Wanted a nice meal that would be a contrast to the hiking shoes and forest roadside diner. The view was amazing, our day was filled with the marine layer/clouds so it felt like we were dining above the clouds. Prefix lunch was plenty enough to eat without the additional appetizer. The drinks are nice and all the food is served family style. Between the salmon, lion's mane mushroom, and steak, my favorite was the mushroom. The steak was a bit more cooked than the medium rare requested. There's indoor and outdoor dining. The weather was nice enough to eat outside too. If you wanted, there are shades that can be pulled down to cover the floor to ceiling windows. You can also walk out into their small balconies to enjoy the view. The staff is very friendly and made us feel welcomed. Valet is complimentary, but there's quite a few stairs to climb from the valet to the restaurant. There are electric vehicle charging as well. The highlights for me were honestly the abalone, the chicken and the chocolate cake dessert. The abalone felt very comforting and hit a core memory. Chicken was well balanced with the sauce pairings and not dry. the chocolate was rich, but not overly sweet. Was greeted by a man that said we had to wait outside (parking lot) or garden down a steep hill ( not a garden , just grass and I was wearing heels so that was not going to work) and were not able to enter the restaurant until exactly our reservation time, not a second sooner. What can I say! I love the view and the food was average, but it could be better. Me and friend booked a table at 7:45pm for a dinner and we came early around 7:10pm. However, we had to wait until 8:30pm for my table to be ready which was 45m past my reservation. Not even an apologize from the receptionist, we were just waiting and hopelessly waiting outside and it's getting cold and colder. Finally got our table at 8:30pm and they put us in a right next to the door when people walking in and out the balcony to check the view. Feeling we were in a Zoo not a fancy restaurant lol 2.5 hours from where we live to get there, the experience was the worse than I ever had. Food came out around 9:15pm and we just wanted to finish it and drove back as soon as possible (which took me another 2.5 hours) $185/ person plus tax and tips. Food was average. Service at the table was okay If you're thinking about looking this place for a special occasion, please save your money, time and energy for better options out there. We started with a fresh, beautiful salad course that was plated like art. For our mains, we split the burger and the steak. Both were excellent; the steak was cooked perfectly and served with a delicious green sauce and grilled lemon that really brightened the dish. ​The wine pairing was completely worth it and elevated the meal. What really sealed the deal was the service--Roman is a gem. He was attentive, knowledgeable, and made us feel so welcome. I visited the restaurant at Post Ranch Inn for lunch on November 15, 2025. The view was stunning and the food was very good, and under normal circumstances I would have happily recommended this place. Unfortunately, the way the restaurant handled payment completely ruined the experience for me. Because of a power outage, the staff said they could not use the POS terminal. Instead, they asked me to write my full name, full credit card number and CVV on the back of a receipt so they could process the charge later. I specifically asked if this was safe, and was told it was, so I reluctantly did it. After I left, I received a voicemail from the restaurant manager and messages through OpenTable saying they "still need your credit card information" and asking me to call back and leave my card details with the hostess. The wording and tone made me feel as if I had not paid or was trying to avoid paying, even though I had already written down my full card number and CVV for them. I was traveling and on a flight, so I couldn't respond immediately, but when I landed I called back, provided the expiration date, and also expressed how uncomfortable and upset I felt about the whole situation. I fully understand that the restaurant should be paid for the meal. My issue is how my card information was collected and how I was treated afterwards. Writing full card details (including CVV) on the back of a receipt and then repeatedly calling and messaging for more "credit card information" feels extremely unsafe and unprofessional, especially for a property at this level. Because of this, I cannot recommend this restaurant despite the beautiful setting and good food. read more

We came here on a weekend away from the city. Big Sur is like a dream land and that extends to Sierra Mar. The atmosphere of the restaurant made me feel like I was floating in water. We got the tasting menu. I thought it was paced really well and that there was a wide variety with seafood and vegetables. Felt like there was a nod to Asian tastes with the cooked abalone. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because they forgot we were celebrating our anniversary, even though we put it in the reservations. The two "medium rare" steaks were cooked well done, and rare. My fiancé's "medium-well" steak was cooked well-done. The salmon was cooked perfectly though. Service was friendly and they changed utensils/cleaned crumbs between courses, but it felt slow when the restaurant was only at half-capacity. Menu curation was a bit odd - we had Mediterranean starters paired with entrees choices focused on Mexican garnishes, or a burger. I could understand eating here if you're staying onsite for ease of access, but I wouldn't recommend making a stop here otherwise. We had reservations for 5:30pm so we were able to watch the sunset from our table. I'm sure the views during the lunch hours are just as beautiful, but I opted for dinner since the menu caught my eye more. Once you arrive and drop off your car at valet, you enter the reception area of the hotel and they let you know to walk up the stairs and out to the patio area. You'll then climb a few flights of short stairs and once at the top, you'll see the sign for Sierra Mar. // COCKTAILS ($27) // Aster: Blackberry, mint infused Tito's vodka, lemon, mint syrup. It was on the lighter side with no real hints of blackberry and the mint was very tame. 1/5 Coastline: Bixby gin, chareau aloe liqueur, lemon, fennel syrup. I'm typically not a fan of gin, but thought this cocktail was well balanced and was delicious. 4/5 // FOOD // 3 course meal is $145 plus any additional items at a supplemental cost Ad Astra Bread: Sourdough, olive oil, aged balsamic vinegar. The sourdough is from Ad Astra which is a pretty popular bakery located in Monterey. The sourdough was good, but not memorable. 3/5 Course 1 Stone Fruit + Heirloom Cherry Tomatoes: Burrata, aged balsamic, basil. The stone fruit was nice and sweet and paired well with the slightly acidic tomatoes and smooth, creamy texture of the burrata. 3/5 Yellowfin Tuna (+$18 supplement): Ponzu, avocado, togarashi mayo, fried wonton. The ingredients and flavors all worked well together. The fried wonton strips added the much needed difference in texture. 4/5 Course 2 Roasted Maitake Mushroom: xo sauce, cashews, garden herbs. Absolutely amazing! I love Maitake mushrooms and they cooked this one perfectly and the sauce made it so rich and inviting. A must if it's on the menu when you dine here! 5/5 Chilled Monterey Abalone (+$30 supplement): brown butter gremolata, garden potatoes, parsley jus. I am a huge fan of abalone and this was the one dish that I was looking forward to the most. However, the abalone was tough, the flavors did not mesh well together, the potatoes brought nothing to the dish at all. Even without the supplemental cost, I would not order this at all! 0/5 Course 3 24oz Ribeye for Two (+$72 supplement): Twice baked potatoes, scallions, bacon, mushroom jus. The ribeye came out cooked perfectly to a medium rare for being a thick piece of steak. Each of us received two halves of the twice baked potatoes. Since the steak was so thick, I personally could have used a touch more salt and pepper on it, but maybe that is just my opinion. 3/5 Overall, I'm glad I came here to try Sierra Mar. The views are absolutely stunning - especially if you come for dinner and it's not too cloudy outside. On the other hand when it comes to the cocktails and food itself, I felt like it was mediocre. I recently visited Serra Mar at Post Ranch Inn for drinks and dinner. The ocean view is absolutely stunning and is easily the best part of the experience. The food was fine, but not exceptional. What is unacceptable is what happened at the end of the meal. After first presenting our original itemized bill and taking my card, our server, Tommy, added an additional 26% gratuity without disclosing it. He then brought back a non itemized receipt and verbally told me that tip was not included. That is intentionally misleading. When I reviewed the total and confronted him, he became visibly nervous and tried to move the conversation outside (so other guest didn't hear) instead of explaining the charge clearly in the restaurant. This is not a misunderstanding. It felt deliberate. I cannot help but wonder how many other guests this has happened to who did not carefully review their bill. At a property as expensive and well regarded as Post Ranch Inn, this kind of behavior is completely unacceptable. Transparency with billing is the bare minimum, especially when guests are already paying premium prices. read more

Both meals were Luke warm at best. We got the sides of asparagus with hollandaise sauce that had zero flavor. Also the twice baked potato which was simply a scoop of mashed potatoes with a touch of sour cream topped with chives & bacon. It was just ok too. This is a great place for special occasion, we have been here a few times and every time is unforgettable. What makes it so special and unique is the location of this restaurant and the breathtaking ocean view. Food and service is top of the line. They have a garden and some of the ingredients are from their own garden, and you can even visit the garden afterwards. There are also some walking trials in which you can exercise a bit after a heavy meal. This time we were given some oysters on the house, and they are so fresh. Wow wow wow. The views, the decor, the ambiance, the walk up... it was all breathtaking. One of the coolest, most beautiful restaurants I've ever been to. You sit above the clouds on the coast overlooking the ocean with huge glass windows and wood building around you. The staff was SO friendly and accommodating. The chefs garden harvest of various dips were so so good. We ended up getting a second because of how delicious it was. Everything on the menu felt top notch. Ordered the lions mane mushroom which really hit the spot on flavor, texture and portion. Definitely come here for lunch as you get the experience for almost half the price of the dinner. Once we approached the uniformed valet parking team, for a split second I thought we were underdressed (in our shorts and sandals). The ambiance of this place is second to none. Upon parking, we enjoyed a gorgeous walk up to the restaurant on the top of the cliff overseeing the Pacific Coast. The restaurant itself feels like you're dining in the clouds. Amazing views. With that said, the food was the highlight. We had the fixed 5 course and selected the steak and salmon for the main. From start to finish, it was delightful and healthy, expect for the bread and amazing desert. :-) Afterwards, we walked along a path grazing at the unique cottages and the ocean. We celebrated our 25th anniversary with dinner here and while I'm sure most people are celebrating something it would have been nice if this special occasion was acknowledged. I wish I had taken a photo of the menu as it was quickly snatched away and as my husband pointed out it looked "used". While I appreciate being eco conscious when you're paying top dollar for a nice meal, they should allow you to keep your menu to refer back to. The food portions were generous and the mushrooms were tasty but overall none of the dishes were memorable, I love halibut but this was a bit overcooked, same with the chicken. The view and uniqueness of the restaurant are what you come for. One added bonus was upon getting our car, a Tesla the valet had plugged it in while we were eating. At 4:27 pm (8/29), I called after receiving an email earlier in the morning about a reservation being available. The host who answered was dismissive, rude, and seemed visibly irritated just to speak with me. When I asked to book the reservation, she shut me down with a hard, unempathetic "no," without even giving the impression she checked or cared to try. What bothered me most was that once she realized I wasn't a registered guest, her tone became even colder--almost as if my time or interest had no value. My wife and I had dinner here back on October 21. The location is obviously special with its amazing views - but mother nature did serve up thick fog for that night . The architecture/ layout of the restaurant is warm and welcoming. The hostess and our waiter were fabulous. In fact, the valets were also so nice , and shared some history of the ranch regarding some of the photos and artifacts downstairs. Literally felt like we were eating at a diner if it wasn't for the snobby attitude of the hostess. The food was decent. Some temperature on the dishes didn't come out that great (a little on the cold side) probably why the bus boys kept asking to clear our plates when we were trying to have conversations as well as enjoy our pricey meal!!! Overall would I come back? Maybe for lunch but definitely not for dinner... way too pricey for the service. Which is unfortunate because the chef did do a good job at thoughtfully preparing a great meal. After our $600 dinner and our $200 bottle of wine , I would've liked to think that the meal was extraordinary but maybe like most things in Big Sur nowadays it's just average... (thanks tech bros). We would've enjoyed the ambiance a little more had we also not been rushed to get to our table, as we tried to sit on the balcony for a drink, but like I said that militant hostess was not having it. I wish we just ignored her but i never like to piss off my food servers... The design of the place was all metal and wood and what you really are paying for is the location. I highly recommend drinking at least one of each freshly pressed juice. The dinner here was ok. It brought me down a star for this only because the food wasn't as flavorful as I was anticipating. Amazing restaurant with a spectacular view! I mean it was breath taking! If it's your first time dining at Sierra Mar I recommend asking for an ocean view seating by the glass windows. They also have open balcony seats where you can get go outside to experience the beautiful ocean view and fresh air. For lunch we had the prefix menu. It's a farm to kitchen theme. The food was fresh and organic, packed with bursting flavors. Spending our anniversary here was so special. I can't get over how stunning the views were and how zen the ambience is.
