peak. We look forward to staying here again. This was our second stay in a Village Studio and we would highly recommend it to friends and family. read more

From my experience their mountain biking is some of the best in the nation, and me being a beginner, had a fantastic time riding on their trails because when we got more comfortable, there was always another run that was perfect and just hard enough. That is why Big Sky's the perfect place to go when you are feeling a little adventurous. During the year Montana has some very extreme seasons, such as getting feet of snow during the winter and having hot and humid weather during the summer. This causes Big Sky to be able to create fun and adventurous activities year round. During the winter months, they have amazing snow that leads to it being a fantastic ski resort. In the summer and warmer months when the snow melts, there are mountain bike trails that open up and the lifts that run year-round. These different types of activities in different seasons makes them a fantastic destination year-round. Their ski and mountain bike trail space may be intimidating, but the wide range of difficulty and terrain makes it much more approachable. For skiers and mountain bikers that are just beginning and trying to learn, there are plenty of runs and trails that are not as challenging and are very easy to help them through the process. For intermediate and expert skiers and mountain bikers, there are many challenging runs and places to go to get them the adrenaline that they are seeking. The most famous of these challenging places being Lone Peak, with numerous different runs spanning from blues to triple black diamonds. These challenging runs span the entirety of the skiable space and can make a day out of just a couple of runs. This wide range of difficulty makes Big Sky a very easy and approachable place to learn or try something new. Overall, Big Sky, Montana is an exceptional ski and mountain bike resort because of its massive skiable area and mountain bike trails, activities year-round, and the wide range of difficulty that creates opportunities for everyone. This mountain is HUGE !!! It is likley the best mountain i have ever skied west of the Mississippi. The people were great and we took a private lesson with Brenna Kelleher and she taught us so much and many of us have been skiing for 30 years. She was fantastic and patient. Big Sky is a fun resort if you stay at one of the ski-in/ski out places. If you stay else where and want to come up to enjoy the area, parking is horrible. The lighting is extremely poor or non existent at night if you want to walk from some of the local condos. You walk on the road and run the risk of being hit. There are NO sidewalks. You you have several options to eat, from cheap to expensive. You can no longer go to Moonlight lodge as it is for owners only now. The Lodge is not part of Boyne Resorts. It was once the Holiday Inn and the rooms still look the same. Lift lines are never long compared other major resorts. The reason they do not get a 5 star is the cancellation policy as absurd, they charge your credit card for first night in 30 days. That is why most business travelers will never stay slope side. Reconciling your receipt is a corporate nightmare. read more

This was my first time in Big Sky, but my in-laws (whom I was traveling with) had been here many times. We stayed at the Shoshone which was ideally located for skiing in and out of. The decor of our room (1 bedroom + murphy bed in the living room) was cozy and best described as "modern lodge." A very comfortable place! The skiing was beyond compare both for me (just learning) and my family (black diamond skiers). They groom the slopes to perfection and there is so much room to ski you never feel crowded. That was key for me as I was slowly pizza-ing down everything. :) No waiting for lifts and the employees were so kind to me as a beginner, slowing down the lift for me to get on and even returning a ski that had fallen off. The lodge has a couple restaurants (Chet's is great and open latest) and the morning breakfast buffet is to die for! Hot tub with a swim-out heated pool, very refreshing for sore ski muscles. We keep returning to BS every 2 years for week vacations usually around Christmas or New year. This is where 5 stars comes. While this place is spectacular about snow I really want to focus my opinion on other items Seems every year there is less to do at Resort for adults and kids after skiing. This year we discover that little coffee shop located in lobby is gone!! And not replaced with anything similar. Few years ago there was outside little shop with food set up in central courtyard .. gone again As far as I remember it was always busy at lunch times and offered international foods items Also seems like there is very limited or less functions for kids to have fun after outside activities. It's a joke to set up one event for kids ages from 4-16 ( like there is one now ) Whoever is in charge of entertainment events is definitely blind. Maybe he or she should pay a visit to Other resorts where they have great kids/ teenagers programs. For after hrs - Big Sky resorts gets zero stars Bonus stars ( I am being cynical) - in cinema they removed all custom chairs and temporary put restaurant chairs. And all this magically happen right at hottest season of the year!! Why they did not swap them overnight with ones being custom made - great planning BS!! In room we had slight problem with toilet - after 30 min trying to call front desk and housekeeping I went down to verbally report it - done. Would you imagine it took them 6 hrs to send someone to fix it!!! read more

On our first day ever at Big Sky, we got left to be "on our own" at the bottom of Shedhorn Chairlift at 2P. After we waited 30 mins at the chair lift with the lift operators only saying it could be another 30-40 minutes "if at all before chair restarts", people began walking out. There were no Ski Patrols in sight. Being our first day and not knowing the hill we joined the other 30-40 people walking out. This was a 45 minute hard up hill hike to get to a catwalk exit. When we finally were able to ski back down to the bottom of the hill, we went into the Base Camp office to file a complaint. No manager was available so the staff "texted" (guess not urgent enough to call) a manager. After waiting 15 mins., no manager showed up, so we left our name and number and the staff stated they will call shortly. Never received a call from a manager or anyone from the Big Sky staff. Very poor customer service! read more

I have skied throughout California, Oregon, Washington, Sun Valley, and now big sky. Big sky trumps them all! The employees are well trained to be attentive, positive, and helpful. The mountain is enormous with the ability to keep a skier or boarder entertained for days! It seems to lack much in the way of very beginner areas but the ski school seems to be very effective in preparing children and new people to the snow. We had two full days of skiing there and had it covered the mountain. The runs are long which help you improve. Multi hi speed quads and memorable Covered and warmed eight high speed quad lifts are amazing! We were able to ski so much more because of the speed of a lifts! Unfortunately they are lagging in food service on the mountain. Not having looked into it, we ended up at a restaurant called Everett's midway on the mountain that was expensive And slow to get us back on the slopes. Never seen one of these before! We like the more informal cafeteria style of California resorts. Fast, tasty, and simple to navigate. read more

we had so much fun staying in the big sky condos and skiing all week. Our skiing lesson was so much fun and our instructor Jade made it super helpful and enjoyable. we will miss the friendly fox that came to our door every night to say hello and the super nice staff that helped us with whatever we needed. From beginning to end this place was fabulous. Understated elegance, unpretentious and inviting slopes and activities besides skiing. The people are so friendly. The shuttle service is very user friendly and punctual. The skiing was BIG! The food was excellent, but make reservations before you go. The shared shuttle to and from Bozeman airport was seamless. There was literally not one thing to complain about. If you like to ski and avoid the crowds, this is your place. read more

Should the Big Sky ski and summer resort worry about losing convention and ski business because of its political and employment practices? Conservatives could avoid the resort because it employs large numbers of foreign workers under H2B and J1 temporary visa programs. Liberals could avoid the resort because the foreign worker programs reduce area wages and have a negative impact on the community. Big Sky has a long history of corrupting capitalism and labor markets by importing large numbers of foreign workers, many of whom return year after year and are not temporary. Then there is the issue of perceived safety. The ski lifts at the Big Sky resort breakdown frequently, much more than skiers report at other ski areas. There is a general perception that the combination of ever-increasing prices, far above inflation, and poor service is pricing out locals and is not a good deal for anyone. A reputation for poor maintenance, poor training and high staff turnover cannot be helpful for drawing customers. read more

I loved this resort. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. They had designated staff to not only open the door EVERY time upon arrival, but also assist you with any baggage to your room. The decor was wonderful and fit the "cowboy" theme. The Rooms were nice but I rated 4 stars because the rooms were conjoined by 2 doors. It reminded me of a motel set up. Other than that & the expensive price, I would say this Hotel was amazing. The only other downside was that no quick cheap bite-to-eat places were very close by. Every meal I ended up spending $80+ for 2 people. Also I forgot my running shoes for hiking and had to purchase $150 shoes because that was the cheapest in the area. I have been wanting to visit Big Sky for years even before The obsession to explore every single National Park there is. Big Sky's raw beauty is unparalleled in the many places I've ventured in the wild Wild West and the west coastal shores. It is truly a gift to be in Quiet and be in the wilderness where nature surrounds you and there is nothing that is fake. As a city girl I still appreciate the efforts by the resort to make accommodations comfortable and convenient for guests. I especially found the shuttle extremely convenient as well as the variety of properties you can choose from on or off Lone mountain. The progressiveness of the ski resort also shows in their commitment to continued modernization. In addition the town itself seems to be planning ahead on how to alleviate current issues (such as traffic management) which are the by-product of progress and growth. The particular property we stayed at was a little dated but it was the only property with a 90-feet water slide pool which is a highlight for kiddos. They do not have one single place to get good food in this entire resort. They don't mark their trails so that you can know where you are on the mountain. They don't mark mogul and bumpy areas, a real draw back if you don't like that kind of skiing, because once you drop in and realize it it's too late to get out and on to an actual trail. They say their trails are groomed, but they sure don't seem to be. You need to drive at least 8 miles for a decent meal. Way overpriced, and way under delivered. The only plus is the mountains not crowded at all. After spending a few days here, I can see why. I'll take the crowds of Breck, Vail, and Park City over this place every day.
