Best wings I've ever had and the people working are amazing. I had the sweet tang and definitely recommended it.

This is my second visit to this great little restaurant. Visited a few weeks ago and had an…read moreexcellent experience. So, why review again? Experiences can be one-offs that aren't truly representative of the restaurant. You place your order at a station right at the entrance. They bring your food to your table. One note: you pour your own coffee (or tea in my case) at the coffee bar. Nothing fancy, with plastic ware, styrofoam cups and baskets for your food. But, as in my previous visit, the service was excellent. The girl taking your order is always pleasant and helpful and she will visit you during your meal to make sure everything is ok. I decided to try a different dish. This time I ordered the Taylor Ham and egg "hoagie" (they call it "pork roll" which means they come from south Jersey). In addition to my hoagie I also ordered a cinnamon roll. The delightfully fresh bread hoagie comes jam packed with two eggs and plenty of Taylor Ham. I ordered my eggs over easy to assure plenty of yolk and that's exactly how it arrived. Be forewarned, the sandwich is big (my brother took 1/2 home) so make sure you leave plenty of room or better still share with your guest. As mentioned, I also wanted to try their jumbo cinnamon roll which I had passed on, on my previous visit. The server asked if I wanted the cinnamon roll grilled. I chose to have it heated and buttered (via microwave), which threw a curve at my server who had obviously never had that request before however, it came out exactly as I had requested. A warm, moist cinnamon roll with melted butter provides the perfect salty/sweet balance that made this a delight to eat. Although full from our sandwiches, we couldn't stop until we demolished that jumbo cinnamon roll! The bottom line: As with all my reviews my "customer so what" ... would I come back? Since this is my second visit in the span of two weeks, the answer is obvious... absolutely.

Anyway we were hypnotized by the orchestra of people working in there. The food was really good: snapper, chicken kabobs and fried chicken. I've seen the other reviews and we had no problems with temperature and quality. The only complaint: we ordered fries and there was just too many of them. :). Do be aware portions are big. This is the kind of place I'd go to often if I lived here. I forgot to take pictures!

Took forever once seated to get food or any type of service. Eventually went to the bar to get a refill of drinks along with others in our crew. The menu is an absolute joke as there is a lot of fill on what they serve you but both my wife I chose the burger as it was the most likely to interpret what I'm ordering. One it came after about an 1 -1 1/2 hours the burger was ok and fry's looked like it was fried in old oil. They were cold and for the money it was not worth it. I think a Macdonald Big Mac would have tasted better at a fraction of the cost. $27 for a burger, cold fries and a small milk shake which I couldn't understand that addition. While sitting at the table I am getting dripped on by the AC duct as that portion is in front of the door opening and with humid air coming in hitting that cold duct it was condensation and dripping on the patrons. In this case me. The server was terrible in my opinion and didn't really cater to many of our needs but the restaurant feels obligated to charge 20% gratuities of 6 people or more. Now I understand that concept as foreign people don't tip like in their country or none at all but that is where the problem is. If a server is good or bad they still are get their tip and in this case there was no incentive for good service. If I am paying $27 for a burger and fries that server better attend to my needs quickly and efficiently. Not sure if I ever will return to this restaurant as it left a bad taste. I usually go by the baseball rule 1 2 3 strikes your out but what brought me over to 3 strikes is the stupid menu and pricing. I think I will make my own dinner at home and bring it to the causeway for a better view and cheaper food and much better food.

For our entrees, I had the seafood platter, my bride had the shrimp scampi. Finally for dessert we shared a slice of the caramel cheesecake. THE ATMOSPHERE: The restaurant is on the water with bar seating and white cloth table dining in several rooms. If you're looking for seaside dining Pirates Cove will suite you fine. THE FOOD: Our appetizers... My French onion soup was made like a traditional French onion soup with plenty of melted cheese and oodles of onions. There were plenty of mussels bathed in a delicious white wine and butter base for my brides mussels appetizer. Our entrees... My seafood platter featured a small serving of white fish, which was nice and juicy, two small stuffed shrimp, which were quite tasty, two scallops made properly (not under cooked and slimy or overcooked and rubbery). My brides shrimp scampi featured 5 small shrimp over a bed of linguine. The dish was well made with hints of garlic and butter in the balanced cream sauce. The dessert: Our caramel cheesecake dessert was creamy and rich. THE SERVICE: It's always a challenge for a server to serve large parties, but our server did great. Delivered our drinks in a timely fashion watched over us for any needed refills and clearly explained any questions we had. THE BOTTOM LINE: As always with my reviews, the "customer so what" would I return is complicated for the Pirates Cove. My answer... probably not. Why not if the food was prepared properly, the ambiance was fitting for a seafood restaurant and the service was fine? The answer lies in serving size, price and add on charges. I don't mind paying premium prices for a premium meal but Pirates Cove charged $40 for a seafood platter that should more realistically be called a seafood sampling. At $36 My wife's shrimp scampi should have featured large shrimp instead of the small shrimp she received. And, finally, the add on prices which included a 3% service charge and a whopping 21% tip. I don't mind tipping heavily for good service and our server would have probably gotten 25% if it was my choice. However, I HATE having a restaurant dictate what I'll tip! I understand mandatory tipping for a large party but I've never seen it set at 21%! As for the service charge, it was placed on every bill whether you paid with a credit card or not. One of my guests asked if that was a credit card fee (which I hate as well) and was told if he paid cash, our servers would take that fee off. How many people didn't know enough to ask that question, and end up paying that fee when paying with cash?? I hate underhanded trickery like that and discourage it by not returning. In summary you'll have to ask yourself before dining at Pirates Cove, is the food, ambiance and service quality worth the rest? If it is, enjoy. As for me, I'll skip it. There are too many other great seafood places that will provide quality dining, great service and atmosphere without the unwelcome luggage included.

It features bar and table service and a few outside sidewalk tables. The Service: Service was excellent. My server kept checking how I was doing without being overly obtrusive. My food came quickly and exactly as I ordered it. The Food: I ordered the corned beef hash, poached eggs, home fries, a biscuit and hot tea. My poached eggs were done to perfection. As always, I asked for "crispy" home fries and actually received actual "crispy" home fries. That's something that is always promised and seldom provided. My corned beef hash was well made but my fault, I failed to ask for "crispy" and they were as usual a bit undercooked. Unfortunately, they grilled the biscuits which I would have preferred served plain and they had no way to steam my milk for my tea. The bottom line: As always with my reviews the bottom line "the Customer so what", would I come back? The answer is... Yes. I'd remember to ask to make my corn beef hash crispy and to not grill my biscuit and I'd then have the near perfect (no steamed milk) breakfast.
