For true enthusiasts of skiing and snowboarding. Big Sky was such a good change of pace from the average colorado summit area resorts. Everyone was there to ride unique terrain and take advantage of the diversity. I planned my trip to push my riding past the plateau I hit during my times in Colorado. I only get to take 1-2 trips a year and wasn't willing to waste it away on average riding. I made sure to hit the lone peak tram, take the liberty bowl into the Bavarian Forest, and spent a full day riding the south face. You WONT find Big Sky overcrowded with tourists. Instead you will come across down to earth, like-minded individuals who are passionate about skiing and snowboarding. Thanks for the good times! read more

We love Big Sky, Montana! Definitely the best terrain and ski slopes in the country. Great snow conditions this winter. Rarely any lift lines and you have the slopes to yourself. The kids ski school is great and the instructors keep it fun for the little ones. We did the Lone Mountain Sleigh Ride dinner which was fabulous (our second time doing it). I've been coming to Big Sky for over 38 years (since it opened). It is definitely my favorite place to ski! read more

The mountain is fabulous. We stayed at rhe summit lodge which is not very good. It could be but it's pooly run. We had to call several times to have our room cleaned, and when they finally did come, the staff partially made the bed, didn't touch the pillows, didn't bring coffee, left dirty cups and didn't bring clean towels. It's really unfortunate as it has wonderful terrain and great views. I forgot to mention that our first room didn't have heat. They had to move us. read more

Big Sky is amazing. We lived in Bozeman for 13 years and kept a house here even though we've moved because we love this place so much. It's world class skiing with no wait. There is so much terrain that I am still discovering parts of the mountain and am challenged after 13 years. Andesite and Challenger are fantastic lifts for intermediate to advanced skiers. If it's a clear day head up the tram for a run, or just stop and admire the view before riding it back down. Head down Silver Knife and pull into The Cabin for a great lunch or apres ski beverage. They have a great deck to soak up the sun during spring skiing. The food there is superior to the Pinnacle and more moderately priced--usually without the wait. During the summer there is a ropes course, and zipline tour. You can also ride the lift up for a great view, or bring your bike and a strong set of nerves for downhill fun. Also, you can stay at Moonlight and access Big Sky easily via the Iron Horse lift. It is a quieter scene up there, so if that's not what you're looking for then best to stick to the big sky or meadow village. read more

Just spent the holiday in Big Sky and I will definitely be back in the future. What a great mountain to ski. The place is HUGE! They are not kidding when they say biggest skiing in the America. There are plenty of runs to ski of board for any skill level. This truly is a great place to explore, from the training ground at the Mesa Base to the Chutes near the tram. One of the most surprising aspects of the mountain was just how under crowded it was throughout the day. I know from experience just how crowded mountains can be during the holiday season, having skied most of the major mountain resorts in Colorado in the past. Skiing at Big Sky was a dream in comparison. No lines on the ski lifts once you are on the mountain. 90% of the time I could ski to the bottom of any lift and not have to wait at all. It made for a much more enjoyable experience as I did not have to wait around ever and I could spend more time on the mountain rather than in line. With so few people on the mountain I had plenty of wide-open runs that I had all to myself. Being able to ski in powder from open to close was an amazing experience that I have never experienced anywhere else. I would highly recommend giving Big Sky a try the next time you are looking for a place to explore during the ski season. read more

If you are a skier, it doesn't get any better than Big Sky Resort. Great snow, friendly people, terrain ranging from gentle groomed cruisers to steeps, moguls and trees that will challenge anyone and on most days absolutely no lift lines. I've been coming to Big Sky for many years and will continue to do so. Over the years, on mountain amenities continue to improve and you'll find great food at several on mountain restaurants. The Summit or The Lodge are great places to stay. The Cabin, Peaks, Montana Jack and Moonlight Lodge and Yeti Dogs all offer great food and variety depending on your mood (avoid M R Hummers... See other reviews for it). The terrain is aggressively graded so some of the Blue runs would be Black at other resorts and their Black terrain would be double black at other places so work up to your comfort level. There are, of course gentle green runs that are fun and go on forever. Overall, if you want a great place to ski, you won't go wrong with Big Sky. read more

We've been coming here for a few years and despite the fabulous mountain we're now having second thoughts about return visits due to the severe under-investment. We're in the middle of a week's visit in late Feb./early Mar., Swift Current is down once again and the mountain is mostly inaccessible. The owners (Boyne Corp.) need to either get their acts together or sell to a more responsible group. read more

Just finished our second weeklong ski trip to Big Sky and we have decided it will be an annual tradition. I almost don't want to write this, because we'd kinda like to keep Big Sky to ourselves : ) here are a few of our favorite things - plenty of ski trails for all levels; no lift lines; ski school (especially - best adult ski instructor/naturalist/all around cool guy Jonathan Bowe); low key, relaxed atmosphere throughout resort & area; Buffet breakfast at Huntley Lodge; Lunch at Yeti Dogs or Black Kettle Soup Company at 9,700 ft; Après ski at Scissorbills Saloon; dinner at Buck's T-4; CR Creations Yarn Shop (beautiful yarn if you knit, lessons if you want to learn how or local, handmade items for you to buy); shuttle that takes you everywhere and best of all - everyone - resort crew, locals & other visitors are friendly and make you feel right at home. This is the best vacation place ever! Let me start off with how amazing the hotel is. The staff are amazing and very kind. They will take your luggage up to your room and make you feel welcome. The front side of the hotel has a view of the beautiful snow, the slopes, and obviously the Lone Peak. The rooms are amazing they are spacious and nice. When you go to the lobby you have breakfast which is also amazing. You can walk right out and you will be by the ski valet and the slopes. Let me say something about the ski instructors. They are super nice, kind, funny, encouraging, etc. ngl the first time I went it was my second time skiing I was bad. I got frustrated. But the instructors were nice and calming and kept pushing you (in a good way). The people operating the lifts and bluetube were also nice and encouraging. The instructors stood out to me the instructors at steamboat would get mad and act like they hated true it job. The ones here actually liked their job and skiing. Whisky Jacks... Not so good. I think the cook has been drinking the whisky. Pretty bad food and bad service to boot.

We have skied at Big sky for the past seven years as a large family of 12 adults and 7 children. This year 6 of 7 kids were in the ski school and the ski school instruction was incredible. Even when it was 14 degrees out the kids ages 5-10 had an absolute blast. The instructors were incredibly conscientious and attentive to each kid. Most of the groups had a ratio of 3:1 or 4:1, skier:instructor. The skiing for the adults is better than most places we have been and the mountain has lots of terrain. There are NEVER lift lines and everyone is very friendly. Parking and dining is convenient, and the online information and forms for registering for childcare, ski school and purchasing tickets is easy. read more

A real disappointment. As a seasonal staff member I have lost any respect for Big Sky Resort. Communication from management is awful. Most of the staff are transient bums whose life goal is to get high on a daily basis. The culture of the resort is a hands off policy by management when employees misbehave and act out. The skiing is ok, but not as good as Utah. read more

I had a generally pleasant stay at The Summit Hotel for the Vine and Dine and Moonlight MusicFest but my experience at Basecamp when I went in for an early morning expedition was extremely sour. I arrived a few minutes early to sign waivers and was chased out of the office by an employee who later said she was the "lead." Nobody calle​d me in when they opened, I waited and had to go back to the desk and ask if they were ready for me. I realized I was promised a $20 discount to take the earliest tram, but the rate had gone down that day, so it turns out I had paid full price. I sought clarification on this from the person who was checking me in and Chelsea the 'lead' shouted over him to say, "She needs to pay the price the computer says!" I got a refund of around $5 incl taxes. I didn't consider this enough of an incentive to wake up so much earlier than I normally would, but I settled for paying "what the computer said" ($5-ish less than I originally paid) to speed up the check-in process. I filed a complaint with the concierge about the staff member and the manager who called, five days later, to talk through the issue didn't appear to want to listen. She described the conversation as unproductive, perhaps because I was not asking for any compensation. read more

Fabulous resort with amazing x country skiing just down the road. My only complaint is that our room in the Huntley Lodge had walls as thin as paper so we listened to barking dogs and drunk people as we tried to sleep. Breakfast buffet much like you might get in a college cafeteria. But it's all about the spectacular scenery and superb recreation here at Big Sky, so I highly recommend a visit. read more

Stayed in Big Sky for a week in July. Nice place, but wouldn't want to limit our time to just doing Big Sky things in the summer. We simply used it as a homebase for several days in Yellowstone. We did do the zipline (quite expensive!) and rode the ski lift for a nice scenic view. Didn't in any of the restaurants in Big Sky as we were staing in one of the 4 bedroom Powder Ridge cabins. Cabin was great. Kids loved the hot tub. Nice to have all those bedrooms and three bathrooms for our family of 6. Kitchen had all we needed to make our own meals. read more

We skiied here 4 days and had an amazing time. We stayed in the Saddleridge townhomes. Loved the views of the mountain, the townhome was beautiful and the private hot tub was amazing! There were ski trails for all levels, the conditions were great and the people who worked at the resort were friendly. We loved this place! read more

We rented a cabin on the property for a summer family getaway. The cabin was beautiful, well appointed, well maintained. Had everything we needed for a family of five +1. We enjoyed our time at the resort as well. We took a ride to the to of Lone Peak (recommended) and enjoyed the free lift tickets during our stay. A lunch at Panama Jack was very good -- excellent craft beer selection. We did have some issues on check in, but the staff responded quickly and effectively. I really got the sense that they cared a great deal about my family's comfort and they did everything they could to make us happy. Issues will arise from time to time. It's the way the staff responds that tells you what kind of an organization you're dealing with. Well done, Big Sky Resort. read more

I took a group of about 30 people to Big Sky this year from California, we decided to drive through the night on Sunday and arrive around 8a.m. on Monday. Of course, we knew that we would be exhausted from a full night of driving and being up for over 24hrs, so we booked the rooms for Sunday (knowing they would be ready for us when we get there early morning monday.) I was driving into the resort just ecstatic to get in a bed and sleep. However, when we got there we were informed that our room was in fact not ready. Even though it should have been ready the previous day around 3. We were told that it would be about an hour for our room to be ready. They heard that we would be arriving early in the morning and decided that they could put off the cleaning until the next day. We showed back up in an hour and it was still not ready, we ended up waiting another 4 hours in the lobby (still exhausted and now up for 29hrs.) We were comped with one free drink and told that they would not work with us further, and that the sales team would contact us. We never got contacted and at the end of the week went back up to the front desk, where we were called liars and told that we could not get the information for any of their sales team. So in the end I had to pay a full night stay for the 30minutes I was able to use it (meaning the room was ready 23.5 hours late.) I found that Big Sky resort was very unprofessional with the way they went about this and gave us empty promises only to try and hope that the problem went away. My group spent a lot of money on this trip and was hoping to be able to do it yearly, however I will be looking for somewhere new for next year. Oh and the room was quite dirty, all the dishes were dirty and gross, we had to go through everything we used and rewash it, half the chairs in the room were unusable as they were all broken. read more

Probably more a 3.5 star place, but I'll be generous because I love the location. Big Sky, MT is an amazing place full of nice people, incredible nature actives, and great food. The hotel itself? A little worn, and the rooms are not particularly inspiring. But, the massive hot tub with mountain views was very fun...albeit it could use some maintenance. The lobby area was my favorite part of the hotel to hang out at, there were some nice Montana touches. We went there during the summer, so it was pretty low-key. read more

We made reservations to visit BS to attend a friend's wedding. My husband had unexpected surgery scheduled for the same week to have a pacemaker inserted so we could not make the trip. I called 10 days before our arrival to explain the situation and the representative could have cared less. I even offered to provide a doctor's note and she said it wouldn't do any good. $900 down the drain. I will never visit this resort and will tell every one of my friends to avoid it. No sympathy whatsoever for a traumatic time in our family's lives. read more

Love at first sight. Spent a week at Big sky, Chet Huntley lodge which was fab. The breakfast bar is unreal- most people had to be carted out from eating too much breakfast ! The best breakfast bar ever ! Skiing was great with short lift lines. The Peaks Carabiner lounge , located in the Summit Hotel was the bomb. Just leaving after 2 days of amazing skiing. Great powder on the first day. This is a BIG mountain offering something for everyone. Freakish steeps to long green/blue runs for the whole family. Service at all levels was exceptional. From the lift people to the rental shop to the restaurants (recommend Whiskey Jack's), everyone was outgoing, kind and seamed like they enjoyed being there. Our family loved Big Sky! We stayed in the ski-in, ski-out Cowboy Heaven rental homes (with individual hot tub) and truly enjoyed ourselves on and off the mountain. There were so many trails to choose from, and most felt like we had them to ourselves. We also slipped away for a day trip to Yellowstone which was truly magical. Wow. This is one of America's best kept secrets. It's only about 1 hour from the Bozeman airport. We were there the last week in February 2018. Snow was amazing and this mountain is enormous. We never waited more than 1-2 minutes to get on a chairlift. Plenty of great restaurants to choose from and just about any service you could want. We had groceries and skis brought right to our rental house. I travel out west each year with a group and we go different places each year. It's been 7 years since we went to Big Sky. Not sure why we waited so long. Lodging prices are significantly less than you'll find at resorts like Vail or Park City (still love places) and the mountain has incredibly diverse terrain for all skill levels. read more

First visit to Big Sky and we thoroughly enjoyed! Took a summer Anniversary trip in June and Loved every bit of it. The base camp had plenty of adventure to offer. The Adventure Zipline, Lone Peak Expedition and Disc Golf Courses being our favorites! If you are a Disc Golfer, you gotta check their courses out! Terrible service Booked a condo through Big Sky resort, we were told we couldn't check in until 5:00 p.m. , really? 5.p.m. Rolls around condo is still not ready, lady at the front desk is rude and obviously didn't care. Tried to get a discount on the room, did happened and didn't get into the condo until 6.15 p.m, the where still cleaning it. Incredible place. This year I experienced the longest lift line in eight years, it was eight minutes long. I am one who does not like riding up alone. Toward the end of the day I tend to ski by myself. If I am to ride a lift with someone there are times where I have to wait in the lift like for someone with whom I can ride up. The line are really non-existent. The skiing has something for everyone. There are a nice variety of greens, always groomed. Blues that are usually groomed as well. If you are looking for tree skiing, there is plenty of that. And the tram will take you to some cool areas to ski. You will never be bored. As one review said, no posers...this place is for skiers. Good restaurants are limited but they do exist. There are one or two in the Mountain Village and the same in the Meadow. If you are a beer lover, there are plenty of imported micro beers if Lone Peak Brewery does not satisfy your taste buds. All the workers in Big Sky are genuinely kind. There is no pretense. Everyone from the lifties to the Director of Housekeeping takes the time of their day if you need help. The best kept secret is Yolanda at Store-n-Ski. Always ready with a smile when you arrive at the mountain, and a kind good bye when you head home...all for free! Big Sky is the best kept secret in skiing. read more

We were here during the summer - so . . . We did enjoy our stay very much. The staff at the Shoshone Condominium Hotel was so friendly and helpful. There are a couple different lodging places at this property. We thoroughly enjoyed our condo - nicely decorated. Appliances were older but worked fine. Nice to be able to wander on the grounds - stores and eating places all available by foot or by car. There was something for everyone there - rock-climbing, guided walks, play area for kids, etc. It is a long walk from the underground parking area back to the hotel. read more
