This crab guards the entrance of the Rockport Beach, one of the finest beaches in Texas. Rockport is known for its seafood that they catch here. The blue crab is one of them! Rockport previously had another crab statue that was on top of a seafood restaurant. It lived there from the 1950's to about the 1970's when it fell into disrepair due to hurricane damage. However, in 2012, artist David Allgood unveiled a bigger better crab. Rockport is really into the arts, and this is a great example! It's across the street from a sculpture garden, and compliments the area nicely! Don't worry, this statue doesn't say anything about the disposition of people from Rockport, they're friendly! The funny thing about this crab is that it's a hermaphrodite. It is a male crab with female claws.

This coastal-themed gallery is in a nice little retail space, right across from the Winery on the Bay in the Rockport Arts District. They keep regular hours, but they also have a monthly Arts Walk that the Arts Council coordinates, and they stay open late, serve up some wine, beer and cheese, and show off their greatest works! I really enjoyed the nautical themed paintings, as well as the ones of the local Aransas County wildlife. They also do frames, which look really neat! The owner, Mike was super friendly, let the dog come on in too! The shop was super clean, well lit and fun to visit! Rockport has a reputation for being a funky arts town, and this gallery does a great job of representing!

A lot of smart committed people live here and dedicated their efforts to getting a new one built. This little town has become a snap shot of what a large part of the Texas Gulf Coast has always been. Ryoichi Suzuki's sculptures were such a wonderful surprise, and I'm so excited that Susie Black will be the featured artist at the festival in July! I'm so thrilled to now own this sunglass case. It's too beautiful to use! The student art display was another highlight--there was a piece on cats and another on dogs, and I adored both. The detail in each work was amazing. These young artists are incredibly talented. I can't wait to go back. I'm also including a video of the area and some of the beautiful murals that surround the art center, so you can see the whole area and get the whole experience. What a wonderful place to visit! There is also a gumbo competition! Rockport is known for its seafood- the gumbo here is heavenly. You can go to the competition, and get cups for a few bucks each and try them all. The live music is always on key- with different acts each night. It focuses on country music. There's also a midway, where you can ride the rides! Loopty-loops and Gravitrons abound! Yeehaw! The pirate crew is very engaging and get into character. The boarding process was very seamless and they provide instruction when entering and exiting the ship to keep everyone safe. The ship looks exactly like what you would expect a red pirate ship to look like. They have plenty of covered and open searing to choose from. There is an adult searing area but it does tend to fill up quickly. The ship has a bar and offers a variety of cocktails, drinks and snacks. They don't allow outside food onboard. They have a variety of activities planned for the kiddos to keep them entertained. My nephews particularly liked the treasure hunting portion where they weee able to collect hidden golden coins and other treasures like beaded necklaces throughout the ship. They also had swashbuckling, sword fighting and just the general banter to keep adults entertained. The kids all looked like they were having a blast and making new friends. We did see a few dolphins but definitely not as many as when on the dolphin cruise. There are times when the music is blasting pretty loud when you get a break from the stimulation from the interaction during activities. I wasn't sure what to expect but they did a great job keeping both adults and kids entertained through an engaging adventure. I would recommend this experience if you are in or around Port A.
