Very convenient after a hike, came here after hiking Mt Manuel and got the chicken fingers. They were very healthy, no grease and not much salt but they came out fast. Side salad was very good. When we checked into the lodge, we asked about dinner at the restaurant. The hotel manager said he had no idea if the restaurant was serving that night "they tell me nothing" is a quote. We approached a server and were told that since they were catering a wedding, they would be offering their lunch menu. We were totally OK with that. We were a party of 10 - 5 adults, a pregnant woman and 2 preschoolers. The server was friendly but the service sucked. We asked for the kids meals ASAP but they arrive after the adult meals and that was after a 50 minute wait. I ordered the hikers pasta with and additional order of chicken ($8.00) which equated to exactly 9 bite-sized pieces of overcooked under seasoned poultry. The pregnant woman and the youngest child were so exhausted they left before finishing their dinners. There are so few restaurants in the area, it's a shame this one is so poor. read more

This is in a perfect location in the Pfeiffer state park which makes it beautifully located for adventure and relaxation! This is a no frills spot but the room was clean, the bed was comfortable, and is off grid when in the cabins away from the lodge. There are likely various room types, ours had a balcony off the back door with a small patio set which was nice and overlooked the walking path. Our room stayed pretty cool overall, but it was a bit stuffy so it was nice to find a fan in the room to help circulate the air when we were in the room. A skylight helped with natural lighting and gave the reminder of sleeping under the trees. The lodge offers a mini-market/gift shop, a restaurant, a cafe, and lounge area to soak up the WiFi. We took the opportunity to be offline which was lovely. All rooms come with a game and deck of cards, but we brought our go-to favorite, dominos. I didn't see a pool when looking for services online but there is one. There are walking paths around the property and trails to adventure all within the grounds. Even river access and swimming options, this place has it all! We'd absolutely come back again. It was a peaceful spot to get away for a couple days. read more

As much as I love Big Sur and the area surrounding the Big Sur Lodge, the lodge itself has left a lot to be desired. Coming in for breakfast at 8:30am when breakfast started at 8am, there were no tomatoes, no bacon, and no french toast. Two of those items supplied half of their entire menu. We basically paid full price for substitutions. I was afraid to ask for anything else due to their lack of items on the menu, as well as the employees attitudes. They seemed short, quick and not welcoming. I am not expecting them to hold my hand to my table, but it'd be nice if they showed even just a little bit of hospitality. It's understandable that this is a campground, but places like The Big Sur Lodge should be a nice experience for those tired and exhausted from hiking, camping and cooking on their own. What I found here was nothing of the sort. If anything, it was a slight headache. The food as well was very underwhelming for the price we paid for. We got an avocado toast that ended up just being eggs on toast. And it wasn't even good. Barely any avocado. I felt like I could've had a better breakfast experience at my campsite, but I hoped that wouldn't have been the case. The whole point of coming to a place to eat like the Lodge is so you can still get a good experience away from your camp. I'm almost ashamed I even left a tip. read more

Both the eggs and bacon were overcooked and I didn't get the fruit that was supposed to come with it. We had a great experience here because Kristy was our server. She made the dining experience flawless, my husband had some very strange requests for things that weren't on the menu and she genuinely tried to figure out how to make it happen. We ended up just genuinely enjoying being around her because she brought a refreshing energy and truly finds joy in what she does. The food is also unbelievable and Kristy even got a peanut butter lover cake for me from the freezer because I was so excited to try it and we're leaving tomorrow. In fact, I've saved that peanut butter cake until this very moment. I'll snap a picture of the cake before I devour it. Everything on the menu is delicious, I had the salmon salad and I pretty much inhaled it, my body craved its nourishment. Salmon cooked perfectly with a nice crisp to the outside and even a slight brown. The crunchiness of the salmon with the succulence of the apples the texture of the cashews, you almost forget you're eating a salad. I don't care if it's healthy or not because my entire being felt better after eating it. Anyway, I'm gonna eat this cake. This is located back of the lodge. They have outside patio for dog friendly. I didn't know there was stairs on the side going to the patio. I carried my dog in to go to patio. Food/Taste/Flavor: 3/5 - appetizer wing came with 5 wings only but the flavoring of the lemon pepper was strong and cooked well. Pleasantly surprised about the Big Sur Lodge Restaurant. They have lots of excellent souvenir items. Did not get a chance to try the food, but the ice cream is amazing. Great selection at a price that will not break the bank. The seating area provides lots of rustic, backwoods comfort too. We couldn't wait to return for the Beignets! We visited about a year ago and had a nice lunch with Beignets for dessert. We drove back the next day just to enjoy them again (we were staying in Pacific Grove). The waitress on day 1 made me a vanilla almond milk steamer. On day 2 the waitress learned from the first and made it again! It was delicious with the Beignets. This time we were staying in Big Sur at the Ripplewood. After dinner we ordered the Beignets and asked if waitress could make a vanilla steamer. She then said "you like it with almond milk right- now I remember you from last time!" How amazing is Kristy?!???!!!!! We really enjoyed her as our server twice (well 3 if you count that visit a year ago)! She stoked the fire with love and made the dining room cozy! If you come here have the Thai shrimp lettuce cups and the curry was delicious. And of course ask for Kristy and have the beignets with almond milk vanilla steamer! Only giving 4 stars as the soup was lukewarm and they tend to run out of menu items. This time it was the brisket...last time it was the soup and something else we wanted. Checking into the lodge we received a voucher for being eco friendly -no housekeeping for the duration of our stay to reduce footprint :) the voucher was for scoop of ice cream... When redeeming it, staff was super friendly and have more than a dinky sized scoop... It was basically a cup full of dreyers ice cream! Made the night just great ending with fav flavors... In fact I could not search because cell signal is next to none in these parts. So reluctantly, I agreed to try Big Sur Lodge Restaurant. The dining room was nice... but I had my trusty dog Kwazii with me so I had to eat in the outdoor patio area. That is after I ordered at the counter. Yes, on weekdays there is no table service. Unhappy, I moisyed up to the counter and ordered my food. It was a balmy evening in Big Sur. The patio was surprisingly quaint and well appointed. As I sat down we were served by the bartender/waiter and it was at this point that my evening changed. A super friendly guy that did it all. He served drinks, brought us our food, and bused tables. He brought us our drinks and food in no time and as busy as he was found time to shoot the breeze with us. When the food came,. I was expecting overpriced small portion hotel food but ended up with a meal fit for a hungry camper that I was and better yet it was surprisingly good. I had the Porkie, a ginormous double wagyu, cheddar, bacon and bbq pull pork sandwich with a good portion of french fries. It hit the spot. I had also ordered their Chili Soup. Well as large as the Porkie was, the chilli soup matched its size ounce for ounce. Both were excellent; I was satisfied! In fact I was so satisfied that instead of looking for another eatery the next evening we came back to Big Sur Lodge Restaurant and to our favorite bartender and had another meal. This time I had their Cajun Shrimp Tacos. Tacos were made with large tortillas filled with shrimp tomatoes and veggies; another hit! Next time? After hiking inside the Pfeiffer Redwood State Park, you really wouldn't feel like going out to find a restaurant. The only choice presents itself is the Lodge Restaurant next to the Lodge. I can't really recommend the food except to say that the service was nice and the seating was great(in the woods). We ordered the Steak Gyro and the Pineapple Trout. This restaurant has a lot of potential. We stayed for three days in one of the cabins and mostly ate our own food. We had a 20% off deal for one meal and decided to use it the last night for a take-out dinner back in our room-to be picked up after watching sunset. Placed the order with a server who said she had worked there for years. Ordered a bison burger with side salad instead of fries and pork tacos for 7:15 pick up. Paid. Easy? Right? Not? Note: the restaurant was mostly empty our entire three days. Get back at 7:15. Order not ready. They had completely forgot. Took about 35 minutes for them to make--making our planning a mute point. They did give us a complimentary glass of wine for the error. Get to our room with the order. Fries instead of the salad. Ugh. The bison burger was very good, however. I recommend. The pork tacos were ok. The fries were caloric. Alas we ate them. Food prices here are high, even with 20% off. The actual restaurant inside the main lodge is nice and has a big outdoor patio. We both agreed the bison burger was very good and just have to chuckle about trying to pre-order with a salad side. Big Sur is gorgeous. read more

This restaurant is the most reasonably priced in the area, but our food at our campsite that we made other nights was soooooo much better. We ordered our burgers medium. They were charred. Everything costs extra (cheese on the burger was $2.50, same with switching to grilled onions). The shrimp scampi was more of a cheese sauce which was pretty gross. Cheese does not go with seafood. Went here for breakfast and were some of the first people in. The ambiance was cool, very woodsy chic. Our waiter was a jokester and prompt. My breakfast was scrambled eggs, veggie sausage, hashbrowns, and sourdough toast. It came out rather quickly and was very filling! I've been here enough times and during holidays to now rate this place. Ok first off it's a lodge. With that said moving on. The servers here are awesome. Ours was Chris and he was very helpful and knowledgeable of the whole menu. Even was able to answer our questions of exactly what some ingredients we wanted to know. The chef obviously takes his job seriously and respectfully so. This is a very high traffic area and restaurant. They take care of their customers here without a doubt. They've got a good selections as well. Things I've had here are as follows. Halibut Mash potatoes Crab Artichoke dip Burger Fries Halibut was cooked and seasoned very well. Not over cooked at all. THANK YOU! Mash potatoes. Can never go wrong with mash potatoes. Crab artichoke dip. Large pieces of crab are very present and it's great! Could use a bit kore artichoke though. And maybe a little bit of spinach for color and taste:) Burger. Can't go wrong with their burgers. Seasoned well not over cooked and fresh ingredients. Fries. Mmmm fried potatoes. You know here's the crazy thing. I've been coming to Big Sur for over 30 years. And this place wasn't my go to EVER. In the last 10 years it has gotten A LOT better. Not only in the restaurant but the lodging as well. I highly recommend this place for a quick bite. As long as your ok with the lodge ambience and atmosphere. 8/8/20 I really was not expecting much. We actually stayed the night at the inn, and though nothing was wrong, nothing was perfectly right either. And my gf LOVES weekends trips, so we do little vacays to Monterey, Napa, and Big Sur quite often, so we know the drill... and you probably do too... ...but in case, no there's no fast food whatsoever for an hour in either direction. So, a hike or two later in the Northern area of Big Sur, we were starving, and the only choices we passed we've been to, mostly CRAPPY crap. ....then we're like, maybe come back here?... 1. Pulled Pork Sandwich $13 "slow braised bbq pulled pork, apple slaw served on chibatta bread": Well hell, waddya know, the pork was chunky and luscious, not the typical stringy crap people call "pulled pork." Light on sauce, and heavy on natural porkiness. You know, I think I actually liked this pulled pork sandwich better than 90% of legit BBQ places! 9/10 2. Grilled Chicken $14 "grilled chicken breast, white cheddar, lettuce, tomato, applewood smoked bacon, chipotle aioli served on ciabatta bread": Okay, yeah, so the chicken was dry. Not choking hazard dry, but definitely far suboptimal. For our first full day in Big Sur, we were craving a hearty breakfast and since our motel doesn't serve breakfast, we drove down the road to the Big Sur Lodge. I think the staff were a bit surprised that we were there as they were opening right at 8 am, but we were seated fairly quickly once they got things situated. I'm a sucker for Eggs Benedict, so naturally I opted for the Traditional Eggs Benedict as soon as I saw it. It definitely did not disappoint and the portions are quite large (especially the hashbrowns, which you can never have too much of), which does help things a bit since their entree prices seem a bit higher here than other eateries in the area. If you're looking for a solid, hefty breakfast, the Big Sur Lodge Restaurant definitely has a few good options that might appease your appetite. read more

It sounds like a great idea but the way the patio was designed, every time someone stepped, moved, shifted in their chair etc, our seats/table literally rocked a little. The $33 Salmon was overcooked and under seasoned and LAID UPON A PILE OF SPAGHETTI COVERED IN SOY SAUCE. For the love of all humanity, please do not eat here. I've never been more distraught by a meal. One star because the waiter was nice otherwise shame on the person in charge here ripping off tourists.
