I guess you can say that I am as much of a regular as I can be, considering I live 2 1/2 hours away. I can't get enough of this restaurant! Between the amazing people who have become friends over the years to great home cooked meals and atmosphere (the ocean is practically across the road), I cannot get enough of this place! This trip I took a longtime friend with me and although it's been two days since we were there, she's still saying how impressed she was. She was absolutely floored that they use real butter and the portions were huge. In fact the portions were so big that I couldn't even finish half of my food! And I was HUNGRY! LOL Maura and her brother (which I apologize I can't remember his name) both helped us. Maura sat us and we spoke for a quick minute, and her amazing brother served us. I can't believe it don't recall his name! But everyone there is AWESOME! I was tempted to get the super fresh salad, but decided instead on the clam chowder (as did Alicia), and the salmon was perfectly cooked. The veggies were so fresh and flavorful and the rice was exceptionally fluffy and seasoned perfectly. Not to mention the garlic toast was next level. I can't wait to get back over there! Their blueberry pancakes are calling my name! Trust me, if you want a good old fashioned stick to your bones diner, this place right here checks all the boxes! Love the convenience of this restaurant across Glen oaks where we got complimentary donuts and coffee/tea for being hotel guests. And the beautiful interior giving cabin vibes plus a warm cozy fireplace. Lots of indoor and outdoor seating and clean restrooms. Loved sitting by the big windows looking at the trees. Came in for breakfast. Cute little spot to fall upon as the other place we were going to go to was closed. They have a small parking area.They have a small menu and they only serve breakfast until 11:20 and then at 11:30 it is lunch. We got in right before breakfast ended and got the roadhouse breakfast. There is seating inside and seating outside. It is very pretty. They have lodging at the same location as well. It was clean and quaint. The food was good, a little on the small side for the price but it was all good. The staff was very nice but very firm on the end and start times of breakfast and lunch. Found this little place on our way back from a hike. Both my daughter and I had a Caesar salad & a beet salad with chicken. The fries were to die for! A glass of wine and a lemonade. The staff was friendly and loved the place itself. There's a live edge table in back looking over the trees with a stream below. Fantastic find in Big Sur! This is one of the best restaurant locations in this whole area. It is a beautifully appointed restaurant order at the counter. They'll bring it to your table but you need to sit outside on the back patio. It has an amazing view of the forest and the river running below birds everywhere. It is just a delight to sit out there and eat. They serve breakfast and lunch only. There's also a front patio that is also nice but to get the true ambience I think you need to sit in the back and you can see the pictures of how beautiful this area is. Great food. Big Sur Roadhouse was an absolute GEM of a lunch spot! There is no cell phone service for awhile driving down the 1 to get there, but it's located conveniently right off the main road that you won't miss it even if you didn't turn on your GPS before losing signal. Almost all surrounding areas were packed full of people, as I went around noon on a Saturday, but there were still ample parking and tables when I arrived. At first, the lack of crowd scared me but WOW was I pleasantly surprised. The food is absolutely amazing. I had the Roadhouse burger and ordered the side of fries. Both were DELECTABLE. Some of the best burger and fries I have ever had, and that's not an exaggeration. The wait was not long for food, the atmosphere is comfortable with gorgeous surrounding trees, and the staff were beyond friendly. When I'm in the area again next, I'm hands down stopping there again. I mean, I cannot rave enough of how amazing this restaurant is! read more

Ugh! I hate reviews like this. But... I have to keep it real. The family & I decided to have a little road trip & go to Big Sur. We tried going to Pfeiffer beach but, the parking lot was full so we decided to go get lunch. The hubs decided to go to Big Sur Roadhouse for food. We walked in & you have to place your order at the counter. We looked over the menu & the woman taking our order asked if my daughter wanted fries w/her chicken strips. I said, yes. I then ordered my burger & I was asked if I wanted fries w/my burger. I said, yes. The lady then said, "It's $3.00 extra for the swap." NO WHERE YOU ON THE MENU DOES IT SAY THIS. Also, why ask if you're going to charge extra? Sounds suspish to me. A sneaky way of getting extra $. I said, fine. We were really hungry & just wanted to get our food. Then, she rings up all our drinks. One 8oz Diet Coke is $4.00. What?!?! A bottle of Root beer is $4.50. My husband really liked his turkey sandwich. My daughter ate every bite of her chicken strips & fries. When I ordered my burger I was never asked if I wanted it rare, medium rare or well done. It was served well done. It honestly looked like one of those burger patties that come preformed & you just throw it on the grill. It was on the dry side. The fries were great but not worth the $3.50 (not $3.00 like I was told). I honestly do not think this place is worth the price. Our lunch today was not worth the $102.00 I paid. The setting of the place is gorgeous. The truck outside of it is very cool. But, the food prices are outrageous. The choice is yours but I will not be choosing Big Sur Roadhouse again. Look up the menu prices before going. Wish I had! Update: What?!?! I was looking over my review & I noticed a BIG mistake. The menu states that my burger was $17.00 (before the fries, bacon & cheese added). Now... the receipt states that the price of my burger was $30.50. How?!? $17.00 for the burger + $3.50 for the fries instead of salad = $20.50. Now add $3.50 for the bacon to the $20.50 = $24.00. Now add another $3.50 for the cheese to be added to the burger = $27.50. How did they come up with $30.50. That's a $3.00 difference. What a rip off!! I originally gave this place 3 stars. I am changing it to two. I hope the owner sees this & realizes I was over charged. 1st, nothing on the menu states they charge more for switching a salad to fries & now... I was over charged. This place is wonderful! Went here to visit after driving along the coast. They were the only ones open at the time and seemed like a wonderful place to stop at. The staff were welcoming and very friendly and I felt at ease. The food was incredible and had multiple options, including gluten free bread! The atmosphere at this restaurant was really warm and cozy, along with the views being beautiful. My whole family really enjoyed their meals. I highly recommend! read more

I liked the ambiance at this place, the windows with views, the outdoor area  with shades, the fireplace, couches, and general cleanliness and vibe. We had just backpacked 9 miles from Sykes Camp and were so looking forward to a restaurant lunch.  Honestly, our bar was low and was easy to satisfy. I ordered a Roadhouse burger with side salad and a Kombucha drink.  The burger was standard, the salad had more than just leaves so that was welcomed.  Kombucha was also just par. The handmade coffee was pretty good (shoutout to the non-dairy drinkers, they have soy, oat, and almond milk) and they came in the cute matching mugs and plates. The huevoes rancheros stole the show. They were so savory, the perfect size with the savory potatoes - they gave my moms recipe a run for their money. The decor is a vibe, the atmosphere is cozy, the food was so good... plus they have free wifi so they get bonus points. Was seated by the lovely fireplace that really adds a nice touch to this quaint restaurant. The menu has your basic American Restaurant choices. I tried the burger with fries and it was really good. I also tried a Cali Squeeze beer recommend by the server and the beer choice/burger was spot on! The service is perfect here, the server consistently checked on me. Big Sur Roadhouse is one of my favorite gems I found during my stay in the area. It's located onsite the Glen Oaks Lodge, which is what brought me in the doors. Its mid-mod design and friendly staff brought me back. I came in initially for the complimentary coffee and donut that's included in the stay at Glen Oaks. I realized I probably needed more sustenance than that for a day of hiking, so I ordered the breakfast sandwich and a macchiato. The macchiato was perfect, and I love that they have the proper mugs for this drink. The breakfast sandwich took a while to come out but it was delicious and I was so glad I didn't miss it. The maple butter really elevates it to another level. I also had the glazed coconut donut, which was divine with the coffee. The ambiance here is cozy mountain meets mid century modern. Some of the furniture here had my collectors heart skipping a beat. They renovated 9 years ago and did an excellent job. The tables are original, and I love that they kept this piece of the past that fits so well in the new aesthetic. Come for the vibes. Stopped here and were ravenous! A cute place. We sat on the back patio which was very nice. Service was friendly and did their best to get around to all the tables. We had great chips (house made) and salsa (ok). The green salad was the surprise hit. Lots of fresh veggies and cheese with a simple dressing. Outdoor seating with a Mountain View was very nice. If you are worried about the lack of services coming down the one this was a great food destination with an attached market and Big Sur gift shop attached. First time here, but we've always stayed nearby. By the time we're back in our campsite, this place is closed. On our last day, we decided to go here for breakfast. Order at the counter, receive a number and they will bring your food out to you. They will serve your drinks at the counter. There's a condiment station inside next to the water station. The breakfast menu is small and we were hiking around and hungry, so we ordered a Roadhouse Scramble (eggs, bacon, potatoes, English muffin, fruit) with our lattes. There's indoor and outdoor seating available. We decided to go sit outside facing the river. When you're done, you can bus your plates and at the garbage can. It's worth checking out for drinks on our next visit. I can imagine how pretty it is with the lights on the deck. It's taking the trail back where I hope I don't trip and fall down the hill back to the campsite! read more

This place is a decent choice considering the available dining options in the area. During our stay at the hotel across the street, my fiancé and I decided to give this roadhouse a try. We ordered a breakfast burrito, an egg and bacon dish, along with a couple of coffees. We were treated to complimentary donuts, a nice little bonus for guests from the hotel across the street. The food itself was good, and the service was what you'd expect. The cuisine they offer is American, just like all the other restaurants in the area. I particularly enjoyed the inviting ambiance of the interior, complete with a functional fireplace - a welcome feature, especially since Big Sur's weather can turn chilly. While I can't recall the exact cost of our meal, I do remember that it was on the pricier side, which is the norm in Big Sur so that what to be expected. What a pleasant and unexpected surprise along highway 1 on our way to the parks. The little restaurant offers breakfast and lunch. I had a delicious grilled cheese that came with a very nice side salad with cherry tomatoes, matchstick carrots and cukes. We sat outdoors in a clean and pretty space. I really want to support local businesses. Unfortunately, twice I've arrived at this restaurant only to be told that they decided to close early. They let us stand in line looking at a menu, and when we got to the front of the line they said they'd decided to close early and the group in front of us was the last customer. It was 1:55. We started off outside which is really nice, but there were also birds hanging out by our table and we weren't sure if they would try to get our food, so we came inside! We were driving north, leaving Cambria on a Friday morning, and enjoying the scenery, and then it was lunch time in the Big Sur area. We kept passing other restaurants that had totally full parking lots and then happened upon the Big Sur Roadhouse. Seeing available parking, we stopped for lunch. It was a good choice as the restaurant has outdoor seating on both the front and back patios. The back patio has a great view of beautiful trees. The menu seemed limited, but what they had was good. My wife had the Pulled Pork Sandwich ($16) which includes fries. She always likes very well done fries and ordered them that way; they made them perfectly. She really enjoyed the pulled pork. I was only looking for something light and they had a fruit bowl ($8) that was perfect. The fruit was fresh and tasty with several varieties. We enjoyed our lunch here on the back patio with the beautiful trees. The bathrooms were clean (which is important on a long road trip). We will likely again stop here the next time we pass by around lunch time. read more

We went here for lunch . We ordered chicken strips, veggie burger, soda and a beer. Food:- the restaurant has standard menu so if you are looking for variety then go somewhere else. In chicken they had only 2 dishes :- salad wrap and chicken strips. Quantity :- Chicken strips were good but we only got 3-4 small strips in 1 plate. Veggie burger was below average. Nothing great in particular.. Customer service :- The person who took our order was very sweet. He even suggested me which beer to buy. Ambience:- the place is beautiful. It's quiet and gives a cozy feel. We sat near the fireplace outside on the patio and it was great. 3 stars for ambience and good customer service and average food. Remember :- they close around 3pm. By the time we were done they had closed the place and were not taking new customers. So check the closing time before coming. I wish they keep more items and increase the quantity. This restaurant was the cutest roadside retreat! Don't be deceived by the "Roadhouse" in the title- this place was very modern and well-maintained. I got the breakfast burrito which came with tortilla chips and orange slices. The burrito was pretty big, and the overall portion size was perfect- not too big. It was just enough to get full, but not so much that I felt sluggish. Note that dogs are only allowed on their outdoor patio. read more
