I unlock my storage and all dead rodents in my unit, rodent droppings and pee, my 50 boxes, rats and rodents chewed through and destroyed all my paperwork, my clothes, my shoes, rodent droppings all in my dishes, in my clothes and shoes, rodents chewed through my extra-strong moving boxes, and also chewed through all my toiletries. Entire management has never contacted me/come by to survey all my property damage, and COMPLETELY IGNORE THIS SITUATION AND ME. Noth facility manager and the office refuse to give me their insurance claim form to file claim to their insurance company for $2500. The facility manager anf staff engage in office gossip, and the staff goes out of its way to make clearing the unit very difficult. There is only one garbage bin for the entire facility, and the garbage and recycle bins stay locked. I have to drag trash from the back of the facility all the way to the front where the entrance is. I waste so much time dragging garbage to the garbage bin all the way in the front in 100-degree weather. All this rodent-droppings and pee exposes me to Hantavirus, and there is no air ventilation in the building. And after all this. Otay Mesa Self Storage has ignored all my property damage due to rodents getting in my unit, but had the nerve to send me a bill? The facility manager dismissed rodents as no big deal because he has rats in his apartment complex where he lives. THIS STORAGE FACILITY IS FALLING APART AND NOT WELL MSINTAINED AT ALL. ONLY ABOUT COLLECTING CASH. This storage unit also has VERY NASTY POLICIES to charge $200 for trash left because no garbage are near to discard trash, and also charge $250 if you leave the facility late. ABSOLUTELY AWFUL BUSINESS.

Now that I am Yelping a lot I wanted to give my overall review about my time with Otay Self storage. i will give the pros and cons and also some tips :) Hopefully the names are accurate its been a while. I was a customer for about 7-8 years. I signed my first lease when this was half the size and the 2nd half was all dirt. The manager at the time I think her name was Lydia was very nice and half the reason why i went with this location. The other half of my decision was location. If your looking for the closest storage unit near the border, this is it. You can walk to here in a good 10-15 mins fromn the border. I had a large prime storage unit right in front. I kept my SUV and several belongings in there. Since Lydia, I believe the next manager was Luis? and then Humberto. They were also very nice and i was sad to see Luis go, he was awesome. Here are the Pro's about this place - Extremely secure, never had anything stolen nor heard of anything being taken from this lot. They have several camera and overnight roaming security. It's so secure that if a cat gets in, it can set off the sensors. I've been there in the early am before they opened when security would come by and do a check for motion sensors. Both times it was a cat running around :) See my pic of one of the cat burglars :) Location - everyone says location is key -it is located in a corner sort of (It used to be a closed off road years ago, but since have opened it up to traffic. It is very close to the border. Staff - Turnover wasn't a big issue when I was there, they had mostly the same staff with just a few manager changes. All extremely friendly, even to the point when they were ready to close, I would call them from the freeway and they would stay open a few extra mins for me. Units - the units themselves were in great shape. Early arrival- Most employees were early arrivals in the morning, that helps people that need to go to work on time. Giveaways -people are always giving free stuff away to each other. I had several storage neighbors that gave me excess stuff they weren't using and also when they are moving out. I returned the favor and gave away furniture and some electronics when I moved out. Cons: Very few: Rodents, sorry its Otay and there are lots of open fields out here. That's a fact of life and nature, nothing Otay Storage has done wrong. The units themselves can get dusty and dirty over time, please keep that in mind when storing valuables. Cars can sometimes block your unit, it can be a pain to find them and tell them to move. Especially when you under time restraints. This applies to outdoor units. They had free Wi-Fi then it got abused so they took it away. Not sure if it's back on again. Tips: Get a ground level unit, it can get extremely hot in these units during the summer and the last thing you want to do is go with an upstairs storage unit. Buy covers for your mattress and valuables, it can get dusty and should keep the little rodents out. Overall treat the employees with respect and that is what you will get right back. I loved my time here and I was sad to go. if I ever need a unit again you got my business!
