This place might be my favorite experience in all of the Wisconsin Dells. So much fun. I have not been to a drive in since the mid 90s and was super excited to get to share this experience with my children and this place did not disappoint. They have 2 screens which I had not seen at a drive in before but it works well. The audio plays over fm radio stations and they have radios to rent if you don't bring your own or want to run your car battery down. The food is reasonably priced and they have a great selection that I would say surpasses any of the local chain theaters I go to back home. Burgers, hot dogs, nachos, sloppy joes, popcorn, cheese curds, soda, candy, corn dogs, onion rings, French fries, grilled cheese, pizza, and tacos off the top of my head. Just a huge selection of options. The movies say they start at dusk but add about 15 minutes to that based on our experience. It makes sense, dusk is easy to search for to find the time but it isn't really dark enough yet. So just be aware it's a little later and if you stay for the full double feature it is going to be a late night. But totally worth it. read more

I love the nostalgic feel of a drive-in movie. It reminded me of my childhood, watching at night with my family and enjoying a movie outdoors on a big screen. There are three screens and plenty of space. The entrance fee is ten dollars per person. The concession stand serves classic snacks and grubs. I wouldn't change anything about Big Sky! read more

Loved it! So glad this place exists. Old-timey, totally not a tourist trap, legit drive-in theater. $10 per person for a double feature of Barbie and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. We laid comfortably on the lawn on a blanket with pillows behind the car with the hatch open. Record high temperatures earlier in the day, but perfectly breezy and mild with a clear, starry sky overhead. I'm a little sad that I didn't get to visit their snack bar because I had an urgent dental problem that morning (holiday weekend, of course) so there wasn't anything I could enjoy except the luke warm water I brought with. I promise to hit them up next time because this hidden gem is worth supporting. read more

Who doesn't love a drive-in theater on a warm summer eve? I find drive-in theaters charming and seek them out wherever we go (there's not a lot them left). I've been to drive-in theaters in California, Idaho, and now, Wisconsin. This is by far my favorite, for a few different reasons: 1) Green! I've been to many a-dusty drive in. The fact that you park on lush grass here is amazing. 2) Two screens. Whaaat?!? Having more than one double feature to choose from is awesome. One thing to note: they do ask that you choose one double feature and commit to it (to be clear, you can leave after the first movie--or really at any point--but no watching one movie, then driving over to watch the next movie on the other screen, which is apparently not allowed by the film companies and is completely out of Big Sky's control). 3) Robust concessions. Their concessions are more than just your usual popcorn, candy, soda fare. They actually have a grill! We got cheeseburgers, fries, popcorn and drinks when we were there! Like most modern drive-ins, you listen to the movie via your car radio. You can sit inside or outside your car (on lawn chairs). The prices are per person, not per vehicle. Beyond all that, it's your usual watch a movie under the stars magic. Get to it! read more

The place is old and the bathroom needs major updates!! Do not order the food! One year while there we ordered burgers and we got raw burgers cooked by teenagers playing on their phones!! Never again!!! It's fun for the movie just bring your own snacks!! read more

This is a really fun place that you will rarely find elsewhere. The sound was great and the screen had a much better picture than I anticipated. The concessions were clean and fair priced. My only complaint is that it is fairly pricey for 20+ year old movies. Overall really fun spot and I'd come back in a second. read more

I had a fantastic experience taking my daughter to her first drive-in movie. The admission price ($8 for adults / $5 for children) is a tremendous value for 2 first run movies. The concession stand offers the standard movie snack foods at reasonable rates and in addition, also serves hamburgers and sloppy Joe's. Cash only. Very poor customer service. I would give them a zero if it's possible. We had 6 people in the car, we paid to watch 2 feature movies in Screen 2, but before the 1st feature movie started, 3 people in our group wanted to watch the featured film in Screen 1 instead. You can literally see both screens from where we parked but they wanted to situate themselves closer to Screen 1. The person checking didn't allow them even if they said they are not switching between 2 screens, they will watch the 2 feature film in Screen 1, but they were told they already paid for Screen 2 and even if the movie is just about to start, they can't change. That's not all. We bought food for 4 families together, approx 16 orders of burgers, hotdogs, chicken fingers. We were in the middle of the line, probably 10 in front of us and 10 behind us. They decided to fill all the short orders, even the 10 behind us and work on our "big order" last which made us miss 30 mins of the movie and they're not even apologetic abt it. We tried to follow up on our order when we saw people who ordered behind us got theirs first but we were brushed aside. We told them, we don't expect our whole order to be ready all at once, but they are delaying its completion when they keep giving part of our order to other people. So frustrating!!! It ruin our whole experience. It was the first time we were there and wanted to start a tradition and invite more friends but will not do that now! By the way, as for the burger, the beef was not 1/3 lb and it was gummy/hard that my kids ended up throwing them anyway! All that after waiting so long and it wasn't even good enough to eat! read more

It's good that this still exists. I used to go with my family when I was a kid and I have always romanticized it. In practice it's OK, but not as convenient as a movie theater, especially because you have to wait until dusk to see the movie which this time of the year is 9pm, with the second movie playing at 11pm. read more

I totally enjoy this experience. Who doesn't like a double feature for a low cost? Not to mention that you can bring your own snacks/drinks which is a HUGE savings! You can just tune your car radio to the broadcasting station for the sound, so you don't need a radio box. It's not the most glamorous place, but hey. A fun way to spend a night(as long as the bugs aren't bad!). You'll get out pretty late, though...so plan to sleep in! read more

The toilets kept over flowing and one of the concession stand ladies kept coming out and plunging a long stick thing down in a drain into what I assume was the septic tank. She's then go back in the screen door and proceed serving concessions. Back and forth. Concession, sewage, concession, sewage and repeat.... This place is wonderful! If your kids have never been to the drive-in, take them here! Two movies for less than the price of what it costs at AMC? That alone would get me there. Plus this place allows you to bring pets, snacks, and you get to spend some time under the stars. Just wonderful. We didn't bring many snacks, and so we used their snack bar. Not bad for movie theatre pricing! Really sweet staff. Note: all of the biggest bugs in the area will flock to light... So I wouldn't suggest keeping your trunk open for sound unless you can find a way to turn out the lights. But that aside, the snack stand does carry bug repellant for you! I rely heavily on yelp when I travel. I'm from Chicago. We don't have anything like this so I wanted to take full advantage. The service was beyond great! The only negative is that they only take cash, which is also a positive because it keeps the prices low. Bring OFF with you when you go. I got several mosquito bites walking to the concession stand. They serve nachos, beef hot dogs, cheese fries, and popcorn. Food is good. It's what you would expect from a movie theatre concession stand. My kids (12 & 14) didn't appreciate it as much. They spent the whole time texting through the movie. My husband and I enjoyed. I would go again. read more

This was my absolute favorite part of our four day getaway to the Dells! The first night we arrived we wanted to do something low key. I had found a flyer at the motel we were staying at and we decided to go that night. We packed a cooler with beer for the old man and sparkling water for me brought some blankets, pillows, citronella candles and we were on our way. The theatre is located 2 miles outside of the dells in a cozy wooded area. At first it looked kinda shanty, but once the sun went down I felt like we were back in time. Luckily we own an SUV in which the back seats can be lowered and made into a little bed. We made a cozy little pallet lit the candles and enjoyed the movies in the fresh crisp summer air. The movies we saw were not ones I would go to normally, but the atmosphere made it totally worth it. The great thing was that you get to see two movies, the first was MIB 3 and the second Chernobyl Diaries. Loved that we got to see a scary movie at the drive in. Oh yes, they do have a little concession stand where you can buy buttery popcorn, burgers, old time candy, etc..Some things you need to bring to the drive in. 1. Car Drivers- Lawn chairs or blankets and pillows to make a little pallet. 2. Cooler packed with treats, just make sure to have a designated driver. 3. Bug spray and mosquitto coils. 4. Love this place! We're here on a Sunday night and there's almost nobody here. They show really good movies that are current ones in the theaters. The food is adorable and tastes amazing. You have to get the burgers with grilled onions! The only thing I don't like as much is that they charge you per person instead of per car. However, it doesn't seem that they charge you if you want to bring food in. If this place was closer to Chicago., I would be here every week. read more

Very poor customer service. No person answering phone calls - went to watch a movie on 4th of July, Saturday night, drove from out of town - waited 30minutes past start time of movie film to tell us they were having technical difficulties and movie won't be played tonight. We did get refunded our money for not being able to see the show but the woman didn't even apologize or seem sincere in anyway. Wouldn't this all be tested several times to be up and running before you brought everyone in to the theater? Please keep mine we got there right when the theater opened so we could get a good spot. We were waiting, set up in our car, for almost two hours! So disappointed and ruined our night plans for the holiday. They even asked for our paper back when we stopped at the front entry to get refunded (paper had FM radio channel and movie names). With COVID, why are they collecting everyone's papers- can't they just print new ones? Seriously gross! Wouldn't recommend this place - not worth it. read more

I have been going to this drive-in for about the past 25 years and just love it. It's nice to go see a movie with your kids where you don't have to worry about telling the kids to be quiet. Also if they fall asleep during the movie you don't have to get up and leave. It's also a family get together that does'nt cost you an arm and a leg to enjoy. If you really want to get comfortable you can bring yourself a couple of lawn chairs and just kick back and relax instead of being squeezed into too small of theatre seats. The guy that didn't enjoy the experience probably come to the movie in a bad mood anyways. Just an amazing place. We just saw Hercules and Transformers for $8 for adult, $5 for kids under 11. You can bring in your own drinks and food! The video was excellent and we used a boombox and interesting enough...the audio was amazing as one of the 14 year olds said! Gets kinda late with two movies when one starts close to nine, but bring chairs to sit out on or raise your hatch like we did on our CRV and the kids watched movies laying down. The food looked good and it was all prepared FRESH!. No onion rings/fries or burgers sitting under heat lamps from yesterday! Everyone who ordered that I spoke to said the food was great. The food was also priced very well. I can see why this place has been in business for 34 years! I will make this a once or twice a year event and see about neighbors going up. We drove over one hour to get here and it is worth it. The bathrooms were clean as stated in other reviews. Oh yeah, and both the 14 year olds want to bring other friends up soon too. Really fun place to see a movie. The whole drive-in experience is a thing I love, but if you don't like the drive in, whatever, suit yourself. The radio was never static-y for us, and the speakers work too - or roll down your windows and you can hear that way. The projector has just been upgraded to Hi-Def or whatever, and I thought "how much can it possibly matter in a Drive-In?" Well, it knocked my socks off; despite the picture quality not being a super high priority for me at the Drive-In, it was quite surprising just how great the high quality image looked, surreal in a way to see images that looked so crystal clear hanging in the air outside. The concession stand has reliably tasty / greasy fried foods, burgers, pizza, fish, popcorn & candy, but also some unexpected sammitches. Also a bonus - a play area for the kids, and an adjacent bar with cool antique game machines, decent prices on drinks, and a micro-brewed beer made just for the Drive-In. Very cool. (watch the closing times though - they close before the movies end) The bathrooms are clean enough for certain, and the crowd is friendly and easy going - a good balance between safe & laid-back. All in all a really memorable & affordable night out for the whole family (minus pets). read more
