(Only took me 2 months to get to this review and others, but I gotchu Brent!) Pizza head South Florida Native living in the PSL area and working in Stuart at the time (I literally just moved to the middle of nowhere in New Mexico, but shoutout to FLAWDA)...I randomly try the pie wherever I go, but I only ever bother reviewing it if it's exceptional or terrible enough to be memorable (check my other reviews kid, oh there's some pizza in there ) Stopped into Big Slice randomly one night during my wait time as a limo driver for a local company (gona leave them a 5 star also in a minute)...I saw their big bright and beautiful sign on the way to my clients drop off, and thought: "yea Ill hit that up" (even though I probably had Pizza like 5 dayz before...what can I say, at this point in my life a whole pie keeps for dayz...and in this economy ) ANYWAYs, I remember that it was either the divisional or conference round of the NFL playoffs, that the modest but well setup sitting / order area was very well lit, with fresh looking decour including a couple tables as well as a bar for a few high stools...and that it was busy, with lots of people picking up. I was immediately pleased by the attentiveness and focus of one of the young staff members (can't remember his name just now, but it was 3 people total including the owner), and was even more impressed and re-assured about 15 mins later, striking up conversation with the fast moving and visblibly focused chef-owner, Brent...I barely had my head from out from under the steaming hood of my fresh out the oven XL pie, throwing on a little cheese and pepper, when I heard him say "so how's that thing lookin' man?" (it was at that moment that in addition to looking amazing, that this pizza was guaranteed to be tasty) Brent was friendly and knowledgeable in giving me the low-down on how he came to be the new owner of the one and only Big-Bite pizza, and his mission to not only maintain but streamline and expand the reputation and original New York recipe, and while I didn't get a chance to ask him where he was from...I'm pretty sure the accent is a dead giveaway. This big slice used to have great pizza with quality cheese and the proper sauce. Over the last few years this establishment has changed its recipe to resemble a clone of a frozen pizza. The cheese itself is cheap and not the same quality as years past and they use less sauce which enables their pizza to be dry most times. Big Slice has been our go to pizza place for 20 years. They have always had great pizza and had the best wings. Something has drastically changed. A few weeks ago my husband and I ordered pizza and wings. The wings cost $16 for 10 and tasted terrible, like the chicken was spoiled. Also there were only 9 wings in each order of 10. The pizza was only so-so. Tonight we decided to give them another try. My family, including four children, was in town. We ordered three X-Large pizzas, garlic knots, cinnamon bites, and powdered sugar bites. The only edible things were the garlic knots. The rest of our almost $100 order went in the trash. We called ahead for quick pick up. You can find Big Slice Pizza in the same plaza with the CVS. We ordered The Works Pizza in the 18" XL size. It was enough to feed six adults. The Works is topped with Pepperoni, sausage, meatballs, bacon, green peppers, olives, mushroom, and onions. They layer a LOT of these ingredients, and then bake more cheeze on top of it. The crust is a crispy thin crust, and it's stable enough to hold everything on top of it. We also shared a dozen garlic knots for $4.99 These are fluffy puffs of bread DRENCHED in garlic-y oily goodness. They were so yummy, if you enjoy knots, I highly suggest ordering some. I told them that I would call them back in a minute with my other debit card and when I did, nobody answered. So I cover the state of Florida for work and every time I pass Palm City, I plan my meals according so that I can stop here for two slices and a coke. As many of you know, I'm from Brooklyn (where pizza is a religion) and Big Slice never disappoints. This one of my top 3 favorite pizza places in all of Florida. Having skipped lunch, I was incredibly hungry and ordered both the 2 slice special and the 6 chicken wings. Both are $5.50 each and includes a can of soda. By far, this is the best deal in town. I come here for the pizza, but trust me, you better not forget the wings. The order comes with 3 flats and 3 drums and they were some of the biggest and meatiest I have ever had. The drums we literally wider than my hand! They were perfectly cooked with just a touch of heat which is exactly the way I like them. If I lived closer I would be in here 3 times a week. For those of you who live within 10 miles of this place, you are seriously missing out and being unfair to your families if you don't eat here.
